This mission was downright absurd.

Shen Ge desperately wanted to know what happened next, but the system had once again left him hanging like a shameless cliffhanger.

Still, over the past few days, he’d managed to gather quite a bit of intel on supernatural entities from the logs.

First, nuclear weapons were useless against entities above Tier 7—in fact, those creatures could convert nuclear energy into supernatural energy, making them even stronger.

Even conventional missiles lost effectiveness against Tier 6 entities, which was why the higher-ups had developed specialized “Anti-Supernatural Missiles”. Unfortunately, these missiles failed to neutralize “The Formless” and instead led to half of Rong City being overrun.

In the aftermath, Shen Ge’s organization used the evacuation as an opportunity to merge with the official forces, relocating to the Quanlong Mountain Base.

Second, the “Fight Supernatural with Supernatural” initiative had gained traction. The U.S. became the first country to successfully eliminate a Tier 7 entity using this method.

Meanwhile, after the fall of Hiroshima, Japan had sent operatives to infiltrate Rong City, aiming to steal the corpse of a Tier 6 entity stored at the base.

The fact that they were willing to raid another country’s high-tier entity proved the plan had merit. Who knew the Americans would actually contribute something useful to the world for once?

Lastly, the Anti-Supernatural Special Ops Division actually wanted him to play the “honey trap” card—using the woman to infiltrate the Japanese group and turn the tables on them.

“Seriously, after screwing her over twice, she’d have to be a complete idiot to fall for it again,” Shen Ge muttered as he changed into his training gear and headed to the combat department.

After a week of brutal training, his stats had improved significantly:

[Shen Ge]

Rating: Tier 1

  • Strength: 103%

  • Agility: 101%

  • Constitution: 101%

  • Mental Fortitude: 200%

[Traits]

  • “Silent”

  • “Immobile”

  • “Formless”

[Abilities]

  • “Formless Eerie Domain”

[Equipment]

  • Cleaver (Trait: Unbreakable)

  • Black Gloves (Trait: Impermeable)

[System Points: 151]

[Unallocated Points: 8%]

Thanks to the training, his three physical attributes had not only reached the standard for an adult male but even exceeded them slightly.

While his special combat skills were still unpolished, his firearms proficiency had skyrocketed. He could now handle pistols and submachine guns with ease—even giving Xiao Qi a run for his money in AK recoil control.

Between hand-to-hand combat and guns, Shen Ge prioritized the latter.

After all, within seven steps, a gun is both faster and more accurate.

“Xiao Shen, we’re off tomorrow. Fancy a drink tonight?” Feng Chengxiu asked as he packed up the training equipment.

“Can’t. Got plans.” Shen Ge waved his phone and headed back to the dorm.

At noon, Cheng Shengnan had texted him to finally cash in on her “thank-you dinner” promise. Knowing Feng Chengxiu would inevitably drag him into a weekend drinking session, Shen Ge had accepted without hesitation.

Given the choice between getting wasted with a bunch of sweaty soldiers or getting wasted with a beautiful woman, the decision was a no-brainer.

“Oho, is it that girl you risked your life to save from the eerie space? Hero rescues damsel, damsel falls for hero—classic!”

“Must be nice being handsome. Free meals from beauties!”

“Meanwhile, the rest of us are stuck drinking with each other.”

A few of the soldiers who’d grown close to Shen Ge couldn’t resist teasing him as they passed by.

“Relax, if you guys ever get trapped, I won’t come for you,” Shen Ge shot back with a grin.

Amid the chorus of “traitor” and “women over bros” jeers, he returned to the dorm, showered, changed, and took a cab to Tianchuan Plaza, where Cheng Shengnan was waiting.

A few days earlier, after applying to relocate her company’s office, Cheng Shengnan had her assistant scout locations near Tianchuan Theater—just three blocks from the Anti-Supernatural Division.

Whether it made a difference or not, being closer to the division meant faster response times if something supernatural happened. She’d even considered selling her apartment to move into the area.

…..

“Where are you?” Shen Ge texted after getting out of the cab.

“Pedestrian street across from Tianchuan Plaza’s open-air tea garden.” Cheng Shengnan replied promptly, followed by a pin-drop precise location tag.

Shen Ge crossed the plaza and followed the directions, spotting her sitting on a bench by the grassy walkway, scrolling through her phone.

This was the first time he’d seen her not in her usual work attire. Even with sheer tights, her legs were impossible to ignore.

“You’re not working overtime? That’s suspicious. Did someone abuse their power to sneak out early?” Shen Ge teased as he approached.

Cheng Shengnan lowered her phone and glanced up. “Other than you, who in my company would dare to come late and leave early?”

“All thanks to having such an understanding boss.” He grinned. “So, what’s for dinner?”

“A friend recommended a new Western place. Supposedly great food with lots of repeat customers. Since you said you had no preference, I booked it.”

“Lead the way.”

They arrived at an opulent Western restaurant near the plaza. A waiter greeted them at the entrance: “Do you have a reservation?”

Cheng Shengnan nodded and showed her booking confirmation.

“Right this way.” The waiter escorted them to a window-side table.

The restaurant was spacious and elegantly decorated, already nearly full despite the early dinner hour.

[WARNING! Host is in a high-density supernatural activity zone! Multiple high-tier entities have detected your presence through acute olfactory senses! Flee immediately to preserve your life!]

Huh?

The system’s awake?

After absorbing “The Formless”, the system had lain dormant for seven days without triggering any special events—though all other functions worked fine. Shen Ge had wondered if it needed time to “digest” the entity.

Now that it was back online, he could resume his “street-roaming, division-carrying, leaderboard-topping” antics.

“Here are your menus.” The waiter handed them leather-bound booklets.

Cheng Shengnan noticed Shen Ge scanning the room. “What’s wrong?”

“Just admiring the ambiance,” he said casually—but he’d already identified the first two entities.

Pets weren’t allowed, but perched on a shelf near the register were two macaws (one blue, one red) that mechanically bobbed their heads and chirped “Welcome!” at every guest. No question, these two were supernatural.

But where were the others?

The system had warned of “multiple entities”, so there had to be more. Given the setting, the kitchen was probably stocked with supernatural “ingredients.”

As Shen Ge debated how to sneak a peek into the kitchen, Cheng Shengnan finished ordering: “I’ll have these. Same for him.”

“Thanks.” Saved the trouble, he handed his menu back.

“You seem distracted,” Cheng Shengnan observed.

“Well…”

“Wait.” She pinched the bridge of her nose. “Don’t tell me we’ve ‘won the lottery’ again.”

“Not that bad!” Shen Ge waved his hands. “Just… possibly adjacent.”

“…”

So wedidwin the lottery.

Cheng Shengnan sighed. “I should’ve just ordered takeout. What even is my life?”
