The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife
Chapter 273: He Has Great Responsibility

Chapter 273: Chapter 273: He Has Great Responsibility

"The child’s vitals all seem normal; it doesn’t look like an illness is causing this. Could he have been scared?"

Cheng Zhiwei touched Cheng Xing’s hair, which was already starting to sweat, "Mhm."

Zhang Yuanheng realized and admonished, "The child is still small, and it’s best not to lose your temper in front of him. Try to avoid arguing if you can."

He thought Cheng Zhiwei and Zhou Lin had argued and frightened the child.

"Understood." Cheng Zhiwei lowered her gaze, merely holding Cheng Xing a bit tighter.

Zhang Yuanheng arranged a hospital room so Cheng Zhiwei could let Cheng Xing rest there, which would also give her a break.

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t go, instead sitting on the sofa holding Cheng Xing.

She was afraid of startling Cheng Xing.

Zhou Lin felt unbearable heartache, especially seeing her pale and frail appearance, full of guilt. Cheng Xing’s fever was caused by being scared by Seo Zhenzhen at the Zhou Family’s home.

He bore a great deal of responsibility.

He wanted to help, but Cheng Zhiwei did not agree, saying faintly, "Thank you for bringing us to the hospital. It’s already very late; take the child and go back home."

She could tell that Zhou Ruoki was very dependent on Zhou Lin; the child was still looking eagerly at Zhou Lin the whole time, which sadly, Zhou Lin did not notice.

Zhou Lin glanced at the time, "No rush, after her drip is finished, I’ll take you both home."

Cheng Zhiwei stopped talking then; she had given her reminder, but whether Zhou Lin acted on it was his business.

After a while, Secretary Zhang came to find Zhou Lin, carrying documents. They talked about work matters and went out.

Cheng Yang sat obediently next to Cheng Zhiwei and asked softly, "Mom, why hasn’t Xingxing woken up yet?"

Cheng Zhiwei smiled softly, "No hurry. Once the drip is done, your sister will wake up."

"We are never going to that person’s house again," Cheng Yang pouted, clearly displeased.

"Okay."

While they were whispering, Zhou Ruoki walked over, stopped about a meter away, and tiptoed cautiously to look at Cheng Xing, full of concern in his eyes.

Cheng Zhiwei comforted him, "Qiqi, you sit for a while. Daddy will be back in a moment."

"Mom, don’t pay attention to him," Cheng Yang was displeased, stood up, and spread his arms to protect his mother and sister, "Zhou Ruoki, you’re not allowed to come to our house anymore."

A look of sadness flashed through Zhou Ruoki’s eyes. He hung his head sadly, his eyes red and on the verge of tears.

"Doctor Zhang." A familiar female voice came from outside the door, "Could you please check on my child for me?"

It was Xu Tian.

Before Cheng Zhiwei called out, He Yuming saw Cheng Yang and dashed over like a whirlwind, "Cheng Yang."

Cheng Yang lightened up as well, "He Yuming."

The two little tykes hugged each other, obviously good friends.

"Zhiwei, what happened to Xingxing?" Xu Tian saw Cheng Xing getting an injection and asked with concern.

"She’s got a bit of a fever."

The atmosphere suddenly became lively, and Zhou Ruoki couldn’t help but step back, realizing he seemed like an extra, unnoticed by anyone.

Just like countless times before.

Every time his parents argued, standing off to the side, he would clearly realize one thing—they didn’t love him.

Just when he couldn’t help but was about to cry, suddenly a gentle voice came, "Qiqi."

Zhou Ruoki abruptly looked up, directing his gaze across the room.

Cheng Zhiwei’s face was filled with a tender smile, her eyes curved as she looked at him, "What are you doing standing there? Come, take a seat. Don’t let Cheng Yang and the others bump into you."

Caught off guard by the sudden concern, Zhou Ruoki stood frozen.

He subconsciously walked towards her.

He had barely moved when his back was suddenly struck, and he fell forward onto the ground.

"Qiqi." Cheng Zhiwei’s worried voice came through.

Zhou Lin had just looked up when he heard an even louder voice, "Qiqi."

Before he could react, he was scooped up, "Qiqi, did you hurt anywhere when you fell?"

Zhou Ruoki looked up to see He Lanzhi.

He Lanzhi picked Zhou Ruoki up and, after carefully checking him and finding no issues, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Then her expression darkened as she looked to Cheng Yang and He Yuming, "What were you two running around for, knocking into someone?"

Cheng Yang immediately apologized, "I’m sorry."

He corrected his mistake as soon as he knew it.

He Yuming also apologized, "I’m sorry."

He Lanzhi mockingly criticized, "Making a racket in public, truly lacking in manners."

It was unclear whether she was scolding Cheng Yang or Zhou Ruoki.

Of course, it might have been both of them.

Xu Tian stood up and said, unpleased, "Is there an injury? Do you need a full check-up? I’ll pay for it."

Although she was angry at He Lanzhi for those words, since it was Cheng Yang and He Yuming who bumped into Zhou Ruoki, she was willing to take responsibility.

But because of He Lanzhi’s blatant concern for Zhou Ruoki, her tone was not good.

However, He Lanzhi misunderstood.

She sneered coldly, "Money, money, money, just because you have money, do you think you’re so impressive? Xu Tian, no matter how much you have, it’s the He family’s money, not like it’s all yours."

With so many people around, and moreover acquaintances, He Lanzhi didn’t give Xu Tian any face.

Xu Tian retorted without courtesy, "Even if it’s the He family’s, it’s not yours."

Unable to out-talk Xu Tian, He Lanzhi took her irritation out on He Yuming, "How can you not see someone standing right in front of you? Are you blind?"

He Yuming pursed his lips and stood there, not speaking anymore.

He had already apologized. Why did she still need to scold him?

Cheng Yang patted He Yuming’s shoulder and stepped forward, "It wasn’t He Yuming who bumped into him, it was me who accidentally did it, don’t scold He Yuming."

He Lanzhi didn’t like He Yuming, and she liked Cheng Yang even less, saying spitefully, "So young and already hurting others, truly living up to being Cheng Zhiwei’s son. What, do you think if you hurt him, your dad will want you now?"

"He Lanzhi," Cheng Zhiwei’s face darkened, "shut your mouth."

"What’s the matter? Are you afraid of what I’ll say? By the looks of it, your child is a bastard too..."

"He Lanzhi, are you sick, talking about this in front of children?" Xu Tian burst out, "What exactly are you good for?"

"She can do it, but can’t stand being talked about it."

"Mom, what is a bastard?" Cheng Yang curiously asked.

He was genuinely curious, without any other implications.

Xu Tian was so furious her face turned ashen, "He Lanzhi, have you forgotten why you came here today?"

He Lanzhi’s face stiffened; seeing Zhou Ruoki fall had upset her greatly and in her anger, she had forgotten the purpose of her visit that day.

Xu Tian called the two children over, had Cheng Yang sit next to Cheng Zhiwei, and handed He Yuming over to Zhang Yuanheng, "He’s been eating non-stop these past few days and not going to the bathroom, please help check on him."

Zhang Yuanheng quickly arranged for someone to take He Yuming for an examination.

He Lanzhi was still holding Zhou Ruoki, her hand clenched into a fist, "Xu Tian, what do you want?"

Xu Tian lifted her chin, speaking coldly, "Since you can’t deliver, naturally, the promise I made you is off."

"Why should it be?"
