Chapter 281: Chapter 281: Didn’t You Already Know That My Judgment Is Poor?
For Cheng Zhiwei, seeing Zhou Lin was not a happy occasion.
So she just looked straight ahead, pretending not to hear.
When she had returned to Yucheng, she could still stay rational, thinking that Yucheng was so small, where one could hardly avoid running into others, there was no need to act like enemies.
After all, they had a child, so it was inevitable for them to see each other.
Maintaining a proper distance was enough.
However, Zhou Lin was just crazy. Even now, he still entertained the notions of a perfect family with children.
As if she, Cheng Zhiwei, had no temper at all.
"Even a dinner costs you money, and you fancy such a man? Has your taste worsened that much?" Zhou Lin was holding back his frustration, his words sharp and full of scorn.
Only then did Cheng Zhiwei look up at him, "That’s my business, and it has nothing to do with you."
"Zhiwei."
"Did you not already know that I have poor taste? Otherwise, I wouldn’t have fallen for you in the first place."
Zhou Lin understood the hidden meaning in her words, his complexion turning slightly ugly.
With his lips pressed into a straight line, he watched her quietly. So in her heart, was he even worse than that stingy man?
Just then, the blind date’s car stopped at the gate, the man glanced at Zhou Lin, then at Cheng Zhiwei, didn’t say much, just politely asked her, "Shall we go now?"
He thought she had another appointment.
"Okay," agreed Cheng Zhiwei, pulling open the door to get into the car.
The next second, Zhou Lin pulled her back out again.
The car door closed with a clang, and Zhou Lin said coldly, "She still has things to do. She can’t leave."
The man frowned, but did not leave immediately, "Miss Cheng, do you need me to call the police?"
His chivalrous demeanor made Zhou Lin look even worse.
Cheng Zhiwei looked up at Zhou Lin, "Zhou Lin, let go."
How could Zhou Lin possibly let go? He just sneered, "You can let him call the police, and see who will be in trouble."
Cheng Zhiwei frowned, her anger ready to burst, but she still had to restrain herself and only said to the man, "I’m sorry, you can go first."
The man looked at Zhou Lin again, concerned, "Are you sure you don’t need me to call the police?"
"Thank you, but no."
"Okay."
The car left.
Cheng Zhiwei shook off Zhou Lin’s hand, her anger visible on her face, finally unable to restrain herself, she scoffed, "Zhou Lin, is this never going to end with you?"
"Didn’t you already know? I am never going to stop."
"Why?" Cheng Zhiwei demanded coldly, "Do you think you can do whatever you want? Zhou Lin, you really haven’t changed at all, always only thinking about yourself."
Zhou Lin’s barely suppressed emotions flared up again, "You’re saying this because of that guy?"
He was just unhappy seeing that man letting Cheng Zhiwei pay; he was merely advising her to see clearly, yet when he spoke one sentence, she countered with ten.
"He and I had just met, and it’s already clear, it was I who invited him," spelled Cheng Zhiwei, "In my eyes, he’s much better than you."
The last sentence was like a sharp knife stabbing into Zhou Lin’s heart.
A chill appeared on his face.
"So you plan to marry through blind dates?"
"Why not? You wouldn’t think I’d stay stuck in that failed marriage forever, would you?" she smirked, her tone full of sarcasm.
Why should she?
She wasn’t going to dedicate her entire life to mourning a love that had once torn her apart, bringing her immense pain.
It was Zhou Lin who was trapped in the past, unable to extricate himself, not her, Cheng Zhiwei.
Her future life was her own to decide, she could remain single or get married.
It had nothing to do with Zhou Lin.
"Sister Zhiwei." A surprised voice came, breaking the tense atmosphere between Cheng Zhiwei and Zhou Lin.
Cheng Zhiwei controlled her emotions, turned her head, and her tone had already returned to normal, "Xiao Man."
Zhang Xiaoman, holding Zhou Ruoki’s hand, exclaimed excitedly, "Sister Zhiwei, it really is you, what are you doing here?"
Cheng Zhiwei’s gaze, however, quickly fell on Zhou Ruoki, who seemed not to be in good spirits after a few days apart.
"I came here to eat," she said indifferently.
"Have you eaten yet? If not, you can join us, we just arrived." Zhang Xiaoman’s eyes were curved, brimming with vitality.
"I have already eaten," Cheng Zhiwei nodded lightly, "What about you, why are you here?"
"My current job is to take care of Qiqi," Zhang Xiaoman said gently as she stroked Zhou Ruoki’s hair.
Cheng Zhiwei was surprised internally, she hadn’t expected her to work for the Zhou family as well.
"You guys go eat, I’ll be leaving soon." Cheng Zhiwei wouldn’t ask her why she wanted to work, she just wanted to leave quickly.
But just as she had taken a few steps, a sudden, earth-shattering cough erupted from behind her.
Cheng Zhiwei walked a few more steps, ultimately unable to hold back, and turned around, what she saw next startled her.
Zhou Ruoki was clutching his throat, his face contorted in pain, looking as if something was stuck in his throat.
Without thinking, she ran over and urgently asked, "What’s wrong?"
Zhou Lin’s expression was awful, "He’s choking on phlegm, I’m taking him to the hospital."
"There’s no time."
Zhou Ruoki’s face turned red, his condition looking dangerous.
Zhang Xiaoman stood helplessly in place, "What should we do, what should we do, Qiqi?"
Cheng Zhiwei immediately picked up Zhou Ruoki and patted his back, saying calmly, "Qiqi, don’t be scared, try to spit it out."
Zhou Ruoki’s face turned completely red, his fingers digging into Cheng Zhiwei’s arm, scratching it red.
But it was like Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t feel the pain, only holding him tightly from behind, helping him cough up the phlegm.
After a struggle, Zhou Ruoki managed to spit out the phlegm.
His condition worsened, nestling in Cheng Zhiwei’s arms, his little face pale, covered in tears.
"Mommy," he muttered unconsciously.
A wave of heartache surged in Cheng Zhiwei’s heart, reminding her of how frail Cheng Xing looked whenever he was ill.
Pitiful beyond words.
"Let’s go to the hospital," Zhou Lin called a driver over, "Give me the child."
Cheng Zhiwei didn’t hand over the child but instead couldn’t help but get angry, "If the child isn’t feeling well, why did you bring him out?"
He really didn’t know how to be a father.
Such a small child, constantly being shuffled around.
Zhou Lin withdrew his hand without explaining, "Yes, it’s my fault."
The more he spoke, the angrier Cheng Zhiwei became. She glared at him, "If you can’t take care of a child, then leave him at home where there is a nanny to look after him."
Zhang Xiaoman said awkwardly, "I’m sorry, Sister Zhiwei, I’ve never taken care of a child before, I didn’t know how to handle this, thank goodness you were here today."
Cheng Zhiwei was at a loss for words for a moment, as Zhou Ruoki’s care was now Zhang Xiaoman’s responsibility.
But she couldn’t really blame Zhang Xiaoman, she could only say, "I’m not talking about you."
It was Zhou Lin who was irresponsible.
If Zhou Lin needed someone to take care of Zhou Ruoki, he should have hired a professional nanny, not someone like Zhang Xiaoman who had not yet married or had children.
After all, with children, no issue is too small; if something goes wrong, it becomes a major issue.
