Chapter 401: Chapter 401 The Living Are More Important
Cheng Zhiwei braced herself against the wind and made a full turn, but she didn’t see any sign of the children.
Only Cheng Shang was standing by the railing. Upon seeing Cheng Zhiwei, he revealed a terrifying smile, "You’ve finally come."
"Where are they?" Cheng Zhiwei demanded angrily.
"Of course, I wouldn’t hide them here," Cheng Shang pointed to a spot opposite him, "Cheng Zhiwei, stand over there."
Blown by the wind, Cheng Zhiwei’s emotions calmed slightly, "You lied to me."
Kindergarten ended at three o’clock, and it was impossible for Cheng Shang to take the kids away so early, not to mention the bodyguards were there.
Maybe... maybe it was just like last time, and they had gone somewhere to eat.
She turned to leave.
"Cheng Zhiwei, do you dare to bet where I’ve arranged for them to be right now?" Cheng Shang’s voice suddenly rose, drifting in the wind.
Cheng Zhiwei could no longer move her feet.
She didn’t dare to bet.
Clenching her fists, she turned around again to face Cheng Shang, "What will it take for you to release them?"
No matter whether Cheng Shang had kidnapped them or not, it was true they were not at home now.
Cheng Shang took out a photograph of Seo Zhenzhen from his bag, a black-and-white memorial portrait framed with care. He tenderly wiped it before speaking slowly, "You caused Zhenzhen’s death and refused to let Zhou Ruoki return to the Cheng Family. How could someone as venomous as you deserve the Cheng surname."
In the black-and-white photo, Seo Zhenzhen looked coldly at Cheng Zhiwei.
The wind seemed to grow colder.
"You live healthily and happily in her place while she was bullied; you even stole her boyfriend and child. Today, I will seek justice for her," he said as he took out stacks of joss paper to burn.
The scent of the burning paper money immediately filled the air.
Cheng Zhiwei tried to say, "But it was you who didn’t take care of her at the time."
"So, I’ll go join her," Cheng Shang said nonchalantly, evidently having made up his mind long ago.
Cheng Zhiwei’s throat was dry, she stood by the door, and Cheng Shang wasn’t worried she would run away, he didn’t even stop her when she made a call to confirm whether the kids were at home.
He knew she wouldn’t flee.
After all, she valued those two children more than her own life.
A large raindrop fell, followed by the sound of a downpour.
It began to rain heavily.
The joss paper Cheng Shang was burning was scattered and soaked by the raindrops; he hurriedly saved the photograph, cursing neurotically at the heavens for raining.
His manic behavior made Cheng Zhiwei finally realize that Cheng Shang had truly gone mad from Seo Zhenzhen’s death.
"Come here," Cheng Shang’s complexion looked pale against the darkening sky.
He pointed to the railing, "A life for a life, Cheng Zhiwei, it’s time to pay your debt to Zhenzhen."
Cheng Zhiwei could back away, but she couldn’t.
Because she didn’t know where the children were.
She could only drag her feet and walk step by step towards the railing.
Luckily, Cheng Shang loathed and hated her to the extreme, seemingly not even wanting to come close. So she wasn’t worried about Cheng Shang suddenly pushing her over.
She reached the railing and stood still.
"Cheng Zhiwei, every minute you hesitate, your two children are in greater danger," Cheng Shang’s expression was full of malice.
"I need to see them safe," Cheng Zhiwei replied coldly, she wanted to see who was helping Cheng Shang behind the scenes.
As she spoke, she stepped back once again.
Cheng Shang ominously stared at her.
Cheng Zhiwei felt, had she not just retreated, that with the words she had just spoken, Cheng Shang would have pushed her over.
The heavy rain fell fiercely, soon drenching Cheng Zhiwei. Locks of hair clung to her face, presenting a pitiful sight.
This time, Cheng Shang took out Seo Zhenzhen’s black-and-white photo from the bag again, holding it and muttering under his breath, "Don’t be afraid, Zhenzhen. Daddy will be with you soon, just wait for me..."
Cheng Zhiwei had one foot on the stairwell when she saw Cheng Shang’s grim gaze through the curtain of rain.
He taunted, "Cheng Zhiwei, if you don’t believe it, you can leave now. Wait to collect the corpses of those two children."
He simply wouldn’t fall for it, perhaps because he had nothing to lose. Cheng Zhiwei had everything to fear.
"I’ll count to three, and if you don’t come over, you’ll never see them alive again."
Cheng Zhiwei had no choice but to walk over there.
Just then, the door to the stairwell was flung open, and two unexpected people appeared.
Guo Cuihua shouted through the rain, "Cheng Shang, what are you doing?"
Cheng Zhiyin held an umbrella, "Dad, what is this?"
"Cheng Zhiwei, you really should die for bringing them here. I’m telling you, you won’t get to find them," Cheng Shang lost control and glared fiercely at Cheng Zhiwei, "All of you will accompany my Zhenzhen in death."
Cheng Zhiwei looked at Guo Cuihua and Cheng Zhiyin, equally surprised, "How did you get here?"
They should have been on a plane by this time.
"Mom actually knew all along that you were at the airport. She saw you leave in a rush and knew something was wrong, so she followed you," Cheng Zhiyin explained.
Nobody expected such a situation.
"What does he want to do?" Cheng Zhiyin asked.
Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes were swollen with tears: "He has taken Yangyang and Xingxing away, and he’s threatening me to jump down to atone for Seo Zhenzhen’s death, or else he won’t let them go."
Guo Cuihua was incredulous, screaming at Cheng Shang, "Where have you hidden Yangyang and Xingxing? How could you do this, aren’t you afraid of retribution?"
Holding Seo Zhenzhen’s memorial photo, Cheng Shang snickered, "I’ve already suffered retribution. Cuihua, you’re just in time. The murderer who killed Zhenzhen is right here; we need to seek revenge for her."
He was utterly deranged.
"Dad, stop this nonsense," Cheng Zhiyin was also angered. Cheng Yang and Cheng Xing were so innocent; how could Cheng Shang harm two children?
And use the children to threaten Cheng Zhiwei.
With Seo Zhenzhen gone, why couldn’t things come to rest?
"Zhiyin, Zhiyin, she’s your sister. You have to help Dad, help your sister," Cheng Shang tried to involve Cheng Zhiyin. Subconsciously, he hoped the family would unite to avenge Seo Zhenzhen.
Seo Zhenzhen once manipulated Gao Wei to cause Cheng Zhiyin such grief. Although Cheng Zhiyin initially felt uncomfortable upon learning that she had a sister, she now found it very hard to sympathize with this so-called sibling.
She spoke coldly, "The living are more important."
Cheng Shang was extremely disappointed and cursed at Cheng Zhiyin for being heartless and disloyal, having been bought over by Cheng Zhiwei.
Unable to restrain herself any longer, Guo Cuihua charged through the rain, snatched Seo Zhenzhen’s memorial photo from Cheng Shang’s arms, and threw it on the ground, "How much more must you make others suffer because of her?"
Seo Zhenzhen had died, and with that, many issues should have been resolved, yet Cheng Shang persisted in creating turmoil.
