Chapter 81: Chapter 81 For him, this was a great insult
If it was before, as soon as Zhou Lin’s gaze lingered on Cheng Zhiwei for more than three seconds, she would have immediately noticed and then looked up to give him a sweet smile, brighter than the sunshine.
With a deliberate eagerness to please and cautiousness.
But now...
Zhou Lin felt a wave of irritability in his chest, he had merely used Meng Qiancheng to threaten her a bit, and he hadn’t actually done anything to Meng Qiancheng, yet she bore a look of dejection.
Moreover, Meng Qiancheng wasn’t exactly a good person, was he really worth her acting like she was on the verge of death?
The more he thought like this, the less he could bear seeing Cheng Zhiwei like that, his thin lips pressed together tightly as he strode over, his footsteps echoing distinctly in the quiet living room.
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t even lift her eyes.
Ever since she recognized that she didn’t stand a chance of divorcing if Zhou Lin was not willing, her heart became as desolate as ashes, and she no longer wanted to struggle anymore.
Therefore, she obediently did whatever Zhou Lin wanted, but she didn’t care about it either.
Just like now, Zhou Lin picked her up without a word and placed her on a chair by the dining table, where she simply accepted it quietly and then started to eat with the aid of her chopsticks.
Zhou Lin said, "I’ve left your medicine with Wang Mei, if you want to take it, find her."
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t respond or even show any sign of having heard.
Zhou Lin "smack" slapped his chopsticks onto the table, his tone harsh, "Cheng Zhiwei, what exactly do you want?"
What do I want?
Cheng Zhiwei slowly chewed her food, she didn’t want anything, she just wanted to eat.
"Cheng Zhiwei." Zhou Lin suddenly stood up, his chair scraped back against his legs, making a grating noise.
Cheng Zhiwei raised her eyes to look at him, her beautiful eyes calm yet piercing.
Zhou Lin, looking down at her, took a deep breath to suppress the persistent irritation, his thin lips parted slightly, "Zhenzhen’s life has been ruined because of you and me. She is my only sister, and nobody really disciplined her when she was growing up. Even if she did something wrong, we shouldn’t just write her off completely. Is it not good to give her a chance to mend her ways?"
With a tone that seemed to take for granted, Cheng Zhiwei felt suffocated.
She put down her chopsticks, her eyes, clearly defined in black and white, began to fill with a sarcastic darkness, "Zhou Lin, she made a mistake and still has a chance to make amends. What about me, an innocent person who did nothing wrong, why should I be tormented and troubled by you at every turn?"
She lowered her gaze, her voice returning to calm, "You want to provide for them, that’s your own business, it has nothing to do with me. You don’t need to say these things to me, they sound pretty disgusting."
Zhou Lin’s eyes grew dark, his gaze from above carried a hint of coldness, "Disgusting?"
Cheng Zhiwei picked up her chopsticks again, eating slowly, "You’ve already made it clear through your actions that as long as you don’t agree, I should obediently stay here, waiting for your neglect, your torment, to be your and Seo Zhenzhen’s emotional punching bag. You could simply lift a finger and my friends, my family would be ruined, so rest assured, I’ll be obedient."
As soon as the words fell, her fingers clutching the chopsticks tightened, barely able to suppress the churning distress in her heart, "But Zhou Lin, don’t I even have the freedom to eat my meal in peace?"
Zhou Lin scoffed, his gaze dark as he stared at her, "You still see yourself as wronged, do you?"
"I’m not wronged, after all, everything turned out this way because I brought it upon myself."
It was her who was once blind, falling for such a man.
Zhou Lin didn’t seem to grasp the insinuations in Cheng Zhiwei’s words, and without saying anything else, he sat back down, lit a cigarette, and just watched silently as Cheng Zhiwei ate.
She ate very slowly, her fair and slender wrist rising slightly to push back the hair that had fallen to her ears, then picked up another chopstickful of the greens in front of her and ate methodically, her complexion still pale. Upon closer inspection, one could actually see the hint of dark circles under her eyes.
His mind inexplicably went to Zhang Yuanheng’s words that under persistent mental pressure, it was easy for one to break down.
He thought of the sleeping pills she was taking.
A stifling discomfort filled her chest.
By the time he realized it, he had already used his chopsticks to pick up a chicken leg and place it in her bowl, his voice carrying a hint of dissatisfaction, "Are you a rabbit that you only eat vegetables?"
He had noticed that her so-called eating consisted of only the white rice in her bowl and the plate of greens in front of her, and she hadn’t touched any of the other dishes on the table.
She was so thin; if Lin Yu saw her like this, he would blame him for not taking good care of her and make trouble for him.
Such a rationale was blatantly justifiable, and the more Zhou Lin looked at Cheng Zhiwei, the more he felt she was indeed too thin.
Zhou Lin picked up two more shrimps for her and half-extended them before pausing to think. He then put the shrimps on his own plate, peeled them personally, and only then placed them in Cheng Zhiwei’s bowl.
Cheng Zhiwei looked at the extra food in her bowl, her eyes swirling with emotions—there was no gratitude, nor was she moved by Zhou Lin’s care, only a sense of utter ridicule.
Ever since she fell for him, she had fantasized that one day he would tenderly offer her food and prompt her to eat more. Now that scene was actually playing out, but the only feeling she had was disgust.
After hurting her that way, now he put on a gentle facade, playing a game of give-and-take—did he think she would be grateful to him?
Without hesitation, she picked the chicken leg and the shrimps out of her bowl and placed them back on the plate before continuing to eat the white rice and vegetables.
Zhou Lin was displeased, with smoke churning in his throat, inexplicably feeling a scorching sensation.
He almost commanded, "Eat it."
"I can’t eat anymore," Cheng Zhiwei pushed around the rice in her bowl, not even lifting her head.
She truly had no appetite.
Zhou Lin exhaled a plume of smoke, merely looking at her with mockery, "Didn’t you just say you would be obedient? How come you can’t even meet such a small request?"
Cheng Zhiwei bit her lower lip; Wang Mei’s culinary skills were indeed remarkable, and the meals were always extremely delicious. It was just that she really had no appetite now, and even the mere sight of meat dishes was causing a physical sense of revulsion.
However, Zhou Lin sat with that gloating look of schadenfreude, and if she did not eat, he would find a reason to continue troubling the people around her, to torture her.
"I’ll eat," Cheng Zhiwei picked up the shrimp, slowly beginning to eat.
The fresh taste of the shrimp turned into a fishy taste as soon as it entered her mouth, rushing into her stomach, and the food she had just eaten immediately caused a gag reflex, reaching the back of her throat.
She clenched her teeth and endured, picking up the chicken leg, thinking that after eating this, Zhou Lin should be satisfied, right?
But after just one bite, she couldn’t hold back anymore, covering her mouth as she dashed into the washroom.
The sound of vomiting was continuous, and Zhou Lin’s hostility surged from its deepest recesses, challenging his nerves.
The food he had picked for her, touched only to be vomited out like this.
She really knew how to disgust him.
Cheng Zhiwei vomited until the world turned upside down, emptying everything from her stomach, with her eyes rimmed red and looking utterly miserable.
While patting her back, Wang Mei asked anxiously, "Young Madam, what made you vomit like this?"
"Water," Cheng Zhiwei managed to say with difficulty.
Wang Mei brought in a cup of hot water, and after Cheng Zhiwei took a few sips, she finally felt much better.
Leaning against the wall for a good while, Cheng Zhiwei finally managed to catch her breath, washed her face, and with Wang Mei’s support, walked out.
Zhou Lin was still outside, his complexion looking very unsightly; to him, this was a tremendous insult.
