Chapter 446: Who Shall Live? Who Shall Die?

Chapter 446: Chapter 446: Who Shall Live? Who Shall Die?

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t come yesterday, and the few newcomers had already been assigned to their respective agents.

Though Cheng Zhiwei wasn’t present, she was assigned too.

The director personally called in the person responsible for handling Cheng Zhiwei, intending to give a few instructions.

But the agent outright refused.

He scanned Cheng Zhiwei from head to toe with a look of disdain on his face, "I won’t represent someone with such a stained record and who lacks punctuality."

The director wanted to say more, but the man turned and walked away.

The director offered an awkward smile, "No problem, I’ll find you someone else."

But after asking around, no one was willing to take on Cheng Zhiwei, as her reputation wasn’t great in their eyes, and now that the Zhou Family in Yucheng had fallen, she had no prospects worth investing in.

Not every person needed a background, but what was the point of investing in someone without a background, who wore a hearing aid, and had a poor reputation?

The director was getting anxious, his gaze swept the list again, and finally he tentatively asked, "There’s a new agent here, if you don’t mind..."

"I don’t mind." Cheng Zhiwei deeply understood that her absence yesterday had already left a very negative impression.

So she wasn’t in any position to be picky.

The director called the person in for Cheng Zhiwei to meet.

He was a young boy, just over twenty, very youthful and vibrant.

"I can finally manage someone on my own?" he said, delighted.

"Ding Kun." The director introduced, "He’s a newcomer, but he’s quite capable."

"Okay." Cheng Zhiwei nodded, which was her way of showing agreement.

After signing the contract, Ding Kun was full of enthusiasm, "Sister, the company has a month-long training currently, and during this period the company will also allocate some resources for you, be mentally prepared."

"I understand." Cheng Zhiwei was aware of these things.

Ding Kun took her to the training room, then proceeded to secure some resources for Cheng Zhiwei.

Cheng Zhiwei quietly sat in the last row.

This was just routine training that everyone attended when there was a spare moment.

So there were quite a few people.

With many people came a lot of gossip.

Not long after Cheng Zhiwei sat down, she heard someone in front say, "I heard that Cheng Zhiwei came, but Brother Zhang refused her. Later, the director assigned her to Xiao Ding."

"Isn’t Xiao Ding in danger then?" the woman next to her said, "He’s young and handsome; I hope he doesn’t get ruined by an older woman."

"If he wasn’t a newbie, I am too. I’d love to be with him."

The group laughed at the lewd joke.

Cheng Zhiwei sat quietly, watching them scorn Ding Kun but then spreading rumors behind his back. She knew their capabilities.

As she pondered, someone else said, "But it seems Cheng Zhiwei is quite talented, she once collaborated with Director Wen Ya. If it wasn’t for the scandal later, she would have become famous."

"No matter how talented, it’s useless if her character is flawed. Netizens won’t buy it. And back then, she wasn’t a ’cripple’ yet."

"Right, what do we have to worry about a ’cripple’ for?"

Cheng Zhiwei touched her ear, Cripple?

She moved closer to them and asked coolly, "Who’s a ’cripple’?"

"Of course it’s Cheng..." someone reflexively began to answer but was cut off midway as a companion tugged their sleeve and silenced them.

Cheng Zhiwei watched their expressions, commenting lightly, "Seems you all like Ding Kun a lot, want to switch?"

"It was just a joke, nothing more," someone said with a dismissive tone, "Cheng Zhiwei, surely you can take a joke?"

Cheng Zhiwei was about to reply when a chilly voice from the front said, "What’s all the noise about, so annoying?"

They immediately shut up.

Cheng Zhiwei glanced forward and recognized the speaker as the one who during the interview had been said to be very strong.

She leaned back in her chair, choosing to remain quiet.

The people in the front whispered, "It’s Bai Xue."

"I heard she and Ding Kun are a couple, why didn’t she go to him?"

"Think about it, what can Ding Kun offer her? He has no resources."

"True."

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t know there was such a relationship between Ding Kun and Bai Xue. She raised an eyebrow, but it seemed the group was wary of Bai Xue and didn’t elaborate further.

After signing, Cheng Zhiwei left.

Unexpectedly, Bai Xue also came out together with her.

They met at the doorway, and while it was subtle, Cheng Zhiwei still felt Bai Xue’s gaze on her for a moment.

However, she said nothing, simply passing by.

Cheng Zhiwei paused as she saw Ding Kun approaching Bai Xue and exchange a few words; Bai Xue stepped back and walked away.

Ding Kun was visibly downcast.

But on seeing Cheng Zhiwei, he perked up a bit, speaking somewhat dejectedly, "Sorry, Sister. I went out and couldn’t get you any resources."

"It’s fine." Cheng Zhiwei didn’t mind and couldn’t help asking after remembering the gossip, "Are you and Bai Xue a couple?"

Ding Kun sighed and shook his head, "No, she... we broke up."

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t inquire further.

An hour later, Cheng Zhiwei received a call from Huo Xuan, his voice tense, "Something’s happened."

Cheng Zhiwei thought of Zhou Lin returning to Yucheng early in the morning and, despite usually being calm, she felt a jolt of fear.

"What happened?"

"Zhou Chenyan ran away and took Auntie Lin hostage. Zhiwei, come home immediately, don’t go out," Huo Xuan’s voice was strained.

"Alright." Cheng Zhiwei agreed promptly and left by car.

It was only after getting home that she remembered to call Ding Kun to inform him and apologize for not telling him straight away.

Ding Kun didn’t mind, "It’s okay, Sister. I’ll go get some resources for you again."

Cheng Zhiwei was on edge until Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing were safely home; only then did she relax.

And she called Huo Xuan again, asking what exactly had happened.

Huo Xuan explained everything.

It turns out Zhou Chenyan wasn’t just waiting around; it’s just that his desires were different from ordinary people, and he didn’t care about money or power.

What he cared about was Lin Yu, and her betrayal back then.

Somehow, he had convinced the police to agree to his release.

And the first thing he did upon getting out wasn’t to beat up Meng Qiancheng, that unfilial son, but to kidnap Lin Yu and intentionally take her to the seaside.

Meng Qiancheng caught up with them, seemingly determined to kill him.

Zhou Lin also arrived.

Zhou Chenyan made Lin Yu choose between Meng Qiancheng and Zhou Lin; only one could live.

He was willing to play this game.

"Zhou Lin, I knew you would come back."

He excitedly pinched Lin Yu’s chin, then looked back at the raging sea.

His expression was sinister and cruel.

He kissed the corner of Lin Yu’s lips, "Ah Yu, who do you want to live, who do you want to die?"
