Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Zhou Lin Must Have Taken the Wrong Medicine

Lin Yu clapped her hands enthusiastically, "Doctor Meng, do come to our house more often as a guest."

"Of course, Madam Zhou."

During the meal, Zhou Lin and Cheng Zhiwei sat together, while Meng Qiancheng sat opposite them. Meng Qiancheng and Lin Yu chatted back and forth, with most of the conversation naturally revolving around Cheng Zhiwei’s past.

And perhaps it was Zhou Lin’s imagination, but every time Cheng Zhiwei was mentioned, Meng Qiancheng’s tone seemed indulgent, the kind a man reserves for doting on a woman.

The dinner was full of mirth, except for Zhou Lin, who sat expressionless, as if everyone present owed him money.

Cheng Zhiwei was even less inclined to cater to Zhou Lin’s mood, sitting beside him but acting as if she hadn’t noticed a thing.

When it was time to toast, she also joined in with a drink.

The moment the glass reached her lips, it was snatched away by a scowling Zhou Lin, "Don’t you know you shouldn’t drink alcohol when your throat is uncomfortable?"

It was just some wine, hardly of any strength; Cheng Zhiwei gave him a glare, puzzled.

Lin Yu naturally sided with Cheng Zhiwei and gave Zhou Lin a look, "It’s just wine, it doesn’t have much alcohol content, and Doctor Meng is here, he didn’t say anything."

The implication was that Zhou Lin was meddling unnecessarily.

Zhou Lin’s face was stern as he glanced sideways at Meng Qiancheng and sneered, "He’s still a doctor, doesn’t he even know this basic common sense?"

Impolite to the extreme.

Meng Qiancheng, unruffled, simply laughed, "A little won’t hurt."

Cheng Zhiwei reached out to take it.

Zhou Lin simply downed the drink in one gulp and ordered the auntie in the kitchen to bring Cheng Zhiwei some juice instead.

Lin Yu sighed contentedly, "I’m so happy to see you two showing such affection for each other."

Cheng Zhiwei: "..."

Zhou Lin must have taken some wrong medicine today.

Zhou Lin: "..."

He just didn’t want Cheng Zhiwei to take this opportunity to play tricks, and also, he despised Meng Qiancheng.

The word ’despise’ once it emerged from the depths of his heart, couldn’t be reigned back in; Zhou Lin then nonchalantly picked up some shredded meat with his chopsticks and put it on Cheng Zhiwei’s plate.

Meng Qiancheng spoke in a dispassionate tone, "The shredded meat is a bit spicy, Weiwei, don’t eat it since your throat is sore."

Cheng Zhiwei pushed the shredded meat to the side and took a bite of rice.

A low pressure seemed to radiate from Zhou Lin in an instant as he fixated his gaze on the fair side of Cheng Zhiwei’s face, which now was completely indifferent.

With a "smack," Zhou Lin slammed his chopsticks down on the table and stood up coldly, "I’m full, you guys continue eating."

The table fell silent for a moment.

Meng Qiancheng put down his chopsticks, looking innocently perturbed, "Did I somehow upset Young President Zhou?"

Lin Yu said with a smile, "It’s okay, he’s just grumpy like that. Doctor Meng, please help yourself."

Meng Qiancheng’s gaze inadvertently swept over Zhou Chenyuan, seeming concerned that Chenyuan would be upset, but he still didn’t pick up his chopsticks.

Lin Yu handed a bowl of soup to Meng Qiancheng, "Doctor Meng, it’s your first time visiting. Eat more."

She also passed a bowl of soup to Cheng Zhiwei, her tone gentle and kind, "This soup is very light. It’s okay for you to have some."

Cheng Zhiwei took it, thanking him with her eyes.

After the meal, Meng Qiancheng was ready to leave, and Cheng Zhiwei walked him to the door.

Meng Qiancheng took a box out of his coat pocket and opened it; inside laid a diamond bracelet, "I was planning to give this to you tomorrow when I visited your uncle and aunt. I didn’t expect to run into you here..."

