Chapter 154: Without her husband’s love, everything is in vain

Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Without her husband’s love, everything is in vain

At the Zhou Group’s recent cocktail party, Zhou Chenyuan and Lin Yu had publicly announced Cheng Zhiwei’s identity as Zhou Lin’s wife, so the entire company recognized Cheng Zhiwei. Naturally, she couldn’t be neglected when she came here.

Whether Zhou Lin liked it or not, an identity acknowledged by the Zhou family was stronger than anything else.

Once they reached the President’s office, someone immediately came to attend to her. It was a very young woman who dressed and seemed like a student. She brought tea and snacks and said respectfully, "President Zhou is still in a meeting, please wait here for a moment."

"Thank you," Cheng Zhiwei nodded in thanks and sat on the sofa to wait for Zhou Lin.

She knew Zhou Lin was very busy, so she was prepared for however long she might have to wait.

However, she hadn’t expected to wait for several hours, until her phone had run out of battery. She couldn’t just rummage through Zhou Lin’s office, and ended up falling asleep on the sofa out of boredom.

Zhou Lin, having finished the meeting, hurried back to his office and instantly saw Cheng Zhiwei asleep on the sofa; his steps came to an abrupt halt.

Secretary Zhang caught up from behind. "President Zhou, the Young Madam came here three hours ago and has been waiting for you."

Three hours ago?

So, she had come right after receiving his call. She really was in a hurry for that divorce.

Zhou Lin sneered inwardly, his steps veering outwards as he said to Secretary Zhang, "Did Zhenzhen go for a check-up at the hospital today?"

Secretary Zhang was taken aback for a moment, cautiously glanced at the office, and said, "Miss Seo did indeed go for a check-up today to evaluate her surgery condition, but the Young Madam, she..."

"Go to the hospital," Zhou Lin ordered emotionlessly as he turned and walked away.

Secretary Zhang quietly shut the door and instructed the secretarial staff to take good care of Cheng Zhiwei before leaving.

About half an hour after Zhou Lin left, Cheng Zhiwei woke up. She looked up at the clock on the wall and realized she had slept for quite some time, feeling a bit confused.

She sat for a while, then opened the door and went out. The secretary who had previously attended to her immediately came over, "Young Madam."

"Is Zhou Lin still in a meeting?" Cheng Zhiwei asked.

The secretary glanced at Cheng Zhiwei’s expression and cautiously replied, "President Zhou had some matters to attend to and has already left."

Cheng Zhiwei lowered her eyes and simply responded with an "Oh," then asked the secretary for a charger and found a spot to charge her phone.

"Would you like to charge your phone inside the office?" the secretary asked.

Cheng Zhiwei wasn’t so formal, "If you don’t mind, I will just charge it at your station for a while, thank you."

The secretary was startled by her thankfulness and then said, "Will you have lunch? Shall I order something for you?"

It was already lunchtime, and everyone in the Secretarial Office had gone out to eat, leaving the office empty.

Cheng Zhiwei shook her head, "You go ahead, I’ll just charge my phone here for a while."

"I will be back soon."

At that moment, Cheng Zhiwei didn’t think too much about it. The previous business trip was supposed to last a week, but Zhou Lin had hurried back after three days to handle other matters; he was indeed very busy.

Right now, he probably had some urgent matter to attend to. Once her phone had some charge, she would ask Secretary Zhang when he would be back.

Getting the divorce papers was going to be a quick task anyway.

About twenty minutes or so later, the employees of the Secretarial Office began to trickle back from lunch.

She was about to grab her phone when she suddenly heard voices ahead, "Do you think it’s true that President Zhou and the Young Madam’s relationship is like the rumors say? That the Young Madam used some schemes to climb her way up?"

Cheng Zhiwei’s movements halted, and she sat frozen in place.

Someone chimed in, "I’ve heard it’s true. Otherwise, look at President Zhou. He just got to the office and when he saw her inside, he didn’t even enter."

Cackling laughter ensued, "I heard President Zhou had a true love and they were both ready to get married, but that woman drugged him, forced him to have relations with her, and then with a big belly, she stormed into the Zhou Family home causing a scene. That’s how she got her wish to marry in."

"With the Zhou Family being so wealthy, I’d want to marry in as the Young Madam too, but after all, we are people who have received higher education. We can’t do such shameless things."

"You’re saying she’s pregnant? But we haven’t heard anything about President Zhou having kids in these years, have we?" someone asked doubtfully.

"A child obtained through such despicable means would be a disgrace if born, who knows, maybe it simply didn’t want to be carried in her womb and naturally, it was lost," the person answered.

The woman’s voice was sharp and scornful, filled with endless mockery, "Besides, even if the child were born, not being loved by the father and with a mother like that, a child raised in such a twisted environment would be a menace."

"That’s true, it might turn out to be social dregs," another agreed.

Cheng Zhiwei sat there, her mind blank, feeling cold in her hands and feet.

Was it because that was such a shameful incident that she happened to trip that day, losing the child?

But if the child had been born, she would have loved him dearly; he wouldn’t have become social dregs.

They were spouting nonsense.

"What’s the use of marrying into a rich family if you can’t win your husband’s heart? Everything is hollow. Once the Chairman and his wife are gone, she’ll be kicked out on the street too."

"President Zhou doesn’t even want to look at her, instead, he went to the hospital to accompany Miss Seo for her checkup, clearly showing that Miss Seo is his true love."

"That’s why when she came just now, I had Xiao Hu, the new girl, receive her. Looking at how Xiao Hu was running around, fussing over her, it’s obvious she has just graduated and is not worldly."

"You’re so shrewd."

"I just can’t stand the sight of that kind of woman."

"What makeup have you been using recently? Your skin looks so tender..." The topic quickly shifted to cosmetics.

Cheng Zhiwei clenched her fists. It turned out that Zhou Lin didn’t have urgent matters to attend to, but had accompanied Seo Zhenzhen to the hospital.

He blamed her for bringing Meng Qiancheng to the Civil Affairs Bureau, affecting his mood, yet knowing she came here to find him, he left her hanging. What he did was just as bad.

"Young Madam? Are you feeling unwell? You look so pale," the secretary named Xiao Hu had already returned, asking with concern.

The chattering voices suddenly stopped.

Cheng Zhiwei forced herself to calm down, slowly lifted her head to see the young face before her, filled with innocent concern. She lifted her gaze to see the women not far away who had just been enthusiastically gossiping about her—their expensive cosmetics could not hide their hypocritical faces.

They were already standing up, looking at Cheng Zhiwei uneasily, devoid of their earlier enthusiasm for gossip.

Seconds later, someone walked over quickly, with an extremely respectful attitude, fawningly saying, "Young Madam, the newcomer doesn’t understand how things work. How could you be left here to rest? Let me take you to President Zhou’s office and order you some food."

While saying this, she scolded Xiao Hu, "How could you just leave the Young Madam here and go off to eat by yourself? Is this how I taught you to do things?"

Xiao Hu’s face turned pale, her lips quivering as she repeatedly apologized, "I’m sorry, Young Madam..."

Cheng Zhiwei could tell that this woman’s words implied a rebuke towards Xiao Hu for bringing her out and allowing her to overhear conversations that should not have been heard.
