Chapter 548: Chapter 244: Red-tailed Catfish_2

On the fourth attempt, Lin Yang maintained a steady reeling speed. When he was about 10 meters away from the boat, the tip of the rod suddenly dipped down—he had hooked a fish!

"Got one."

Lin Yang called out, swiftly lifted his rod to set the hook, and then quickly reeled in the line.

However, the fish was not the giant bone tongue fish he was expecting. Its strength was mediocre, and Lin Yang brought it to the surface in one go, quickly subduing it.

When the fish was pulled in closer to his feet, Lin Yang glanced at his catch—it was a slightly larger, silver-white piranha.

He reached out with a fish controller, lifted the piranha, and showed it to the camera.

"Haha, does anyone recognize this?" Lin Yang asked his viewers.

"Wow, this fish looks a lot like Freshwater Whitebait, doesn’t it?"

"Freshwater Whitebait +1. We used to fish for it often a couple of years back. Steel hooks + chicken intestines make you unbeatable for catching this."

"This thing tastes pretty good. Just steam it with some garlic cloves, and it’s delicious. Plus, it’s not small—this one’s about a pound and a half...."

Seeing that many viewers recognized it, Lin Yang nodded, "You’re right, this is Freshwater Whitebait. If I’m not mistaken, this is probably the original breed of the domestic Freshwater Whitebait, with a similarity over 90%."

Who would’ve thought that going abroad to fish would actually lead to catching a breed of fish! I used meat on my artificial bait, and I suspect we’ll keep catching more. These creatures usually move in groups, so let’s keep at it!"

In the following hour, it turned out Lin Yang had guessed right.

Despite looking everywhere for the giant bone tongue fish and finding none, Lin Yang kept pulling up Freshwater Whitebait one after another.

The small ones weighed over a pound, and the big ones were two to three pounds. Lin Yang selectively kept only the biggest ones and released the rest back.

"Brother Sun, ask Baom if it’s rare to find giant bone tongue fish in this area? I feel like I’ve used up all my luck today." After being busy for over an hour, Lin Yang started to feel a bit discouraged.

Sun Zheng translated his question for Baom, who replied in Portuguese with a lengthy answer.

After a while, Sun Zheng explained, "Baom says the giant bone tongue fish have a large range and very low density. The chances of encountering them are not very high. Between the start of the dry season this year and now, in the fishing guide trips he has led, they’ve only encountered them twice. All other times were failures!

Right now, it’s also slightly off-peak. If you’re tired, we could cook some food to fill our stomachs and rest a bit. There will be a window around two or three in the afternoon when the chances of catching fish will be slightly higher."

After being busy since the morning, Lin Yang was indeed tired. Since the guide suggested it, Lin Yang nodded: "Then let’s prepare lunch and rest for a bit!"

Having decided to take a break for lunch, he then said to the camera, "My good luck today might have all been used up by that big buck-toothed fish, so we haven’t encountered any giant bone tongue fish yet. I’m hungry, let’s prepare some lunch and rest, and let’s also taste the Silver Dragon Fish and Freshwater Whitebait we just caught."

"Eat up +1. It doesn’t matter if the fish aren’t biting; people still need to eat."

"Foodie soul in foodie body; all foodies are noble people, and I love to watch outdoor cooking live."

"Curious about how the locals cook in the wild. They don’t just light a fire and slap the fish on to char it, do they?"

Initially, Lin Yang thought announcing a cooking break might make viewers lose interest, but to his surprise, everyone was quite curious about how the locals cooked in the wild, keeping the discussion lively.

"Alright, since you all want to see it, let’s show more cooking methods as much as possible."

Lin Yang called out, relayed the viewers’ wishes to Sun Zheng, who then passed it on to Baom and the others.

Possibly feeling slightly embarrassed for not finding any giant bone tongue fish, Baom, who had become friends with Lin Yang, took the initiative to start cooking after Sun Zheng expressed their interest in live-streaming the cooking.

He directed one of the guards to gather a lot of dry wood, then took out the simple cooking utensils carried on the boat.

A six-person deep-bottomed camp pot along with two metal griddles that resembled stoves.

Three long wooden sticks were arranged to form a tripod for hanging the pot. A fire was started below, and the pot was suspended over it. Water carried on the boat was poured in to start boiling.

Meanwhile, the Silver Dragon Fish and Freshwater Whitebait from the live fish compartment were cleaned, cut into chunks, and added to the pot.

Baom also wandered around the nearby temporary campsite, picked a few types of unknown wild plant leaves, and added them to the pot along with some carried salt.

A large pot of fish soup was now ready, just waiting to boil.

On the other side, by the soup fire, Baom wrapped a whole White Pomfret in a large leaf, coated it with clay, and then placed it in the fire to cook.

The Silver Dragon Fish was simpler. A griddle was set up on one side of the fire. A bit of plant oil was poured on the griddle, then large chunks of the fish were skewered with sticks and fried on the griddle.

Besides the fish soup and these two types of fish dishes, the rest were pre-prepared items brought along.

A self-heating pot was filled with water, soon filling the air with the aroma of cooked rice. The boat also carried some vacuum-packed food, chicken feet, peanuts, cola, beer, and other items.

Lin Yang was not one to skimp, and since they would return to the camp in the afternoon, he naturally let himself eat and drink to his fill at noon.

In less than an hour, the meal for the group was ready.
