Chapter 122: Chapter 122 Just finished the check-up at the hospital, and fell down as soon as I came out

Cheng Zhiwei was still holding on to some anger, as yesterday he had made her wait for many hours.

So, without even looking up, she asked in a flat tone, "Is there something?"

Wang Mei had already prepared breakfast for Cheng Zhiwei, and seeing Zhou Lin in the living room, she expressed her surprise, "Young master, you look pale. Did you not sleep well last night?"

Only then did Cheng Zhiwei shift her gaze from the TV to Zhou Lin’s face and noticed he looked very tired, his hair a disheveled mess, as if he had suffered some kind of blow.

But that had nothing to do with her, so Cheng Zhiwei lowered her head again, put down the remote, and turned to ask Wang Mei, "Is my breakfast ready?"

"Yes, it’s ready to eat. And so is Miss Zhiyin’s, I’ve already arranged for the driver to deliver it," Wang Mei reassured Cheng Zhiwei.

"Good, thank you for your hard work." Cheng Zhiwei slid off the sofa, her nightgown’s hem curling up, exposing her pale thighs to the air, unabashed, she padded in slippers towards the dining table.

Zhou Lin, seeming to think of something, with anger still not dissipated from his eyes, suddenly scooped her up in his arms, "It’s already autumn, and you’re still wearing so little, aren’t you afraid of catching a cold?"

His scolding was laced with a touch of surprising indulgence.

Cheng Zhiwei was startled, and thought she had heard wrong, but her body’s reaction was quicker than her mind, and she struggled out of Zhou Lin’s arms, her face not looking too good, "Zhou Lin, if you have something to say, say it, don’t get physical."

Zhou Lin’s fist clenched and then slowly unclenched, hands sliding into his pockets as he stood tall before her, frowning in dissatisfaction, "Go upstairs and change your clothes."

Why was it still the same as before, always fond of braving the cold?

Cheng Zhiwei had wanted to retort, but considering her current situation, she swallowed her words and replied indifferently, "I know," then went upstairs.

The quietness did not diminish the slow onset of sourness in Zhou Lin’s heart.

In his mind, he revisited the phone call from yesterday in the study, which was made to Guo Cuihua, concerning an old matter.

Guo Cuihua remained silent for a long time before saying, "You spent a night in the hotel together, you didn’t take precautions, and Zhiwei, being young, didn’t know to take the pill. She became pregnant, and had just completed an examination at the hospital. She fell as she was leaving, and that caused the miscarriage."

"Looking back now, if only you hadn’t agreed to get married then, Zhou Lin, you really can’t be considered a qualified husband."

A few light words were enough to churn a storm in Zhou Lin’s heart.

Though the accident with the child happened, Cheng Zhiwei could have easily used the hospital’s proof to demand more compensation, or even make unreasonable demands, which his parents would have agreed to.

Cheng Zhiwei never mentioned a word about it.

The Cheng family never mentioned a word about it.

In that moment, something began to crumble bit by bit inside him.

...

After changing into her casual clothes and having breakfast, Cheng Zhiwei was about to go see Cheng Zhiyin.

Zhou Lin picked up the car keys, "I’m going to the company, I’ll give you a ride on the way."

The hospital and the company were in opposite directions, Cheng Zhiwei knew that, but she still nodded lightly, "Okay."

In the drizzling autumn rain, her voice was soft and distant.

So obedient.

Zhou Lin dropped her off at the hospital and told her to wait there for him to come pick her up.

Cheng Zhiwei was silent for a few seconds, thought it over, and still called out to Zhou Lin as he was leaving, "If you’re busy, you can have Secretary Zhang give me a message, I can go back by myself. I’m a bit sensitive to the cold."

Zhou Lin knew Cheng Zhiwei was alluding to the incident from yesterday. He cleared his throat and said hoarsely, "Okay."

"Okay." Cheng Zhiwei turned and entered the hospital.

Hospital room.

When Cheng Zhiwei entered, Cheng Zhiyin was gazing out the window, her pale cheeks etched with a layer of sorrow and distress. She had lost more weight, her hair limp and draped over her shoulders, as if she had aged a great deal overnight.

The breakfast that had been delivered was still on the table, barely touched.

"Sis?" Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t help but call out softly, "What are you thinking about?"

Cheng Zhiyin suddenly snapped back to reality, a smile appearing on her face, "Zhiwei, you’re here."

"Are you okay?" Cheng Zhiwei always felt that something was off about Cheng Zhiyin.

"I... I’m fine." Cheng Zhiyin pursed her lips and gazed intently at Cheng Zhiwei, "I want some peace by myself, if you have nothing else, don’t come."

Cheng Zhiwei was startled. Was her sister trying to send her away?

"Sis."

"Zhiwei, leave." Cheng Zhiyin lowered her gaze, "I don’t want to see you, really."

Cheng Zhiwei stood still, dumbfounded. She hadn’t even sat down yet when she heard such words. She needed a reason, "Why?"

"Because Gao Wei’s mother is coming later, and she doesn’t like you, so I hope you will leave." Cheng Zhiyin suddenly looked up, the tenderness in her eyes replaced by a cold indifference, "I don’t want you here to affect the relationship between me and my mother-in-law."

Cheng Zhiwei was shocked. Mother-in-law?

She had clearly said she wanted a divorce just yesterday.

There was definitely a problem.

Cheng Zhiwei didn’t leave; instead, she took two steps forward, her eyes complex as she looked at Cheng Zhiyin, "Is Gao Wei threatening you? Does he have something on you?"

Other than that, Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t think of anything else.

Cheng Zhiyin looked down in embarrassment, never having been good at lying. At that moment, she could only desperately try to hold back, her fingers clenched tight on the blanket, "That’s not it. I just thought it over all night and felt it’s better not to divorce for now."

"What?" Cheng Zhiwei couldn’t accept such an answer. She paused to soften her tone, "What is Gao Wei threatening you with, photos or videos?"

"I said it’s not that." Cheng Zhiyin suddenly became agitated, her voice shrill and unpleasant, "Cheng Zhiwei, how many times do I have to tell you? Don’t come here anymore."

Cheng Zhiyin’s temperament was inherited from Guo Cuihua, gentle as water, so her outburst was extremely rare. Cheng Zhiwei was stunned for a couple of seconds, her lips pursed in embarrassment, but she still didn’t leave.

"Sis, if you don’t give me a reason, I won’t leave."

"Fine, I’ll give you a reason. The doctor said I can never have children again." Cheng Zhiyin clutched her face in pain, "If I get divorced, who do you think would marry me in this lifetime? Do you want me to be lonely forever?"

"That’s not it, Sis, it’s not like that." Cheng Zhiwei’s tone grew heavy as she pressed on aggressively, "You’re not that kind of person. What exactly happened?"

"Cheng Zhiwei, you married into a rich family, and even if you get divorced, you’ll receive a large sum of money and live without worries. But I’m different, without the marriage, I’ll have nothing." Cheng Zhiyin roared angrily, "How many times do I have to tell you, Cheng Zhiwei, mind your own business."

"But..."

"What’s all this racket." A commanding voice followed the sound of the door opening, "Aren’t you ashamed enough with what you’ve done? Must you let the whole world know by making such a fuss?"

The two sisters almost subconsciously exchanged glances.

Cheng Shang, looking weary from travel, was followed by Mother Gao,

"Dad." Cheng Zhiyin was the first to call out, glancing at Mother Gao, who looked smug, feeling full of loathing but still showing a respectful demeanor, "Mom, you’re here."

Cheng Zhiwei stood aside, her heart sinking fast, "Dad, how come you’re back?"
