Chapter 61: Chapter 61: The Belated Apology, She No Longer Needs It
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t return to Sparkling Sky City; she went to the Zhou family’s old house.
Zhou Chenyuan and his wife had returned from abroad today and had just arrived home an hour ago.
Wang Mei sat beside Cheng Zhiwei, glancing at her from time to time. For some reason, she felt today’s Cheng Zhiwei was exceptionally different.
She seemed much colder and even exuded a resolute ruthlessness.
Wang Mei had taken care of Cheng Zhiwei at Sparkling Sky City for three years and had always thought of her as extremely gentle, always speaking in a soft and delicate voice, her face always wearing a bit of a smile, brilliantly bright.
But now, she sat on one side, her tense profile as cold as ice and snow, bone-chilling.
Wang Mei suddenly felt uneasy.
Upon arriving at the Zhou family, Lin Yu happily talked with Cheng Zhiwei and gave her the gifts she had brought back.
"Mom," Cheng Zhiwei placed the box on the table, her hands braced on her knees, her tone serious, "Could you ask dad to help with my parents’ matter?"
Zhou Chenyuan was not too involved in affairs now, but the absolute authority and connections he had accumulated over the years were still there.
Lin Yu hurriedly comforted her, "Chenyuan has already contacted the school, and the school has promised to send someone to replace your parents and let them come back."
Cheng Zhiwei immediately breathed a sigh of relief, a long-missed relaxed smile appearing on her face, "Thank you."
"You child, there’s no need to thank within the family," Lin Yu affectionately patted her shoulder, fell silent for a few seconds, and still brought up that person, "Seo Zhenzhen has returned to the country, you and Ah Lin..."
"Yes, I came today to discuss this very matter; I have decided to divorce him," Cheng Zhiwei stated calmly.
She had not mentioned it before because she knew Lin Yu would not agree and might even try to force them together, but she had not expected Zhou Lin would refuse to divorce.
Now, with Lin Yu aware of Seo Zhenzhen’s return to the country and their marriage being in name only all along, Cheng Zhiwei thought Lin Yu wouldn’t want to see her and Zhou Lin become a bitterly unhappy couple.
So this time, she spoke out.
Lin Yu just gave a wry smile, "As expected, you’ve wanted to divorce for a long time."
Cheng Zhiwei’s voice choked with sobs, tears falling like rain, "I’m sorry, I really can’t hold on any longer."
She didn’t want to cry, but with someone who understood her, it was really hard to stay composed.
"The incident this time, it was Seo Zhenzhen who wrote the accusation letter, yet Zhou Lin still believed her, and even when I pleaded with him to speak up for me, he wouldn’t," Cheng Zhiwei said, covering her face, becoming emotional, "I really don’t want to continue any longer."
Lin Yu, feeling heartbroken, patted her back, "Zhiwei, don’t cry. Let me talk to Ah Lin."
Cheng Zhiwei knew Lin Yu was giving in, was endlessly grateful, her eyes rimmed red, looking very pitiful, "There’s one more thing I need to ask of you."
"Tell me."
Cheng Zhiwei’s expression grew colder, "I want Bai Zhuzhu to pay the price for what she’s done."
"You’re finally willing to be ruthless," Lin Yu said approvingly, feeling it was about time.
With Lin Yu’s assurance, Cheng Zhiwei’s mind finally cleared up a lot.
After having dinner and returning to Sparkling Sky City, seeing the brightly lit room, Cheng Zhiwei stood at the door for a while before walking inside.
In the living room, Zhou Lin was on the phone. Under the light, his handsome face still attracted attention as ever, a white shirt wrapping around his tall figure, his broad shoulders and long legs.
Cheng Zhiwei slightly lowered her eyes, not surprised that she had liked this man since she was young, after all, he had always been so good-looking.
Zhou Lin had seen Cheng Zhiwei and spoke quietly into the phone, "Got it," and then hung up.
