The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife
Chapter 222 It’s Snowing, Zhou Lin

Chapter 222: Chapter 222 It’s Snowing, Zhou Lin

Zhou Lin cupped her cheeks and looked into her eyes, "I’m sorry, I was impatient."

He held her fingers and drank the sobering-up soup, then led her upstairs, "I’m going to the study."

"Okay," Cheng Zhiwei replied and headed to the master bedroom.

Cheng Zhiwei read until eleven o’clock and then fell asleep. In a daze, she felt the bed shift slightly followed by a warm body pressing close, pulling her into the embrace behind her.

Her body tensed, Cheng Zhiwei fought the urge to escape.

Zhou Lin’s hoarse voice reached her ear, "Don’t be afraid, I won’t touch you."

This was a promise, and Cheng Zhiwei’s stiff body slowly relaxed, her head nuzzling into the pillow, and she fell into a deep sleep.

Zhou Lin tightened his arm slightly, thinking about how she had liked him for so long, and even if she forgot, the emotions etched in her bones would sprout again.

But he hadn’t expected that, after three months, she was still unable to accept him, always indifferent, let alone any intimate contact between them.

Of course, he wasn’t a person driven by desires, requiring harmony in their marital relations, but every time he met her indifferent and distant eyes, he felt as though he had lost something vital, leaving his heart painfully bitter.

Cheng Zhiwei woke naturally to find herself alone. She sat bewildered in bed for a few minutes before noticing that the curtains had been drawn open.

Cloaked in silvery white.

It was snowing.

Cheng Zhiwei jumped out of bed, standing by the window with excitement, even pondering to push the window open to catch the fluttering snowflakes in her palm.

However, before she could open the window, it was quickly shut by someone.

Right after, she was lifted up and tucked back into the blankets, Zhou Lin stood by the bed frowning, his expression sour, "Don’t you know to put on clothes and shoes first?"

Cheng Zhiwei lay in the warm comfort of the bed, her eyes brighter than usual, her tone light and cheerful, "It’s snowing, Zhou Lin."

Suddenly Zhou Lin remembered one winter when it had snowed heavily, on the second day of the New Year, when the area downstairs was bustling vehemently, yet he had no desire to join in as every year was the same, with nothing but flattering and toadying.

While he was hiding under the blankets playing with his phone, someone suddenly flipped them open. About to curse, he looked up to meet a pair of innocent, clear eyes, and her excited voice, "Auntie Lin was right, there really was a brother hidden here."

Before Zhou Lin could ask anything, she was already clapping her hands joyously and jumping, "It’s snowing, brother."

He turned to look, seeing goose-feather-like snowflakes falling from the sky.

What did he say back then? Oh, he called her "silly" and chased her away.

That was the first time he met Cheng Zhiwei, a bit daft, a bit silly.

The memory was distant, but thinking about it now, it was still vivid.

"Yes, it’s snowing, and New Year is coming soon too," Zhou Lin smiled slightly, fetched some clothes from the wardrobe, "Do you want to go outside to see?"

"Yes, I do," Cheng Zhiwei threw back the covers to get out of bed, but seeing her pale legs showing beneath her nightgown, she quietly retracted them.

Zhou Lin, quite considerately, went out.

After changing, Cheng Zhiwei descended the stairs, finished her breakfast, and then stood quietly by the door, watching the snow.

Zhou Lin came out with a scarf for her, "Do you want to take a walk outside?"

"Yes, I do," Cheng Zhiwei agreed.

No matter what he said, she always answered "Yes, I do," as if without temper or mood.

Zhou Lin held her hand as they walked around the yard twice. She wasn’t physically strong, so he didn’t dare let her stay outside too long.

Cheng Zhiwei looked up lively, letting the snowflakes fall on her face, bringing a cool sensation.

"Zhou Lin, do you think this counts as us growing old together?"

Zhou Lin tightened her grip on her hand and whispered softly, "Yes."

...

The snow was falling heavily, causing quite a disruption.

Cheng Zhiwei was stuck on the road for an hour before she barely made it to the conference room. Upon entering, she immediately apologized, "Sorry, there was a traffic jam, and I’m late."

The woman opposite her said lightly, "Sorry, Miss Cheng, but we’ve already chosen someone else."

Cheng Zhiwei was stunned, "But hadn’t it been agreed upon initially?"

She had been recuperating at home for over two months, feeling like she was falling apart. She planned to pick up her old profession and after a long search online, finally got in touch with this studio. After the audition, they were satisfied and willing to let her sing the ending theme for an anime.

Today was for signing the contract.

"Miss Cheng, it’s our boss’s decision, I’m really sorry."

"Who did you choose?" Cheng Zhiwei asked.

No sooner had the words left her mouth than a voice came from the opposite corridor, "Miss Seo, a pleasure to work with you."

A familiar female voice responded, "A pleasure to work with you."

The woman standing beside Cheng Zhiwei then said, "That’s the singer our boss has decided to collaborate with. You should know her, Seo Zhenzhen. She’s quite popular online now, beautiful and with a lovely voice."

"Seo Zhenzhen?" Cheng Zhiwei thought of the words she hadn’t finished that night.

It was someone she knew.

"But I passed the audition," Cheng Zhiwei frowned and said, "If you were going to choose someone else, the least you could have done was to inform me in advance."

"What can we do when someone has the backing of the President of Zhou Group? Miss Cheng, perhaps try another studio. Your voice is lovely; we might collaborate another time."

"The president?" Cheng Zhiwei’s tone was steadier than even she expected.

"This Seo Zhenzhen has only been around for two months yet her fame has already surpassed many. She definitely has a powerful team behind her, that’s the kind of backing that can only come from someone with deep pockets."

"Isn’t he married?"

The woman lowered her voice, "Well, a man might have one at home but countless others outside. It’s normal."

Cheng Zhiwei lowered her gaze, thanked the woman, and left.

Sitting in the car, Cheng Zhiwei’s emotions fluctuated slightly. She found it absurd that Zhou Lin constantly claimed they were husband and wife while supporting a young star outside, yet she also felt it was expected, as if it had happened before.

"Young Madam, shall we go home?" the driver asked.

"To Zhou Group."

"Yes."

Cheng Zhiwei was angry and wanted to confront Zhou Lin, but once she arrived at the entrance of Zhou Group, she lost the desire to see him. Although she could probably reclaim her rightful slot by revealing her identity, something deep inside her seemed to stop her, telling her it was useless to ask, why should she humiliate herself for nothing?

Just as she was about to ask the driver to turn back, her car window was suddenly knocked on. She rolled down the window to see Secretary Zhang.

"Young Madam, what brings you here? Are you looking for President Zhou?"

Cheng Zhiwei, not wanting to admit she had come to confront Zhou Lin, lied, "I was planning to have lunch with him, but I suppose he’s busy..."

"He’s available, just a moment."
