Chapter 443: Chapter 443: The Child is Too Young, No Rush
Zhou Lin had cautiously tested the waters step by step and finally got his reward.
For the first time, with such clarity, they possessed each other.
Cheng Zhiwei lay on the pillow, her fingers too limp to lift, as her foggy brain slowly churned, her eyes, which were moist and bewildered, suddenly widened.
She remembered something important.
She tried to scramble up in a panic, but due to a sore back and weak limbs, she fell back down,
held tightly in Zhou Lin’s arms.
His hoarse voice, filled with a haunting sexiness, whispered in her ear, "What’s wrong?"
Cheng Zhiwei pounded her head, "I have to report to the company today."
That day, the interview at the Wen Group had finally yielded a result.
Although Cheng Zhiwei had only been asked two questions, she had easily passed the interview and was required to report to work that day.
But she had forgotten.
It was almost noon, and she would be late if she went now.
"It’s all your fault," Cheng Zhiwei said angrily as she slapped the hand Zhou Lin still had around her waist.
Although she would be late, she still had to go.
Otherwise, it would be too unfair to Wen Ya for the opportunity she had given.
Zhou Lin moved slightly, only to hold her even tighter against him, their skin touching, "I’ve given them a call."
Cheng Zhiwei asked, "What?"
Zhou Lin pinched her cheek, "Don’t worry, it will be fine."
"But..."
"It’s okay if you don’t go, I’ll support you."
His words blurred as he kissed her shoulder.
Moreover, Cheng Zhiwei wasn’t wearing her hearing aid and couldn’t hear clearly.
She was merely drawn back under his captivating control.
In these matters, there often arose extremes due to the physical differences between men and women.
Cheng Zhiwei was exhausted to death, while Zhou Lin became even more animated.
Over and over again.
When she woke up next, the room was filled with the afterglow of the sunset.
The sunset cast a warm orange light, tender and gentle.
She was dressed in clean, soft pajamas, and the sheets and quilt had been changed sometime unknown.
Cheng Zhihei sat up, dazed and stuporous, fiery memories flashing through her mind, leaving her body still weak.
He really had let himself go.
As she dressed and went out, she saw two children sitting next to Zhou Lin on the sofa, listening to him tell a story.
It was such a heartwarming scene, something she had once imagined.
Upon hearing her, Zhou Lin closed the book and looked over with a deep smile.
Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing quickly rushed into her embrace, each kissing one of Cheng Zhiwei’s cheeks, "Mommy."
Cheng Zhiwei pulled herself together and lovingly kissed her two treasures, "Did you have fun at kindergarten today?"
"Fun," Cheng Xing’s little face brimmed with happiness, showing off her thin wrist, "Wen Jun gave me this gift."
Cheng Zhiwei paused, "A gift?"
A delicate and beautiful silver bracelet.
Clearly expensive at first glance.
Cheng Xing touched it, "Yes."
She didn’t realize the value of the bracelet, but she obviously liked it a lot.
Cheng Zhiwei touched her hair, trying to be as gentle and patient as possible, "This bracelet, you see, belongs to his mom and is very valuable, shall we return it?"
Cheng Xing’s little mouth puckered, but she didn’t cry or fuss. Instead, she took off the bracelet and handed it to Cheng Zhiwei, "Okay, let’s return it."
"Xingxing, don’t be sad, Big Brother will buy you an even prettier one," Cheng Yang assured as he thumped his chest.
A light smack came down on his head.
He looked at Zhou Lin unhappily, "Dad, don’t pat my head, it will prevent me from growing tall."
The word ’Dad’ they now uttered very smoothly.
Zhou Lin looked at the bracelet, recognizing the origin with one glance — it was an auctioned item worth thirty million.
Chances were, Wen Jun didn’t know the bracelet’s value, which was why he’d taken it to kindergarten to give to Cheng Xing.
Even at a young age, he knew how to charm a little girl. Growing up, who knows.
Zhou Lin felt uncomfortable inside and, grabbing the car keys, said, "This bracelet is a valuable item, we should return it first."
"Okay."
The family went to the Wen’s house.
The Wen Family was just having dinner.
When Wen Yongan heard Zhou Lin had arrived, he immediately came out, his gaze first falling on Cheng Xing’s face.
Seeing this child again, he still felt she looked very much like that person.
He couldn’t resist reaching out to touch Cheng Xing’s face.
Cheng Xing immediately hid behind Zhou Lin.
Zhou Lin smiled calmly, "Uncle Wen, aren’t you going to invite us in to sit?"
Wen Yongan snapped out of it and hurriedly welcomed them in.
Zhou Lin gave Wen Ya the bracelet and once she understood the whole situation, she laughed and cried at the ridiculousness.
Yet, she turned and handed the bracelet back to Cheng Zhiwei, saying courteously, "I’ve barely worn this bracelet, Xiao Jun must’ve thought I didn’t like it, that’s why he gave it to Cheng Xing. Since he’s given it already, let her keep it as my gift."
"That won’t do, this item is too valuable," Cheng Zhiwei was adamant on not accepting it.
She left the item on the table.
"Consider it a betrothal gift for your future daughter-in-law then," Wen Ya clarified her intentions.
She liked Cheng Xing and thought arranging a child marriage would be nice.
Cheng Zhiwei hadn’t spoken yet when Zhou Lin spoke up to refuse, "The children are too young, there’s no rush for such things."
A joke, that was his daughter; how could he lightly agree to an engagement.
Wen Ya followed along with his pretext, "I was just joking. I haven’t really worn this bracelet much, so it’s for Xingxing."
Wen Yongan was much more genial towards Cheng Xing than he was towards Cheng Zhiwei, nodding, "It’s just a bracelet. If Xingxing likes it, then it’s hers. Why bother bringing it here?"
He looked down, towardly and affectionately at Cheng Xing, "Xingxing, do you like the bracelet? What about I gift it to you?"
Cheng Xing shook her head, softly refusing, "I don’t want it."
Wen Ya had no choice but to take it back.
Taking advantage of their conversation, Wen Yongan pulled Zhou Lin aside, whispering, "I want to do a paternity test."
Zhou Lin raised an eyebrow, "Oh? With who?"
"With...me," Wen Yongan said with a bitter expression, finding it hard to speak.
Zhou Lin looked back at Cheng Xing, the little face showing no resemblance to Wen Yongan.
Nor did Cheng Zhiwei look like Wen Yongan.
He didn’t understand, but he didn’t agree outright either, "Let’s see what Zhiwei thinks."
At the same time, a thought occurred to him; if Cheng Zhiwei wasn’t Cheng Family’s child, could she be from the Wen Family?
It seemed this paternity test was necessary, but he’d have to keep them in the dark for now.
After returning the item, Zhou Lin and Cheng Zhiwei prepared to leave.
But just as they reached the door, they encountered He Ye and Wen Yi.
Wen Yi’s eyes were red, her head bowed down.
"Wen Yi?" Wen Yongan immediately frowned, "What happened?"
He Ye’s gaze, however, had fallen on Cheng Zhiwei as soon as he walked in.
With so many people there, she was the only one he saw.
Zhou Lin noticed this, unapologetically pulling Cheng Zhiwei behind him, meeting He Ye’s gaze.