"Cheng Zhiwei." He walked over.
Cheng Zhiwei took a step back and turned to go upstairs.
Zhou Lin: "..."
He took long strides, chased a few steps, and grabbed Cheng Zhiwei’s shoulder, "I’ve arranged a meeting with Zhang Yuanheng, we’re doing a follow-up check tomorrow to look at your throat."
Cheng Zhiwei looked up at him, unable to discern the emotions in his eyes against the light, she couldn’t be bothered to guess and simply raised her hand to break free from his hold, "Young President Zhou is so busy, there’s no need for you to trouble yourself with my affairs."
Her cold detachment sounded sarcastic to Zhou Lin’s ears.
He pursed his lips, staring into her eyes, and finally said, "Sorry, I misunderstood you before."
Cheng Zhiwei tugged at her lips, scorn gathering in her expression; the belated apology was something she no longer needed.
"Don’t follow me," Cheng Zhiwei said expressionlessly, pausing her steps before turning to look at him again, "You don’t need to do these things, after all, this time, I won’t let Bai Zhuzhu get away."
Cheng Zhiwei knew that his apologies and his kindness were purposeful, meant to make her let Bai Zhuzhu off the hook.
Otherwise, at this moment, he would definitely be by Seo Zhenzhen’s side, not here.
Cheng Zhiwei hastened her steps to the master bedroom’s door, then suddenly turned around and frowned impatiently at the man following her, "Why are you following me?"
Zhou Lin said indifferently, "We have the follow-up check in the morning, I’ll take you."
"I’m not going."
Zhou Lin just gave her a look and then returned to his room.
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t take this to heart; in fact, she had already agreed to go to the hospital for a re-examination with Meng Qiancheng tomorrow.
But these were not matters she needed to discuss with Zhou Lin.
So, early in the morning, when Zhou Lin was ready and came downstairs, he only saw Wang Mei tidying up the table. Upon seeing him, Wang Mei asked considerately, "Young Master, good morning, would you like breakfast?"
Zhou Lin glanced at the plates and porridge bowl on the table, "Where’s Cheng Zhiwei?"
"The Young Madam has gone to the hospital."
"Did she go by herself?"
"Doctor Meng came to pick her up," Wang Mei replied.
Zhou Lin’s face darkened, and he let out an ironic laugh; was she stupid? There was clearly something wrong with Meng Qiancheng, yet she still trusted him, even let him pick her up; did she take his words from last night as a breeze by her ear?
"Young Master?"
"Go ahead with your work, I’m not eating." Zhou Lin took his car keys and left.
Cheng Zhiwei underwent a thorough examination at the hospital, and Meng Qiancheng happily informed her that her throat had, indeed, improved a lot.
"I’m sorry, Weiwei, my mistake, I didn’t take comprehensive care of you." Meng Qiancheng blamed himself, "I’ve looked into it, it was a nurse who carelessly grabbed the wrong medicine while dispensing, that led to the persistent issues with your throat."
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t think too much of it; to her, it was the nurse’s fault, not Meng Qiancheng’s fault, and she didn’t blame him.
"Fortunately, we have Zhang Yuanheng," Meng Qiancheng smiled with relief, praising Zhang Yuanheng, "His medical skills are truly impressive, I don’t know how long it will take for me to reach his level."
"You’re so hardworking, it’s only a matter of time," Cheng Zhiwei encouraged Meng Qiancheng, "It’s just a question of time."
"Thank you for still being willing to trust me." Meng Qiancheng adjusted his glasses, poured a glass of water for Cheng Zhiwei, and was tender and considerate, "I heard that uncle and auntie have been reported, was it Bai Zhuzhu’s doing? Presumably Zhou Lin won’t bother, right?"
Cheng Zhiwei became somewhat lost in thought, slowly sipped the water, and then asked as if possessed by a whim, "Brother Qiancheng, Seo Zhenzhen has returned to the country, have you been in contact with her?"
