Chapter 330: Chapter 330: She is the Moon in the Sky, You are the Mud on the Ground

Zhou Lin’s thin lips pursed, a careless smile tracing his face. Someone dared to impersonate him to save Seo Zhenzhen.

"Look into He Lanzhi," he immediately thought of He Lanzhi.

Secretary Zhang shook his head, "I’ve thoroughly investigated Young Master He’s whereabouts after his release. It isn’t him. Moreover, Young Master He loathes Seo Zhenzhen to the extreme since he found out that the young master wasn’t his child."

That made sense. Otherwise, He Lanzhi wouldn’t have disclosed everything Seo Zhenzhen had done back then.

"Find Seo Zhenzhen and check if any outsiders have appeared in Yucheng recently.’

"Yes."

After taking her medicine and sweating it out, Cheng Zhiwei woke up feeling sticky and uncomfortable. She groggily got up, intending to take a shower.

The moment her bare feet touched the floor, Zhou Lin who had just entered caught her and brought her back.

Zhou Lin’s handsome brows furrowed deeply, his expression darkening, "Cheng Zhiwei, do you not care about your own health?"

Instead of lying down, she got up. What for?

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t even look at him but once again threw off the blanket and got up.

Zhou Lin’s gaze swept over her pale face after the fever. He touched her forehead with his palm, then stepped back slightly and said softly, "Tell me what you need, I’ll help you."

Cheng Zhiwei gave him a cold glance, her brows tightly furrowed in impatience, still insisting on getting out of bed.

"Zhiwei?" Zhou Lin’s gaze lingered on her ear, pausing. He then noticed she wasn’t wearing her hearing aids.

He took the hearing aids from the bedside table and handed them to her, but Cheng Zhiwei avoided them. Since she couldn’t communicate with Zhou Lin, she might as well not communicate at all.

Zhou Lin finally realized she was being stubborn.

Somewhat amused yet exasperated, he wanted to coax her, but realized that without the hearing aids, she couldn’t hear him. Therefore, he could only gently stroke her hair.

Cheng Zhiwei had already passed him, grabbed her clothes, and entered the bathroom.

Zhou Lin softly placed the hearing aids on the bedside table and left the bedroom.

After Cheng Zhiwei had showered and changed, her phone rang. She put on her hearing aids, and He Ye’s gentle voice came into her ear, "Zhiwei, are you not at home?"

Cheng Zhiwei paused, "What’s up?"

Cheng Yang’s playful voice came through the phone.

Cheng Zhiwei quickly understood, "You’re at my place?"

"Yeah, I texted you but you didn’t reply, called you but you didn’t answer. I thought maybe your cold had gotten worse, so I came over to check on you. Auntie said you didn’t come home last night?" He Ye asked softly, "Did something happen?"

Cheng Zhiwei gripped her phone tighter. She could hardly admit that she had stayed over at Zhou Lin’s the previous night. After a few seconds of silence, she lied, "I was afraid of passing the cold to the child, so I stayed at Xu Tian’s place."

"Then I’ll come over to you."

"No need."

Back and forth, Cheng Zhiwei sighed internally. Her replies sounded too unnatural.

He Ye would definitely not believe her.

Just as she was about to speak, He Ye already said, "Then I won’t come over. Rest well."

"Okay, senior." Cheng Zhiwei breathed a sigh of relief.

After hanging up, Cheng Zhiwei looked out at the morning sun. She thought, maybe she shouldn’t have accepted He Ye’s advances while she hadn’t completely cleared things up with Zhou Lin.

She was hurting He Ye.

As she pondered, her phone ’dinged’ with a new message.

[Miss Cheng, we found the Sunshine Welfare Institute. You could make a visit.]

Cheng Zhiwei’s heartbeat quickened. The Sunshine Welfare Institute?

A somewhat familiar name.

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t think too much. She immediately ran downstairs quickly.

Zhou Lin had just served breakfast and hadn’t had the chance to call Cheng Zhiwei when he saw her rushing out like a gust of wind.

He strode after her and caught up to her at the doorway, "What happened?"

"The orphanage, I need to go to the orphanage." Cheng Zhiwei held onto his arm, her voice trembling yet speaking rapidly, "A private detective said he found the whereabouts of the child, at Sunshine Welfare Institute. You have a car, you take me there."

The news of the child made her emotionally stirred, completely forgetting the unpleasantness between her and Zhou Lin.

"Okay, wait here for me, I will get the keys."

All the way there, Cheng Zhiwei was extremely anxious. Her gaze alternated between her phone and what lay ahead, her complexion growing even paler.

In her mind, she repeatedly pondered how tall the child had gotten, whether he had grown thinner or fatter, and whether he would resent her for losing him.

The more she thought, the more distressed she felt.

Her fingers twisted, and she bit her lip.

"Zhiwei."

Her palm was tightly gripped. Zhou Lin comforted her, "We will find him."

He actually held no hope for this trip to the welfare institute, because whatever the private detective could discover, his people could too, but Secretary Zhang hadn’t mentioned it, presumably knowing there was nothing there.

Or perhaps, there was never anything there to begin with.

Still, he couldn’t bear to strip Cheng Zhiwei of her hope, preferring to accompany her on this journey.

Having gone to the welfare institute and asked around, sure enough, they found nothing.

Cheng Zhiwei stood desolately in the hallway, Zhou Lin was still talking to the director in the office, but she heard none of it.

She just felt heartache and wanted to cry.

A shadow fell over her, and Cheng Zhiwei was enveloped in Zhou Lin’s arms, his large hand gently patting her back, silently comforting her.

Cheng Zhiwei soon calmed her emotions and prepared to leave.

"You’re Mr. Cheng’s daughter, right?" The director approached with a smile, speaking to Cheng Zhiwei, "I remember your father bringing you here when he came to see Seo Zhenzhen and Meng Qiancheng."

Cheng Zhiwei suddenly remembered. No wonder she found the names familiar; this was the very welfare institute where Seo Zhenzhen and Meng Qiancheng grew up.

"You still remember me." Cheng Zhiwei forced a smile with some difficulty.

"You and your father look quite alike." The director reminisced about that time. "Speaking of which, your father seemed quite anxious to sponsor those two children; otherwise, I would have definitely recommended he sponsor younger children."

"Did my father specifically ask to sponsor Seo Zhenzhen and Meng Qiancheng?"

A bit strange.

"Actually, Mr. Cheng initially came to sponsor Seo Zhenzhen. Meng Qiancheng was included because she was close to her, so Mr. Cheng noticed her and decided to sponsor both," the director patted Cheng Zhiwei’s shoulder, "It’s all in the past now, just mentioning it casually, I won’t keep you any longer."

"Thank you." Cheng Zhiwei said, her thoughts entirely occupied by the director’s previous words.

Her father had initially come here for Seo Zhenzhen?

...

He Mingzhu looked at the freshly received photo, elegantly took a sip of water, and glanced at the haggard woman on the couch, waving the photo in front of her, "Seo Zhenzhen, see this? This is the man you love the most."

Seo Zhenzhen clenched her fists, her gaze, however, hatefully settled on Cheng Zhiwei’s face beside Zhou Lin.

It was all her fault, ruining everything for herself.

"Can’t accept it, can you?" He Mingzhu leisurely walked to the table to pour herself a glass of red wine, a smile curling on her lips, "Look at you. Whether it’s your background or your current status, neither compares to Cheng Zhiwei. She is the moon in the sky, while you, you are mud on the ground."
