Chapter 256: Chapter 159: Bull Tail Fish_4
According to observations, these fish can climb trees. They often climb up the banks to suck the sap from the trees, and they can even crawl on the shore for over two hours without having to go back into the water.
Although the group was lucky to encounter climbing perch this trip, the reward Lin Yang unlocked afterwards wasn’t so fortunate, being just a small, ordinary reward.
After this little episode, the three of them quickly returned to the bed-and-breakfast hotel.
After resting for a while and changing their clothes, the service staff had already stewed a big pot of Seven-star fish and sugar corner fish with some condiments and other side dishes, and the three of them had another fabulous meal at noon.
After lunch and a brief rest, the three set off in the afternoon to tour the Cliff Stone Carving Hot Spring.
Visiting mountains and waters, appreciating cultural landscapes, coupled with soaking in hot springs, was simply delightful.
....
After resting for a night at the bed-and-breakfast hotel, the next day they continued to look for new fishing spots.
This time, they were going to drive to a place called Jiulong River.
While not considered one of the top rivers in Yunnan Province, similar to Mantis River from yesterday, Jiulong River is somewhat better known because of another feature, Jiulong Waterfall.
In the region where the Jiulong River flows, thousands of years of water erosion have created a series of ten distinct waterfalls.
The largest of these falls, measuring 112 meters in width and 56 meters in height, is magnificent and spectacular, known as Jiulong First Waterfall!
The Jiulong Waterfall Group, with each waterfall having its unique beauty, along with the distinct climate of all four seasons and the endless beautiful scenery, has made it known as ’Jiulong ten waterfalls, a unique spectacle in the southern country’.
Lin Yang and his party considered this area as the second fishing spot in the outskirts of Kunming.
It wasn’t long before the trio arrived at their destination.
The Jiulong ten waterfalls, true to their name, were a series of ten layered falls, with shallow shoals and deep pools between them, showing a thousand poses and colors, and presenting a dazzling array of beauty.
The white waterfalls like torn silk, the clear flowing water like green jade, the tiered terraces that cascade with the falls, winding down with the water - any angle offered a different and delightful surprise.
"Wow, it’s so beautiful, I didn’t expect such beauty in a not-so-famous place in Yunnan...." Seeing the beautiful scenery in front of her, Yue’er couldn’t help but express her amazement.
Indeed, such scenery, if placed elsewhere, would definitely be a very popular tourist spot, but in Yunnan, it’s not much talked about because there are just too many famous tourist destinations in Yunnan, even too many to count.
The three had just arrived and took a short rest.
Just at that moment, several girls wearing brightly colored, very beautiful Bouyei ethnic group costumes came walking over from the small bridge across the flowing water.
When they met Lin Yang and his companions head-on, the girls were not the least bit shy; instead, they sang and laughed, surrounding the trio, and started singing in their sweet voices.
While singing, the girls also danced gracefully.
Li Xiaopeng, scratching his forehead, looked at Lin Yang with confusion, "Cousin, what’s going on? Do they fancy you?"
Lin Yang shook his head, not knowing what was happening either. He didn’t have much research on the minority cultures in Yunnan.
However, Yue’er was smiling and explained, "This is part of their Bouyei tradition, a way of welcoming us. They’re treating us as their guests now."
Li Xiaopeng looked surprised, "Are they always this hospitable?"
"Not really, they’re not usually so enthusiastic, it’s just because these days happen to be their festival, the Singing Festival and Water Splashing Festival. During the festival, anyone who comes to their village will be warmly welcomed and in a while, they might even invite us to join their village for the celebrations."
After being surrounded by the girls and entertained with their singing and dancing for a while, indeed as Yue’er had said just a while ago, one of the girls spoke up.
"Three esteemed guests, welcome to our village. Tonight is our grand festival, there will be a bonfire party, along with antiphonal singing and water splashing activities. We’d love for you to join us!"
The three of them looked at each other, not expecting to run into such an event; they had merely come out to fish.
Before Lin Yang could speak, Li Xiaopeng hastily agreed, "Sure, we’ll stay. It’s perfect since we were fishing nearby during the day, and now we can celebrate the festival here in the evening."
After speaking, he squeezed Lin Yang’s eye and said, "Cousin, we just happened to have no place to stay for the night, so it’s perfect to lodge in their village."
Hearing this, Lin Yang nodded in agreement, thinking it was just to celebrate a festival and it should be fine.
But seeing that he agreed, Yue’er, who seemed to have something to say, hesitated and then stopped...
Shortly after,
the three of them were invited into the village by a few girls. There were many women in the village; Yue’er stayed to watch the culture of the Bouyei ethnic group and to chat with the villagers.
Lin Yang and Li Xiaopeng, after briefly exploring, grabbed their gear to go fishing.
Following the Jiulong Waterfall, with scenic beauty at every step, the two men walked and paused along the stream, ultimately choosing a picturesque spot that also seemed most likely for catching fish.
They simply set up their fishing spot.
Before long, they both started to catch fish after fish.
At first, they were mostly catching common fish like Tangjiao Fish, Crucian Carp, and Carp. Incredibly, Li Xiaopeng even caught a grass carp using earthworms as bait.
This made him exclaim, "Damn, the grass carps here must be starving to eat earthworms."
"Ha-ha, even though they’re called grass carps, they aren’t strictly herbivorous. Didn’t you hear the adults say when we were kids that using grasshoppers as bait is really effective for catching grass carps?"
"There’s such a thing?" Li Xiaopeng widened his eyes and actually went to the grass to catch a grasshopper and try it on the hook.
A short while later, he really did catch a fish using a grasshopper as bait.
But the fish on the line was not a grass carp, but a yellowish one, resembling a yellow bone fish.
"Is this a Gaya?"
Li Xiaopeng was unsure; the fish resembled a yellow bone fish but not quite.
Lin Yang leaned in for a closer look and was also taken aback, "Isn’t this a Bull Tail Fish? We just ate this a few days ago. Not bad, you’ve beaten me to it again."
He began to suspect it was the new float that made the difference.
Upon hearing him, Li Xiaopeng finally believed that he’d actually caught a Bull Tail Fish.
"Ha-ha-ha, it really is a Bull Tail Fish! How about that, cousin? I might not be as good as you overall, but I excel in certain aspects!"
"Are you better at bullshitting than me?"
Lin Yang shook his head; this kid sure liked to show off at every opportunity, but indeed, it was this trait that brought much joy to their fishing experience.
After a while,
he also hooked a fish on his line, and after pulling it ashore, it turned out to be a Bull Tail Fish as well.
He took the chance to check the pictorial rewards, finding only three mediocre prizes, which were rather uninteresting.
