The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife -
Chapter 404: Bring Him Back
Chapter 404: Chapter 404: Bring Him Back
A hint of cold, knowing smirk surfaced on Zhou Lin’s face as he extinguished his cigarette butt in the ashtray, "How far has our cooperation with the He family progressed?"
Secretary Zhang was taken aback for a moment, then realized, "The contract has been signed, and both the technical integration and funding are already in place."
The collaboration project between the two families was immense and far-reaching. If the partnership were to be terminated rashly now, both families would suffer significant losses, especially Zhou Group, which might take three to five years to recover.
"What a grand scheme." Zhou Lin sneered with disdain.
"President Zhou."
"This matter must not alarm anyone."
"Yes."
After being caught in the rain, nearly falling from upstairs, and finally getting stabbed, Cheng Zhiwei’s complexion was extremely pale and ugly; she hardly had any strength to speak.
Zhou Lin, expressionless, carefully helped her put on her hearing aid and then held her icy fingertips, speaking sternly, "Why did you rush up there? With so many people around, did you need to risk yourself?"
And to think, she was stabbed.
Cheng Zhiwei moved her lips helplessly, "How about Qiqi? Is she okay?"
At that moment, all she could think about was Zhou Ruoki’s danger, not the other concerns.
Moreover, she had been the first to notice. She was just in time to save Zhou Ruoki; with those people behind her, who knew what would have become of Zhou Ruoki by the time they arrived.
In any case, Cheng Zhiwei volunteered willingly.
"He’s fine." Zhou Lin sighed lowly, his voice dense with coldness, "He is not worth you doing this for him."
Zhou Ruoki had turned off the surveillance and locked Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing in the basement, creating a fake atmosphere of the children being missing and kidnapped. Just for this alone, he was unforgivable, not to mention the lies he’d told before.
Cheng Zhiwei shook her head weakly. She was angry with Zhou Ruoki, but he was her son. Just that fact alone meant she could not truly leave him be.
"I want to see him," Cheng Zhiwei said softly.
Only by seeing for herself that he was safe and sound could she be at ease.
"I have already sent him away," said Zhou Lin, emotionless.
Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes widened suddenly. Sent away?
"He has gone to a closed training camp and will stay there until he’s twelve," Zhou Lin said harshly, showing no mercy even to his own son.
Cheng Zhiwei tried to sit up in shock, pulling her wound and suddenly losing her strength. She just widened her eyes, looking angrily at Zhou Lin.
How could he send Zhou Ruoki to such a place without discussing it with her? And for so many years.
Zhou Lin pressed down on her shoulders, full of thin anger and reprimanded, "Are you out of your mind? What are you moving for? What if the wound splits open?"
Cheng Zhiwei grabbed the blanket tightly, staring straight at Zhou Lin, "Bring him back now, right now."
"Aren’t you the one who said he’s not your son? Why do you care so much?" Zhou Lin used her own words to block her.
Cheng Zhiwei grew more pained when she got angry, fine beads of sweat appearing on her forehead, "Zhou Lin, I’m not joking with you. Bring him back. He’s so young, how much can he endure?"
Besides, what if Zhou Ruoki felt they were purposely abandoning him there, and ended up hating them even more in the future?
She couldn’t care less about her wound, struggling to get up.
Zhou Lin’s eyebrows almost knotted, "If you keep torturing yourself for him, I’ll make sure he never comes back."
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t dare move anymore, saying angrily, "I won’t move, but you bring him back."
"Do you know what he’s done?" Zhou Lin didn’t even dare to tell Cheng Zhiwei what had happened at that time.
Cheng Zhiwei looked at him, "Tell me."
"He turned off the surveillance, tricked Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing into locking themselves in the basement, then climbed out the window on the first floor and secretly sneaked out," Zhou Lin rubbed his brow.
He had underestimated Zhou Ruoki; there were bodyguards at home, but the boy had still managed to slip out unnoticed.
"Someone had promised to take him away."
"It’s that man," Cheng Zhiwei recalled the hooded man, speaking somewhat urgently, "That man didn’t come to pick him up; he clearly wanted to kill Qiqi."
Zhou Lin gripped her palm, calming her down, "He might not have really wanted to kill Qiqi, it might have been just a warning."
"A warning?"
Stormy currents surged in the depths of Zhou Lin’s eyes, but his face remained impassive, "The cut on you is not deep. If it had truly been life-threatening, you would be either dead on the operating table or in the intensive care unit by now, not here."
Cheng Zhiwei touched her abdomen. She hadn’t really thought that much; all she knew was the pain.
"Whose warning?" she asked.
"I’m investigating," Zhou Lin did not directly answer the question, even though he already knew who it was.
Cheng Zhiwei knew she would not get anything out of him and stopped asking, but she still insisted that Zhou Lin bring Zhou Ruoki back.
"What if he does this to you and Xingxing and Yangyang again next time? Have you thought about that? He’s like a ticking time bomb."
"No, he was just deceived. I believe he’s not inherently bad. If you send him to that place, he might develop psychological issues. Zhou Lin, that’s my son."
Cheng Zhiwei shouted with all the strength she had. She was truly both anxious and angry.
Zhou Lin looked at her for a while, his serious expression softening, and he touched her hair then took out his phone from his pocket. On the phone’s screen, a video call was in progress.
Zhou Ruoki was pursing his lips, his small body sitting upright and proper.
"Qiqi, don’t be afraid. Mommy will find a way to get you back," Cheng Zhiwei hurried to comfort him.
Upon this, Zhou Ruoki burst into tears, but perhaps because there were people around, he didn’t dare to cry loudly, his tears falling down like pearls.
Cheng Zhiwei felt even more heartbroken and glared fiercely at Zhou Lin.
Zhou Lin touched his nose, remaining silent.
"I apologize," a tiny voice said in the video.
Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes reddened, "It’s okay, Qiqi."
Zhou Ruoki opened his mouth, "Mommy."
Cheng Zhiwei paused, then her tears fell in torrents.
At this moment, her desire to reprimand Zhou Lin peaked.
An unfamiliar male voice interjected, "Young Madam Zhou, don’t worry. Your child will receive very good care and training with us."
In Cheng Zhiwei’s understanding, a closed training camp meant not enough food or clothes and suffering inhumane torture.
How could Zhou Ruoki endure that?
So she didn’t believe a word from this stranger.
The man continued, "President Zhou also spent time in our training camp as a child. He knows very well how we train. We also have a two-day leave every month for family members to come and visit the entire site. We look forward to welcoming you."
Cheng Zhiwei was stunned, feeling as if she couldn’t understand.
Zhou Lin took his phone back and thanked the man.
Cheng Zhiwei pursued the truth, "What’s going on exactly?"
