Chapter 426: Chapter 426: He’s A Man of Principle
Wen Yi felt wronged. She had only wanted to create an opportunity for them to be alone together, which was why she had invited Cheng Zhiwei.
She really didn’t have any bad intentions.
He Ye looked down at Cheng Zhiwei, whose face had turned from flush red to pale white, with faded lips.
Leaving Yucheng, she had wanted to avoid those people and live a quiet life, but now she was still getting hurt.
Wen Ya pinched the bridge of her nose and said to He Ye, "Believe it or not, Wen Yi isn’t that kind of person."
Wen Yi was pure and kind-hearted, one could only say she did a bad thing with good intentions.
Wen Yi shook her head. "Sister, let it go."
Whatever she said now, He Ye wouldn’t believe her.
"He Ye, escort Wen Yi out. I’ll wait here for Zhiwei to wake up." Wen Ya instructed, emphasizing with a firmer tone, "It’s inappropriate for you guys to be here."
He Ye nodded and left.
Wen Yi hurriedly followed.
Outside the door, Wen Yongan was about to enter and they bumped into each other. He frowned slightly, "Wen Yi, what’s wrong?"
Wen Yi quickly lowered her head and said, "It’s nothing."
Wen Yongan immediately looked at He Ye with a stern tone, "Did you bully Wen Yi? Is it because of Cheng Zhiwei again?"
"No, dad." Wen Yi quickly explained, "It was me who dragged Sister Zhiwei there. If you want to blame someone, blame me."
"Wen Yi." Wen Yongan sighed helplessly, "You are my Wen Yongan’s daughter, why do you have to be so compromising? If He Ye wronged you, breaking off the engagement is the right choice."
"No." Wen Yi disagreed without a second’s hesitation.
Wen Yongan was really at a loss with her.
Just then, Wen Ya came out and announced, "She’s awake."
Without thinking, He Ye immediately turned around and entered the hospital room, pushing Wen Yi so hard that she almost stumbled into the doorframe.
Wen Yongan quickly protected Wen Yi, his face darkening completely.
After a few minutes of confusion, Cheng Zhiwei’s mind finally cleared. She still remembered clinging to He Ye.
It was very uncomfortable.
Wen Ya pressed on her shoulders, speaking almost word by word, "Zhiwei, it’s okay."
Cheng Zhiwei understood and appreciated her with a thankful glance.
Her voice was hoarse and her throat dry, "What exactly happened?"
Wen Yi’s eyes reddened as she apologized, "I’m sorry, Sister Zhiwei. I didn’t know this would happen. I..."
She was uneasy because, thinking it over, it seemed impossible to prove her innocence.
And since Cheng Zhiwei had gotten hurt at her birthday party, logically and morally, she was responsible.
"This has nothing to do with you, don’t blame yourself." Cheng Zhiwei comforted Wen Yi with a forced smile.
Wen Yi’s eyes filled with disbelief. Cheng Zhiwei said she believed her...
She believed in herself.
Seeing how Wen Yi looked, Cheng Zhiwei knew how guilty she felt while she was unconscious.
She took the initiative to say, "Wen Yi, really, I believe this has nothing to do with you."
"But I... called you out..." Wen Yi choked up, biting her lip, not knowing what else to say.
"It’s just a coincidence." Cheng Zhiwei’s thoughts were clear, "I guess, there must have been something wrong with the cake, not the whole cake, but the piece they handed to me. I remember, it wasn’t you who handed it to me."
Wen Yongan looked at her, side-eyeing, his impression of Cheng Zhiwei slightly improving.
"Don’t worry, Sister Zhiwei, I’ll find the culprit for you." The weight lifted from Wen Yi’s heart and she broke into a tearful smile, firmly promising to catch the perpetrator.
"Good." Cheng Zhiwei smiled back, then turned to He Ye, "If you guys are okay, you can leave first. With Wen Ya here, I’ll be fine."
He Ye and Wen Yi left without a word.
Wen Yongan started off with a warning tone, "Cheng Zhiwei, I hope you stay away from Wen Yi."
He didn’t say to stay away from He Ye but from Wen Yi, clearly showing his disapproval of He Ye.
Cheng Zhiwei stayed silent for a few seconds, slowly speaking, "Mr. Wen, I have no intention of dragging Wen Yi into these issues, but I’m sorry for involving her this time."
Wen Yongan froze, not understanding why Cheng Zhiwei suddenly took the responsibility on herself, especially since she was clearly a victim.
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t hold back, directly stating, "There should be surveillance in the private room, if not there, then surely in the corridor. Just check carefully, and we should find some clues."
"You mean for me to find the perpetrator?"
"I just think you should check, checking won’t hurt."
Wen Yongan frowned.
Wen Ya had already argued, "We have to give Zhiwei an explanation for what happened. Dad, you can’t really want Wen Yi to investigate on her own, can you?"
Wen Yongan was persuaded by this reasoning. Before leaving, he warned Cheng Zhiwei again, "If this has nothing to do with Mingzhu, then I hope you won’t accuse her anymore and also stay away from my daughter."
Once Wen Yongan had left, Cheng Zhiwei pulled the covers over her face, "I really... can’t show my face."
Wen Ya chuckled, pulling down the covers, "He Ye’s character is still okay, he didn’t take advantage of the situation."
She forgave him for doubting Wen Yi on this matter.
"Senior has always been a good person," Cheng Zhiwei sighed, then snorted, "He Mingzhu will never know how principled he is."
Wen Ya nodded in agreement.
He Ye indeed had principles.
Looking at the time, she said, "You rest for a while, I’ll go make a phone call."
"Okay."
The drugs still affected Cheng Zhiwei’s body, leaving her lethargic and she soon fell asleep with eyes closed.
After an unknown amount of time, a suffocating feeling suddenly made her eyes snap open. The lights in the hospital room were off.
The room was dark, with blurred human figures.
Cheng Zhiwei’s pupils dilated as she instinctively opened her mouth to call out.
By her ear was the warm breath and a familiar voice, "It’s me."
Cheng Zhiwei paused, "Zhou Lin?"
In the darkness, Zhou Lin accurately pressed a kiss to the corner of her lips, mumbling a vague "Hmm."
The kiss deepened at the corner of the lips, and the breathing got heavier in the dark.
The drugs in Cheng Zhiwei’s body hadn’t completely worn off, her hands pushing against Zhou Lin’s chest quickly becoming weak, and even instinctively wanting to hook his neck to pull him closer.
Luckily, her rationality was still online, and she forcefully held back.
Fine sweat seeped on her forehead.