He paused, his voice tinged with an indescribable bitterness, "Weiwei, I truly regret not being there for you all these years, not protecting you."

Cheng Zhiwei guessed that he might have learned about her and Zhou Lin’s past after finding out she was Zhou Lin’s wife, which is why he would say something like this.

Her eyes were slightly red, but she gently shook her head. Even if Meng Qiancheng had been there, things that were meant to happen still would have happened. He had a bright future ahead, and she was happy for him.

Meng Qiancheng took out the bracelet, his voice low and husky, filled with tenderness, disappointment, and countless yearnings, "Let me put it on for you, as my belated wedding gift to you."

Tears brimmed in Cheng Zhiwei’s eyes, yet there was also a smile. She obediently extended her hand and allowed Meng Qiancheng to put the bracelet on her.

The bracelet fit perfectly, and the sparkling diamonds made Cheng Zhiwei’s wrists look as pale as snow. Meng Qiancheng’s eyes reddened, and he couldn’t help but lean over to embrace Cheng Zhiwei, "Weiwei, I’m back, if he dares to bully you, just tell me, and I’ll have your back."

Cheng Zhiwei closed her eyes and responded to the hug.

The curtains in the room upstairs moved slightly.

By the time Cheng Zhiwei had seen Meng Qiancheng out and come back in, Lin Yu brought a tray over, laden with food, and whispered to Cheng Zhiwei, "Zhiwei, would you mind taking this to Ah Lin for me?"

Cheng Zhiwei nodded, took the tray to the room, knowing that Lin Yu was only being polite to Meng Qiancheng because of her. Meng Qiancheng had made Zhou Lin unhappy, and though Lin Yu said it was nothing, she still felt for Zhou Lin.

She knocked on the door, but no one answered.

Cheng Zhiwei then pushed the door open, just as she placed the tray down, the bathroom door opened, and Zhou Lin came out. He had taken a shower, with just a towel wrapped around his waist, his hair wet and dripping water, his body also glistening with droplets.

Zhou Lin’s skin was very fair, and he was in good shape, so at a glance, Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t see an ounce of excess fat on him, whether on his upper body or his legs, all well-proportioned, firm, and perfectly defined.

Despite having been intimate twice, once she was in a daze, and the other under the covers, she had never truly seen Zhou Lin’s body this clearly, and from such close quarters.

She could even make out his tight abs and the elegant V of his muscles.

She looked away, intending to leave as soon as she settled down the food.

"Wait," Zhou Lin suddenly spoke, walking towards her.

The scent of his shower gel and the steam from his body enveloped her senses as he approached, causing Cheng Zhiwei’s cheeks to uncontrollably heat up, but not wanting Zhou Lin to notice, she stubbornly met his gaze.

She just hoped he would speak his business quickly and let her leave.

However, her blushing cheeks and the reddish tips of her ears exposed her shyness under the light.

Zhou Lin had begun with a bellyful of anger, but for some reason, he was unable to release it now and just coldly stared at her, "Dry my hair for me."

Cheng Zhiwei tugged at her lips, lifted her foot to leave, but Zhou Lin grasped her wrist.

She frowned, glaring at him impatiently. She didn’t want to dry his hair for him; she wasn’t his servant.

But Zhou Lin wouldn’t let go, insistently wanting Cheng Zhiwei to dry his hair.

After a few minutes of standoff, it ended with Cheng Zhiwei’s compromise. She didn’t want to stay in the room for long and have others misconstrue her relationship with Zhou Lin, so she decided to make it quick.

Zhou Lin sat on the edge of the bed, and Cheng Zhiwei stood beside him, unenthusiastically drying his hair with the hair dryer.

Her soft fingers skillfully weaved through his black hair, occasionally touching the scalp, the heat from the hair dryer seemingly less intense than the warmth of her fingertips.

Amidst the whirring sound of the hair dryer, Zhou Lin’s voice emerged, "Cheng Zhiwei, what’s up with your throat?"
