Chapter 34 Ah, could it be that I won’t be able to speak anymore?

Chapter 34: Chapter 34 Ah, could it be that I won’t be able to speak anymore?

"Prepare the car, send Miss Cheng to the hospital," He Ye instructed, comforting as he patted Cheng Zhiwei’s shoulder, "Don’t worry, I’m here."

Since only Cheng Zhiwei and Bai Zhuzhu were scheduled to record today, and now Cheng Zhiwei had suddenly encountered an emergency, He Ye simply had someone tell Bai Zhuzhu to come back another time for recording.

Unexpectedly, Bai Zhuzhu ran over immediately, her eyes concealed triumph, yet she feigned concern, "Sister Zhiwei, what happened to you?"

Cheng Zhiwei clenched her fist, without hesitation, without needing to think, she knew for sure that Bai Zhuzhu was behind this. She tugged at He Ye’s clothes, signaling him to take the cup she had drunk from.

But when she turned around, there was no cup on the table.

She stalled for a moment, realizing that too many people had rushed in just now and someone had taken the opportunity to remove the cup.

Bai Zhuzhu shrieked with exaggerated surprise, "Sister Zhiwei, why aren’t you speaking? What’s wrong? Is it a vocal problem? Oh no, a vocal issue at such a critical time? Oh, please don’t tell me you won’t be able to speak at all in the future?"

Her schadenfreude was evident.

Overwhelming anger made Cheng Zhi’s shoulders shake. She stared at Bai Zhuzhu with deathly focus, and with Zhou Lin’s protection, Bai Zhuzhu was uninhibited.

Now, she had made it so that Zhiwei could not produce a sound from her throat.

He Ye said angrily, "Bai Zhuzhu, did you do this?"

Bai Zhuzhu responded with feigned innocence, tugging at the corners of her mouth, "Mr. He, I know you have a special relationship with Sister Zhiwei, but you can’t just wrong me like that, I wasn’t even in the same room as her."

He Ye snorted coldly, "The evidence will surface soon enough."

He supported Cheng Zhiwei as they quickly left.

Bai Zhuzhu watched them go and then burst out laughing, ’Cheng Zhiwei, don’t you have a naturally good voice?’

This time, I want to see what you’re going to do.

At the hospital, Cheng Zhiwei typed on her phone, explaining that she lost her voice suddenly after drinking a cup of water, but she didn’t detect any strange taste at the time.

The doctor couldn’t make a diagnosis, so they had to draw blood for testing.

The results wouldn’t be available until the next day.

Sitting on the chair, Cheng Zhiwei’s eyelashes quivered, her eyes swelling and reddening.

He Ye comforted her, "It’s okay, once the results are out, the doctor can prescribe the right medicine, and your throat will recover very soon."

Cheng Zhiwei took out her phone and typed, asking He Ye to go back to the studio to investigate who had brought her that cup of water on Bai Zhuzhu’s behalf.

There was no use waiting here, so He Ye agreed and left.

Cheng Zhi’s throat was not only voiceless now but had also begun to itch and hurt. The doctor prescribed her some medicine to alleviate the symptoms temporarily until they could treat the condition properly once the results were in.

Having received the medication and ready to leave, she was startled by a surprised voice, "Zhiwei?"

Cheng Zhiwei turned around and saw an old acquaintance she hadn’t seen in a long time. Instinctively wanting to say hello, she couldn’t produce a sound and awkwardly waved her hand as a greeting.

Meng Qiancheng, wearing a white lab coat, walked over quickly with concern, "Are you sick?"

He took it upon himself to examine the medication in Cheng Zhiwei’s hand, frowning, "Throat lozenges?"

Cheng Zhiwei pointed to her throat and shook her head helplessly.

"Your throat?" Meng Qiancheng’s expression changed slightly. "Come with me."

Meng Qiancheng was a child sponsored by the Cheng Family; he had lived with them for a while and had a very good relationship with the Cheng sisters. After pursuing a doctoral degree in medicine abroad, he had only recently returned to the country.

