The Temptation of CEO's Pregnant Ex-Wife -
Chapter 208 Time, Wrong
Chapter 208: Chapter 208 Time, Wrong
Originally, Cheng Zhiwei used to reside in the master bedroom while Zhou Lin, who seldom returned, stayed in the guest room. Now that Cheng Zhiwei had lost her memory, she insisted on not staying in the master bedroom, which had instead become his bedroom.
Many things from the master bedroom had been moved to the guest room. At a glance, it appeared emptier. There were many clothes in the wardrobe, but they hadn’t been touched for many days.
Cheng Zhiwei perfectly demonstrated how to be a good guest.
Cheng Zhiwei got up at six in the morning and tiptoed downstairs to the living room, planning to continue her work, only to find Zhou Lin was also there, on the phone, speaking in a very gentle tone.
"Don’t be afraid, I’ll be there soon."
"What did the doctor say?"
"Good."
Cheng Zhiwei stood quietly at the top of the stairs, thinking that the person on the other end of the phone must be someone he truly cared for; otherwise, why would he use such a tender tone?
He must really love his girlfriend.
Lost in thought, Zhou Lin had already looked up and saw her, saying indifferently, "Come down."
Cheng Zhiwei stuck out her tongue and went downstairs, explaining, "Sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop on your call. I just didn’t expect you to be here so early."
Zhou Lin didn’t speak, just frowned at her casually thrown on thin coat, which she had been wearing these past few days, "Your clothes..."
Cheng Zhiwei looked around, slightly embarrassed, "Don’t worry, they’re washed."
The washing machine at home was an all-in-one with a dryer, so after washing, she just wore them again.
"There are plenty of clothes in the room. If you don’t want to go in, just let Wang Mei fetch them for you," Zhou Lin said coolly, folding his cuffs and grabbing his car keys, preparing to leave.
Cheng Zhiwei quickly said, "Those clothes belong to your girlfriend, right? It’s better I don’t take them, to avoid upsetting her."
Zhou Lin raised an eyebrow. Girlfriend?
Cheng Zhiwei added, "If you are about to leave, I wonder if it’d be convenient to drop me off at my home. I need to fetch some clothes."
"Not convenient," Zhou Lin said very quickly.
Her parents were still in her hometown. How could he dare let her go back there?
He rejected her quickly and with a harsh tone, making Cheng Zhiwei feel somewhat embarrassed, "Sorry, I think I put you out of your way."
Zhou Lin slightly tilted his head, his expression somewhat indifferent, "I don’t have a girlfriend. Those clothes...you can wear them however you like."
After he said this, he left without looking back.
Cheng Zhiwei stood still, not quite understanding his meaning. He didn’t have a girlfriend, but there were women’s clothes in the room. Could they belong to an ex-girlfriend, which is why he was so indifferent?
This minor query was quickly dismissed from her mind as there were more pressing matters that needed her attention.
By noon, during her break, she looked at her own outfit and hesitated before deciding to go out and buy a few items of clothing and, while she was at it, a new phone.
Her phone had somehow become completely useless.
But since she had no cash on her, she had to go ask Wang Mei where her bank card and ID were located, as Wang Mei was the one taking care of her and should know.
Wang Mei went to the master bedroom to get Cheng Zweiwei’s ID and wallet and handed them to her.
"I’ll accompany you," Wang Mei said.
"Sure," Cheng Zhiwei agreed, and the two of them left.
The first thing they did when they went out was to buy a phone.
But upon seeing the phones, she was transfixed, staring intently.
"Madam, do you have any questions?" the salesperson asked enthusiastically. "There are a few more models here, would you like to take a look?"
Cheng Zhiwei looked around, set down what she was holding, and asked in confusion, "Are the dates on your phones inaccurate?"
Wang Mei’s face changed, and she subconsciously said, "Young Madam..."
The salesperson replied in surprise, "The date on the phone is very accurate. Today is November 15th, and it’s two in the afternoon. Look at my phone."
She took out her own phone, showed Cheng Zhiwei the time, and continued with a smile, "Our phones use the latest system, rest assured, there won’t be any instability with the time."
"But isn’t it 2019?" Cheng Zhiwei pointed at the time displayed on the phone screen, "Why does it say 2023?"
Wang Mei pulled Cheng Zhiwei away, "Miss Zhiwei, let me handle buying the phone. Let’s go to the supermarket to buy some groceries first, shall we?"
Cheng Zhiwei followed her movements and walked to the door, but then she suddenly stopped, looking up at the huge screen in front of her, which clearly displayed today’s date.
She stared blankly for a long time, then suddenly turned back into the phone store and casually pointed at a phone, saying, "I’ll take this one, swipe the card."
As she said this, she also took out her ID card, saying, "And issue me a new SIM card."
"Alright, please wait a moment."
Wang Mei silently followed beside Cheng Zhiwei. Everything at home that could display the date had either been replaced or removed, even Cheng Zhiwei’s phone and internet were deliberately arranged by Zhou Lin, just to prevent her from discovering the problem with the time.
But, how could it be kept a secret forever.
After all, they couldn’t keep Cheng Zhiwei trapped at home forever.
Thanks to Cheng Zhiwei being a person who cherished old things, over all these years, all her passwords had remained unchanged. Thus, as soon as she got the new phone, she immediately logged into her social media accounts.
Since it was a new phone, there were no chat histories when she logged into her account, so she didn’t know what had happened, but her contacts were still there.
However, from top to bottom, she couldn’t find Seo Zhenzhen’s contact info. Seo Zhenzhen was her best friend, and they were very close.
Eventually, she focused on one particular contact, a person named Xu Tian.
She knew this person, who was her fan and also a friend. Xu Tian was also a straightforward and generous person, a good choice if she needed information.
Without hesitation, she made a video call.
But just as the call was dialing out, her phone was suddenly snatched away, and the call was disconnected.
Cheng Zhiwei looked up and saw Zhou Lin, his expression somewhat cold, with hints of unease and agitation.
"Brother Zhou, what brings you here?" she greeted him with a forced smile, reaching for her phone again.
But Zhou Lin didn’t hand it back, just asking, "Bought a new phone?"
"Yes, my old phone broke, so I replaced it," Cheng Zhiwei answered honestly.
Zhou Lin looked at her smile, clearly wanting to ask him something but holding back, his mind busied by her question. His fingers loosened slightly and the phone almost slipped from his palm.
Cheng Zhiwei called out urgently, "Brother Zhou."
Zhou Lin clenched his hand just in time, catching the phone when it had slipped to a quarter of its length. Had he been a bit slower, the phone would have hit the ground and shattered.
Cheng Zhiwei’s heart, which had leaped into her throat, finally relaxed a bit as she stood there, lips pursed, looking down at her toes.
In front of Zhou Lin, she felt like she had done something wrong.
But what had she done wrong?
"Sorry, it slipped," Zhou Lin said as he handed her the phone back, "Get in the car, I’ll take you home."
