Chapter 441: Chapter 441: Main Character Set as a Virtuous Wife and Good Mother
Outside the gate.
He Ye blocked He Mingzhu, looked down at her, and his normally mild and harmless face was full of mocking laughter now.
"He Mingzhu, if you knew this was how it would end, why did you even start?"
His disgust for her was fully exposed in this moment.
He Mingzhu looked up at him, venomously saying, "You really were pretending all along."
"Or else what? Sister, you didn’t actually think you could easily control my life, did you?"
A scornful laugh vibrated from his throat, filled with a touch of triumph.
"I should thank you, though. If it wasn’t for you pushing me, I would not have chosen to come back."
He took a long breath, extremely content, "If I hadn’t come back, I wouldn’t have known I could do just as well in this position as you."
Every sentence he uttered was a knife plunging into He Mingzhu’s heart.
"Consider this card as the tuition you’ve paid for me." He Ye passed a card to He Mingzhu, his voice very low, "Use it sparingly so you don’t starve in the latter half of your life."
"Who wants your charity?" He Mingzhu knocked the card out of his hand.
He Ye looked down at it and made no move to pick it up, "All your assets have been frozen. Without this card, are you planning to beg on the streets?"
"He Ye, don’t be so smug, I will make you pay it all back one day."
"Pay back? With you looking like this now?" He Ye sneered mockingly, "He Mingzhu, don’t overestimate yourself."
He Mingzhu pushed past He Ye, got in her car, and left.
He Ye curled the corner of his mouth and entered the house.
He Mingzhu stayed in a hotel for several days, dispirited. Once certain all her money was truly frozen, her hatred ignited completely.
She didn’t know where she had gone wrong to end up so utterly abandoned.
Zhou Lin was using her, the He family was using her.
They had never been sincere with her from the start.
If that’s the case, then let no one have it easy.
She resolved to go to Yucheng once more.
...
During this period, it was Zhou Lin who drove the children to and from school, and the relationship between father and son had grown much closer.
Zhou Lin was calm and patient with the children, and soon Cheng Zhiwei realized that the kids preferred to stick with Zhou Lin.
She felt a bit of sadness, but seeing Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing happy, she let it go.
Zhou Lin would even occasionally pick them up to fetch Cheng Zhiwei from work, and their life was harmonious.
A few more days passed, and Xu Tian arrived as promised.
However, she was originally supposed to stay at Cheng Zhiwei’s place, but now Zhou Lin was there too, so she had to find another place to live. After looking around, she ended up living not far from Cheng Zhiwei’s home.
Zhou Lin prepared a table full of dishes which utterly shocked Xu Tian; she could hardly believe she hadn’t mistaken someone else for him.
"Has he really started to cultivate his character?" Xu Tian could hardly believe it.
Cheng Zhiwei was very calm by now, "During this period, he’s been responsible for picking up the kids and cooking."
Sometimes when he works late, he still drives to pick her up.
Working hard on the "Good Wife and Wise Mother" image.
It took a while for Xu Tian to recover from her shock. Watching Zhou Lin skillfully busy himself in the kitchen, she couldn’t help but exclaim, "My trip here was worth it."
Cheng Zhiwei smiled, keeping the actual situation to herself.
Cheng Zhiwei asked about her situation, "How is He Lanzhi’s mother?"
"She’s been sent to a nursing home. That’s her life now, I suppose."
If she hadn’t been sent to a nursing home, Xu Tian would never have peace in this life.
"That’s for the best," nodded Cheng Zhiwei.
Xu Tian took a sip of wine, sighed slightly and said, "At the end of the day, it’s only her son in her heart, no matter how well she is treated, she doesn’t care."
So the nursing home is her best destination.
"Speaking of which, I heard something happened to the Xu family?" Cheng Zhiwei remembered the news she saw that day.
Madam Xu’s son got in a fight over a woman and killed someone.
The other party was willing to settle privately, but their demands were astronomical; a huge sum of money was needed.
Madam Xu then approached Xu Tian, asking her to share some of the expenses to bail her son out.
Of course, Xu Tian refused, not to mention she was planning to invest the money into a new company, let alone her relationship with Madam Xu, she wouldn’t pay.
Madam Xu then resorted to bringing people to her doorstep every day to cause a ruckus.
She was just like Mother He.
Ultimately, Xu Tian couldn’t bear it anymore and called the police. Madam Xu still wouldn’t stop; she kept scheming for money.
Obviously, Xu Tian left as soon as she could.
"They had it coming," Xu Tian said with a cold laugh, "The kind of son she raised with her personality, could he be a good person? Anyway, I told her, if she dares to harass me again, I’ll make sure her son stays in jail for life."
Cheng Zhiwei clenched her palm, "They indeed had it coming."
If it weren’t for Madam Xu, Xu Tian wouldn’t have been forced to marry He Lanzhi and wouldn’t have suffered so much.
So this was retribution.
Xu Tian didn’t come here solely for fun; He Lanzhi’s father left He Yuming a not-so-large company. She intended to establish the business, at least not to waste that sincere gesture.
But everything is difficult at the beginning, and Xu Tian still had a lot to learn.
As they talked, they drank, and without realizing it, they drank too much.
Finally, Zhou Lin couldn’t stand it anymore, forcibly took the wine and managed to quiet them down.
The drunker Cheng Zhiwei got, the more normal she seemed to act.
After sending Xu Tian back, Zhou Lin returned to find Cheng Zhiwei had bathed the children and put them to sleep.
Zhou Lin pushed the door open, and what he saw was Cheng Zhiwei leaning against the headboard, eyes closed.
The orange light fell softly on her face, exceptionally gentle.
He felt a warm tenderness in his heart, and tiptoed over to lift her into his arms.
Cheng Zhiwei, halfway between sleeping and waking, instinctively clung to Zhou Lin’s neck, her eyes half-open, "Zhou Lin?"
"It’s me." Zhou Lin took her back to the master bedroom, stroking her hair, "Be good, I’ll go make you some honey water."
"Mmm."
By the time Zhou Lin returned with the honey water, Cheng Zhiwei had already entered the bathroom.
Zhou Lin intended to leave after setting down the cup.
But considering she’d been drinking, he was worried and decided to stay.
And as it turned out, he was right not to leave.
In about a minute, there was a "thud" from the bathroom.
Zhou Lin’s heart tightened; he hurried to the door and knocked, "Zhiwei?"
No response from inside.
He pushed the door open and saw Cheng Zhiwei squatting on the floor, clutching her head, not knowing where she might have fallen.
Zhou Lin wrapped her in a towel and carried her out.
Cheng Zhiwei hung her head, her long wet hair dangling, looking rather pitiful.
A bruise was forming on her fair-skinned calf, with a bit of broken skin; she must have hit it there.
"It hurts," said Cheng Zhiwei feeling aggrieved, though she felt she had been steady on her feet, she somehow fell, hitting her knee on the floor.
Zhou Lin fetched the first aid kit and began tending to her injuries.
The iodine stung as it was applied to her knee, and Cheng Zhiwei shifted away, resisting a bit and tilting her leg to avoid it.
The loosely draped towel slipped down as she moved.