After finding out about the situation from Cheng Zhiwei’s attending physician, Meng Qiancheng was silent for a while before saying, "You go home first, and I’ll call you when the results are out. You can come to the hospital and look for me directly."

Cheng Zhiwei felt much more at ease and nodded in thanks.

Meng Qiancheng chuckled helplessly, "I was planning to visit your parents after work stabilized in a few days. I didn’t expect to encounter you here. You really... did a number on yourself. Your parents would be so heartbroken if they knew about this."

Cheng Zhiwei hurriedly typed, asking him to keep this incident a secret for her.

Meng Qiancheng then asked her, "Aren’t you going home?"

After a few seconds of silence, Cheng Zhiwei shook her head and then waved goodbye instead.

Meng Qiancheng stood there for a while before withdrawing his gaze, his expression turning cold.

Cheng Zhiwei went home and informed Wang Mei, also reminding her to keep it from Lin Yu so as not to worry her.

Wang Mei didn’t say much and agreed.

He Ye sent a message, informing Cheng Zhiwei that the person who had given her water was someone the studio had hired not long ago, and of course, that person was gone now. He had already reported the incident to the police.

Cheng Zhiwei clenched her phone tight, curled up on the couch. The person was definitely sent away immediately. With Wu Chengshuang’s incident before, Bai Zhuzhu wouldn’t make the same mistake again.

She lay there for a while and fell asleep on the couch.

She didn’t know how long it had been when she was woken up by a push. As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Zhou Lin standing in front of her with a stern face, coldly saying, "Get up and change clothes."

Cheng Zhiwei’s mood soured at the sight of him, so she simply lowered her gaze as if she had heard nothing and remained indifferent on the couch.

Zhou Lin frowned, "Cheng Zhiwei, get changed and go have dinner at your parents’ place."

Cheng Zhiwei still kept her head down looking at her phone, not responding at all.

Zhou Lin watched her for a few seconds with his arms crossed. Seeing that she was still unmoved, he reached out, grabbed her arm, and lifted her from the couch. Her long hair slipped down to reveal her swollen eyes.

Zhou Lin’s brows furrowed, "You..."

In the next second, Cheng Zhiwei had already slapped his hand away. Her eyes, still slightly misty and blurred from crying, were filled with disdain and estrangement.

Zhou Lin stuffed his hands into his pockets and snickered coldly, "It was you who said it yourself, we each live our own lives and act together when needed. Now you’re reluctant; seeing an old flame rekindled, can’t bear to part, is that it?"

Unable to speak, Cheng Zhiwei simply headed upstairs.

Her wrist was grabbed again as Zhou Lin pulled her back, his voice low and his eyes surging with coldness, "Cheng Zhiwei, what are you playing at? Zhuzhu said that because of you, He Ye didn’t record her song today. She has to waste more time waiting for a few more days. Your precious senior took up for you, aren’t you satisfied yet?"

His words were sarcastic with a tinge of acidity.

Cheng Zhiwei shook off his grip forcefully, her face etched with deep-seated disdain and disappointment. Saying such things, he never thought about his own actions, assuming it was okay for him to offer unlimited support to Bai Zhuzhu, but no one else could help her.

If she could speak at that moment, she would have had a proper argument for sure.

Zhou Lin was unaware that Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t speak at the time and just felt that her temper was becoming increasingly odd.

However, the dinner today had been brought up spontaneously by Lin Yu; Zhou Lin thought it must have been regarding the recent incident where Bai Zhuzhu framed Cheng Zhiwei, and that’s why he made a special trip to pick up Cheng Zhiwei.

He hadn’t expected Cheng Zhiwei to react this way.

Feeling extremely disgruntled, Zhou Lin chased after Cheng Zhiwei. Without further ado, he picked her up by her waist and headed straight out the door.

Cheng Zhiwei struggled in vain, biting his chin in anger.

Zhou Lin winced in pain, cursed her as a lunatic, and shoved Cheng Zhiwei into the car, "Are you a dog or what?"
