Chapter 551: Chapter 245: Giant Bone Tongue Fish

"Oh my, what’s happening here? Fresh White Pomfret as bait, it doesn’t like it?"

Lin Yang couldn’t help complaining a bit dejectedly, as it had just been the perfect opportunity but they hadn’t gotten a bite.

He adjusted his mood, suspecting that the quick reeling in earlier might have scared the fish.

With that thought, Lin Yang increased the speed of reeling, pulling the bait past the area where the giant bone tongue fish had just been.

While he was rapidly reeling in, from the drone’s camera, one could see a dark shadow rise from beneath the water, bursting open its mouth at the bait."

A good half of the White Pomfret, weighing over a pound, seemed like a mere snack to this big fellow—it made a ’puff’ sound and was sucked in completely, disappearing without a trace.

The next second, Lin Yang felt a sudden heavy pull on the rod, a description-defying enormous force transmitted to his hands through the gear.

"Got it this time!"

He instinctively shouted, as the fishing rod, under the force, bent dramatically. It jerked again and again, seemingly trying to pull him into the water from the boat.

This was the first real challenge he had faced since arriving in the Amazon.

Even though his fishing rod could handle a creature of up to 800 pounds, it still creaked under the immense pulling force, and Lin Yang was tightly tensed in his core.

Under the desperate flee and powerful exertions of this big fellow, even the drag setting, which was adjusted to the maximum, made crackling noises. The overwhelming force, just from the sound, was exhilarating and blood-pumping.

If it were anyone else, they might have been pulled into the water right then.

But now, it was Lin Yang standing on the boat, who had gotten used to handling big catches from previous battles; if handled well, winning the fight was just a matter of time.

"Brother Sun, ask Baom to start the motor to assist me in reeling and dragging the fish," Lin Yang, unfazed by the danger, gripped the fishing rod tightly while commanding his companion for assistance.

Sun Zheng quickly instructed Baom in critical moments. Soon, the motor was started, and the boat maneuvered while the other two guards gathered the temporary anchor.

The whole process was effortlessly completed in less than 20 seconds. By then, more than half of Lin Yang’s line had already been pulled out.

Feeling the boat begin to move, Lin Yang immediately commanded, "Turn the fishing boat, I need to retrieve as much line as possible, or else another sprint might empty the spool."

’Emptying the spool’ was a sensitive phrase.

It meant the fish was tough to handle; if all the stored line had been completely pulled out of the reel, there would be no leeway for the fish’s next exertion, only relying on the absolute strength of the rig, which could easily lead to snapping the line or losing the fish.

Experienced as he was, Lin Yang wouldn’t let an empty spool happen, especially with about 1/3 of the line still stored. He had already adjusted in advance to cope with it.

Sun Zheng, busily, relayed his commands to Baom.

This expert fisherman and hunter, having spent half his life on Black River, quickly steered the small boat in response, then followed the big fish’s line of force in a nearly vertical direction to move the boat forward.

The state of the fishing boat then resembled the figure-eight drag method in freshwater platform fishing, always maintaining the direction of the force exerted on the fishing rod perpendicular to the direction of the fish. This maximized the reduction of the impact of the fish’s force, allowing Lin Yang to retrieve the fishing line as quickly as possible.

After the direction was adjusted, Lin Yang felt the heavy resistance slightly decrease and tried reeling in, finding it much easier.

The clicking sound of the line being pulled ceased temporarily, finally escaping the state of losing ground and starting to recover line.

With Baom’s assistance, Lin Yang quickly retrieved most of the fishing line.

Seeing the spool fill back up, he knew that the first difficulty had been overcome.

With the line in the spool, coupled with the highly maneuverable fishing boat, the subsequent fish-fighting became a battle between stamina and will. Lin Yang maintained his grip on the fishing rod, continually depleting the giant fish’s energy reserves underwater.

And the huge bone tongue fish underwater also demonstrated remarkable stamina.

From 2:30 PM until past 4 PM, for nearly two hours, the big fish kept pulling the fishing boat back and forth in the deep water.

After two hours, the fish finally depleted most of its strength and couldn’t maintain its position in the water, slowly floating upwards.

"Oh wow, it’s so big! Is it about two and a half meters long? It’s not breaking records again, is it?"

"The thing we saw surfacing earlier to breathe through its mouth? Damn, they’re just nostrils and some surrounding tissue, the mouth is underneath. Could it swallow a person whole?"

"The colors on this fish are really beautiful, those red patterns are so unique, and those big scales look just like armor. It would be great if I could preserve a scale as a keepsake."

Though the fish had turned belly up, its weight meant it wasn’t entirely out of the water, and its vague, massive outline still excited everyone.

Looking at Lin Yang at this moment, his high-grade outdoor UV-protection suit was completely soaked through with sweat, and some areas had dried leaving visible salt stains.

Though he was utterly exhausted by this point, his eyes still sparkled with vigor.

"Huff, huff, huff..."

Seeing the big fish belly up, Lin Yang could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

He slowly placed the fishing rod down, gasping heavily. The long, intense battle with the fish made his throat and windpipe feel as if they were aflame.
