Chapter 55: Chapter 55 Everyone Knows You Like Him
Compensation?
Cheng Zhiwei looked at Seo Zhenzhen with a hint of irony, what had she done wrong three years ago?
Why should there be any compensation.
"I do not agree," Cheng Zhiwei coldly threw out four words.
If it had been her choice to scheme and become intimate with Zhou Lin, she should feel guilty, she should blame herself, perhaps even repent for it the rest of her life. But it was not done by her own volition.
So, when Seo Zhenzhen talked about compensation, Cheng Zhiwei did not acknowledge these two words.
Seo Zhenzhen hadn’t expected Cheng Zhiwei’s refusal to be so straightforward, she was stunned for a moment; her emotions visibly dropped. "Zhiwei, I have only one sister, and she has hurt you. I apologize to you, but what malicious thoughts does she have? She is just upset because I can’t stand up anymore."
Her gentlest tone tortured Cheng Zhiwei’s nerves.
In everyone’s words, she, Cheng Zhiwei, was the culprit, the root cause of all this.
Cheng Zhiwei bit her lip, her spine ramrod straight, not wanting to show too much disarray, her brows carrying a touch of self-mockery and a cold laugh, "She almost made me a mute. In your eyes, is that a small issue that can be forgiven? You have only one sister, and I have only one voice."
Seo Zhenzhen sighed helplessly, "I know this is really difficult for you, Zhiwei, but if she goes to prison, I will have no one else to rely on. How am I, a disabled person, supposed to live?"
This sentence was more effective than any other.
Cheng Shang’s eyebrows knotted tightly, his tone icy, "Cheng Zhiwei, you bear a great responsibility for the state of Zhenzhen’s legs. She has only one sister, and she needs to rely on her for care in the future. If you send her sister to prison, what will she do for the rest of her life?"
Cheng Zhiwei’s lips lifted in a cold smile. She cocked her head, and looked at Zhou Lin with irony, "Without Bai Zhuzhu, she is being taken care of very well now, isn’t she?"
Zhou Lin lifted his eyelids to look at her coldly.
Cheng Shang burst into anger, his palm slamming on the table so that the bowls and chopsticks on top trembled, "Cheng Zhiwei, why have you become so unreasonable? Have you forgotten that it’s your fault she ended up like this?"
The thorn that was already in her heart felt as if someone had pressed it in hard, causing a sharp pain.
She was truly tired of hearing these words, weary, and they filled her with sadness.
"Is it really my fault?" This time, she didn’t just silently endure, she bravely spoke up for herself, "Did I drag Zhou Lin into the room to be with me?"
Just how the two of them ended up in the same room, on the same bed, to this day there was no evidence. It was rumored that the surveillance cameras in the hotel were all broken that day, and no one saw anything.
After uttering that defense for herself, it seemed easier to continue. Cheng Zhiwei looked mockingly at Seo Zhenzhen, "Zhou Lin was your boyfriend, and you were supposed to be inseparable. Where were you all night long? What a coincidence, you appeared at the door the next day and just happened to open it to find us sleeping together?"
"Enough, Cheng Zhiwei." Zhou Lin’s fury was hard to suppress, all because Seo Zhenzhen’s emotions visibly crumbled under Cheng Zhiwei’s questioning.
If not for Zhou Lin supporting her, she would have almost fallen from the chair. "Cheng Zhiwei, are you implying that I orchestrated something between you and Zhou Lin? I like him so much, love him, do you think I would do such a thing?"
"So, what, you think it was me?" Cheng Zhiwei countered.
"Why couldn’t it be you? Everyone knows you liked him; maybe it was out of spite." Seo Zhenzhen stared at Cheng Zhiwei aggressively, "Now you’ve gotten your wish, haven’t you? You married him, didn’t you?"
Everyone knew that Cheng Zhiwei liked Zhou Lin, and naturally, Seo Zhenzhen knew as well, even, Cheng Zhiwei had shared so many secrets with her.
She hadn’t expected that these would become Seo Zhenzhen’s weapons to attack her now.
The relationship between the two of them was completely broken, not even the last shred of dignity was left.
Cheng Zhiwei said emotionlessly, "Is it a crime that I liked him? But your sister, she has to pay the price for what she has done."
"Fine, Zhiwei, I apologize, I shouldn’t have said those words." Seo Zhenzhen immediately changed her tone, apologizing with a wry smile, "Consider it me begging you, this time, let Zhuzhu go. I will take her and leave, never to appear before you again."
"What nonsense are you talking about." Zhou Lin chastised Seo Zhenzhen in a low, stern voice, which was more like panic and fear than scolding.
Seo Zhenzhen bowed her head, her eyes slightly reddened, "She’s the only sister I have, I must save her."
"Cheng Zhiwei." Cheng Shang stood with the authority of a family elder, staring severely at Cheng Zhiwei, "Withdraw the police report, say it was all a misunderstanding."
"Thank you, Uncle." Seo Zhenzhen said with tears of gratitude.
Cheng Zhiwei stubbornly stood her ground, "Why should I?"
"Because you married Zhou Lin and are now Young Madam Zhou, which was supposed to be Zhenzhen’s position," Cheng Shang enunciated each word with righteous indignation.
The color drained from Cheng Zhiwei’s face; she clenched her fingers, her delicate lashes trembling, tears hanging in the corners of her eyes.
The incident from three years ago and her marriage to Zhou Lin were like two huge mountains; anyone could throw a handful of dirt or pile on a stone, desperately pressing down on her.
"What if I refuse?" Cheng Zhiwei said through gritted teeth, her nerves tensed.
"Our Cheng family doesn’t have a daughter as ungrateful and disloyal as you," Cheng Shang said heavily.
"What are you talking about, old man," Guo Cuihua exclaimed in shock.
These weren’t words that could be said lightly.
Cheng Zhiwei’s vacant gaze slowly swept over everyone, wanting to laugh, but feeling a profound sense of desolation, wanting to cry but refusing to give in.
"Seo Zhenzhen, it’s almost twelve o’clock now, do you know that? Since you didn’t intend to sincerely share this meal, you shouldn’t have watched my mom busying herself for over an hour," Cheng Zhiwei expressed disgust toward Seo Zhenzhen for the first time, "Do you deserve to eat this food at this table?"
As her words fell, she yanked the tablecloth, the pots and pans clattering and shattering onto the floor.
The soups and liquids splashed onto everyone.
Especially for Seo Zhenzhen, who couldn’t stand up, her skirt was stained all over.
"Cheng Zhiwei," Cheng Shang bellowed, "have you lost your mind?"
Zhou Lin also frowned in disgust, a cold look in his eyes as he picked up Seo Zhenzhen, "Cheng Zhiwei, that’s enough."
Guo Cuihua grasped Cheng Zhiwei’s trembling hand, with a slightly different look in her eyes when she looked at Seo Zhenzhen, "Please leave, tomorrow, Old Cheng will give you an answer."
Seo Zhenzhen lowered her eyes, concealing the emotions within, "I’m sorry, Auntie, for the disturbance."
With a slight gesture, Zhou Lin carried her out without looking back.
Cheng Shang gave her a deep look, then walked to his room.
Cheng Zhiwei’s tears, which she had been holding back for a long time, suddenly came rushing out. She crouched on the floor, crying while gathering up the broken dishes. Her father, her husband, had all spoken up for Seo Zhenzhen.
