Chapter 454: Exploiting without Love
Chapter 454: Chapter 454: Exploiting without Love
Cheng Zhiwei had come to resign, having learned about her relationship with the Wen Family, she could no longer continue working here.
However, just after she had submitted her resignation letter, Wen Ya asked her to meet.
Cheng Zhiwei agreed.
The two met at a nearby cafe.
Wen Ya’s face lacked the shrewdness and competence of a strong woman, instead, it was marked with a gentle smile, "I truly didn’t expect that you would be my sister."
Clearly, Wen Ya knew about Cheng Zhiwei’s identity.
Cheng Zhiwei stirred her coffee. She disliked the Wen Family, but she couldn’t bring herself to hate Wen Ya, nor could she treat her with cold indifference, so she said with a bitter smile, "I didn’t expect it either."
Wen Ya didn’t talk about sisterly affection, but got straight to the point, "You want to resign?"
Cheng Zhiwei nodded, "Hmm, you know my identity, so you should also understand that I have no desire to acknowledge my ancestry or return to my roots."
Wen Ya tapped her fingers on the table, taking her time and contemplating for a moment before speaking, "Actually, I think what you’re doing isn’t great."
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t understand what was wrong.
"I don’t know what you’re thinking, but in my view, whether it’s one’s background or men, they are all a form of resource. Those resources are very useful. Only fools would throw them away for so-called self-respect, especially when there’s no love but still benefits to be gained," she said lightly.
Cheng Zhiwei heard such an opinion for the first time and stared at her in shock.
"You didn’t have a good time in Yucheng, and it’s the same in Sea City. Where do you plan to run off to next?" Wen Ya asked sharply and straightforwardly.
Cheng Zhiwei forced a smile.
"Besides, you have three children. Do you plan on wandering the world with them?" Wen Ya threw another sharp question. "Frequent moving is a great burden for the children. You love them so much, you must know that."
Of course, Cheng Zhiwei knew that the children could only get the best growth in a stable and healthy environment.
"Neither Zhou Lin nor my second uncle are good people, but it’s not worth giving up yourself for them. After all, if that’s the case, their wealth and power will always dominate over you, and you will always be in a position to bow down."
Cheng Zhiwei was lost in thought, knowing that Wen Ya was right.
But after all, the company belonged to the Wen Family, and it was simple for them to do whatever they wanted.
Wen Ya saw through her concerns and said with a detached smile, "If you want to stay, these are not issues. After all, neither my dad nor my second uncle can make decisions for the company."
Cheng Zhiwei reacted a beat slower, "What do you mean?"
"It means the company is not under their control. They may have some say, but that’s about it," Wen Ya said indifferently.
Cheng Zhiwei noticed that Wen Ya’s expression was a bit strange when she said this, a deep sorrow flashed in her eyes, and there seemed to be traces of tears.
"Are you... okay?" Cheng Zhiwei asked.
Wen Ya looked down to hide her emotions, and when she looked up again, she was still the strong woman. She took a sip of coffee and said lightly, "Think about what I said. If you really want to resign, pretend I never said anything."
She finished her coffee and left.
Cheng Zhiwei sat in the cafe alone for a long time, mulling over Wen Ya’s words.
Her emotions slowly settled.
It was then that Ding Kun rushed in, visibly relieved to see Cheng Zhiwei, "Sister."
His eyes were a bit red, and his voice lowered involuntarily, "I heard you’re resigning, is that true?"
He breathed more cautiously.
Cheng Zhiwei massaged her temples and before she could reply, she heard someone scoff nearby, "Ding Kun, if she resigns, won’t you become a bachelor commander again?"
It was someone who had heard about Cheng Zhiwei’s resignation and followed Ding Kun to see the spectacle.
Of course, not to laugh at Cheng Zhiwei, but at Ding Kun.
"Wasn’t it said that if Ding Kun can’t bring someone within three months, he has to leave the company? How many days are left in those three months?"
"There’s one week left. Even if you change people, it won’t be possible. In my opinion, it’s better to pack up and leave now."
The sneering continued.
Ding Kun clenched his fists, his shoulders trembling, but he didn’t beg Cheng Zhiwei to stay. Instead, he said softly, "I hope everything goes well for you in the future, sister."
Cheng Zhiwei observed him, then looked behind him. Bai Xue and her assistant were standing not far away, holding coffees.
She was wearing a hat and sunglasses; others didn’t recognize her, but Cheng Zhiwei recognized her at first glance.
She must have heard those mocking words aimed at Ding Kun, yet she was indifferent.
She let Ding Kun be humiliated.
And the so-called three-month deadline, she probably knew about it too.
Cheng Zhiwei truly disliked people who casually squandered others’ sincerity.
They deserved to be struck by lightning.
She sighed, "Who said I’m resigning?"
Ding Kun was caught off guard and startled, "Ah?"
The others fell silent.
Cheng Zhiwei patted Ding Kun on the shoulder, her voice not loud, but enough for everyone to hear, "What, you don’t want to be my agent anymore?"
Ding Kun jumped up excitedly, "Really? Sister, you’re not leaving?"
"Hmm, I’m not leaving," Cheng Zhiwei said with a smile, her eyes shining brightly.
Wen Ya was right; she couldn’t always evade; she needed to grow up, to stand up for herself.
So she was staying.
If she stayed, it meant she had to go to He Ye’s event. If the event was a success, it would be Ding Kun’s merit.
"That’s wonderful." Ding Kun’s laughter returned, and his eyes reddened again with happiness.
After his emotions stabilized, the two of them returned to the company together.
Meanwhile, in the office on the top floor.
Zhou Lin tilted his head to view the hot-off-the-phone video, Wen Ya’s calm voice was particularly clear in the spacious office.
"Whether it’s one’s background or men, they are all resources. Those resources are very useful. Only fools would discard them for so-called self-respect, especially when there’s no love but still benefits to be gained."
He looked up at someone, the corner of his lips curling with pleasure as he spoke, "You wouldn’t happen to be the one being used, would you?"
The man behind the desk had a cold look in his eyes and, without lifting his head, hit Zhou Lin right where it hurt.
"The same goes for you; she probably doesn’t love you that much either."
Zhou Lin was undeterred, "At least she’s still with me, within sight and touch. We also have three children. Not like you, out of sight, out of touch, and your son has run off with someone else."
The pencil in the man’s hands snapped, and he simply threw it away, his gaze sharp and his chin arrogantly raised, "Don’t push it. Do you even share the same bed?"
Zhou Lin touched his nose, finding the question somewhat embarrassing.
He decided to state his purpose for being there, "She’s your sister now, isn’t she? Give her another agent."
Ding Kun was too young.
His naivete made Zhou Lin jealous, especially when he called her ’sister’.
It was like poking a hole in his lung.
