Chapter 169: Chapter 169: How Many Spare Tires Are You Planning to Keep?

"Third Uncle didn’t even say hello before bringing my people here, isn’t that too much?"

Zhou Hui curled her lips and raised her voice, "Are you sick, Zhou Lin? Grandpa just invited Cheng Zhiwei to visit, and here you are wanting to fight and kill immediately, truly lacking manners."

Zhou Lin wanted to speak, but Cheng Zhiwei gently tugged at his clothes, her voice soft, "Ah Lin, it’s okay, let’s go home."

Zhou Lin took her into his arms, kissed her forehead, his voice low and tender, "Okay."

They looked like a couple with great affection for each other.

But both knew very well that their affection at that moment was all pretend.

Zhou Jinzhong laughed quietly without changing his expression.

Cheng Zhiwei leaned in Zhou Lin’s arms, speaking softly, "Third Uncle, I think there may be some misunderstandings, Ah Lin and I are very much in love."

Zhou Hui sneered dismissively and was about to mock Cheng Zhiwei when Zhou Jinzhong already indifferently said, "If your relationship is good, that’s definitely for the best."

He clapped his hands, and someone brought up a wooden box from the garden.

Zhou Jinzhong said, "This gift is a wedding present from me, take it."

Cheng Zhiwei pursed her lips and looked to Zhou Lin, appearing somewhat humble as she gauged his reaction.

Zhou Lin nodded slightly, "Since it’s a gift from Third Uncle, we should accept it."

Cheng Zhiwei then took it, "Thank you, Third Uncle."

"Assuming Ah Lin is also busy, I won’t keep you for dinner." Zhou Jinzhong waved his hand, assisted by Zhou Hui as he entered the room.

Zhou Lin grasping Cheng Zhiwei’s hand, warned coldly, "I won’t press this matter this time, but if Third Uncle acts of his own accord again, don’t blame me for being ruthless."

Having said that, he pulled Cheng Zhiwei away briskly.

Zhou Hui clenched her teeth with resentment, "What’s he so arrogant about? If it weren’t for our great-grandfather leaving the estate to them, what would he amount to? And that Cheng Zhiwei is also useless."

Zhou Jinzhong frowned, he also hadn’t expected Cheng Zhiwei to be so malleable, treated that way by Zhou Lin and yet still obediently listening to him.

"But, Zhou Lin came here today, furious, which doesn’t seem like he dislikes Cheng Zhiwei. Could it be that our investigations were wrong all along, and Zhou Lin actually likes Cheng Zhiwei, just misleading us intentionally?" Zhou Hui analyzed in a jumble.

Zhou Jinzhong tapped his cane on the ground, a fierce glint flashing through his clouded eyes, "Not necessarily, we’ll know once we try."

Cheng Zhiwei wouldn’t be useful even as a prop, much less willingly take a hit for someone else.

Outside, as soon as they got into the car, Cheng Zhiwei immediately let go of Zhou Lin’s hand, as if he was some sort of virus.

Zhou Lin was displeased: "I came rushing over as soon as I got your call to save you, what is this attitude?"

Cheng Zhiwei expressionlessly tossed the box into his lap, "Isn’t this thanks to you?"

Zhou Lin looked at the jade bracelets, his eyes subtly shifting, his mood improving again, "This old man really went all out to win you over."

Cheng Zhiwei looked out the window, she had anticipated the dangers she might face from the moment she agreed with Zhou Chenyuan not to divorce, she had no regrets, but still she said, "Please, send my sister and my mom away, arrange someone to protect them."

Zhou Jinzhong was utterly unscrupulous, today he verbally threatened her using Cheng Zhiyin, who knows if he would go further next time.

She couldn’t gamble.

Zhou Lin looked at her somewhat surprised, "Don’t you think about yourself?"

Cheng Zhiwei leaned against the seat, her soft hair covering half of her side face, "You and I may lack affection, but legally we are still husband and wife, they won’t let me go."

So, escaping is pointless.

Zhou Lin was momentarily at a loss for words, not knowing whether it was irony or what, "You do have a way of looking at things."

"Drop me off ahead, I need to go to the studio," Cheng Zhiwei adjusted her mindset and said indifferently.

Zhou Lin instructed the driver to head to He Ye Studio, "From now on, no matter where you go, have the driver take you. Don’t go out alone."

"Understood."

When they arrived at He Ye’s studio, Cheng Zhiwei got out of the car without looking back and walked away.

Zhou Lin watched her, his gentle, deep eyes gradually growing cold, and his chest began to feel a bit stifled.

Cheng Zhiwei spent most of the day in the studio. With He Ye’s help, she tried to sing without wearing her hearing aid, finding a new balance between voice techniques.

But, it was too difficult.

Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t help feeling a bit discouraged, "It’s really too hard for me."

He Ye smiled and comforted her, "It’s only the first day, take it slowly."

The path was difficult, but she couldn’t give up.

"Go back and rest," He Ye stretched lazily, "Wen Ya is coming the day after tomorrow, and we’ll have dinner together."

Cheng Zhiwei instantly perked up, "Really?"

"The trailer has been made, and once the music is added, it can be released," He Ye moved his hand, seemingly wanting to pat her head but eventually refrained. "I’ll let you know."

"Mm."

After leaving the studio, Cheng Zhiwei went to the hospital before finally returning to Sparkling Sky City.

When she entered the door, the clock had just struck eight.

Zhou Lin looked up, his expression concealed with a cold glare, and his tone was rather harsh, "You still know to come back."

Cheng Zhiwei, unwilling to deal with his sudden sarcasm, changed her shoes and headed upstairs.

Zhou Lin’s expression darkened slightly; she seemed very nonchalant now. When it was time to pretend and play roles, she was capable of acting. But once the act was over, she would immediately change her face.

It was as if her past expressions of affection were all false.

This thought was peculiar yet it gripped Zhou Lin’s heart uncomfortably.

Half an hour later, he went to the study, ascended the stairs, turned towards the master bedroom, and stopped at the door. He heard her on the phone inside, her tone indifferent, "Liking him for over a dozen years, being despised and scorned by him, don’t I deserve to wake up and find someone new?"

She said it so casually, yet it was no joke.

"He has many people in his heart, but not me, so I gave up," Cheng Zhiwei joked, "Alright, alright, keep an eye out for me, just someone suitable will do."

Zhou Lin’s fists clenched abruptly, his joints creaking. They weren’t even married yet, and she was already thinking about finding someone else?

Her affection was cheap indeed.

Unable to control his emotions, Zhou Lin suddenly pushed the door open and said coldly, "Are you planning on finding a few spares?"

Cheng Zhiwei, who was chatting with Xu Tian, was startled and retorted irritably, "President Zhou eavesdropping, aren’t you ashamed?"

Zhou Lin simply walked in, stood in front of the lounge chair, and looked down at her with a chilling tone, "Aren’t Meng Qiancheng and He Ye enough for you to consider? Still planning to look outside? Want me to ask Secretary Zhang to place an ad for you?"

Cheng Zhiwei was just joking with Xu Tian, stood up, and defiantly met his gaze, "That would be perfect."

"Cheng Zhiwei, you’re not ashamed," Zhou Lin said with an angry laugh, suggesting she had long harbored such thoughts.

"Why should I feel ashamed?" Cheng Zhiwei smiled faintly, "We are merely in a cooperative relationship. I won’t interfere with how many ’sisters’ you keep outside, and you have no right to manage how many spares I have."
