Chapter 821: Chapter 821: Banquet
Yan Family Mansion, though not large, was nevertheless heavily guarded.
Before the main gate, there stood a team of four guards, ramrod straight, and each possessed Cultivation at the Dao Spirit Realm.
As Jing Yan and Gao Feng approached, they were stopped by the guards.
One of the guards recognized Gao Feng. Back when Gao Feng was at the Yan family, this guard was one of their guards.
He led Jing Yan and Gao Feng inside the mansion compound.
Just as they entered the courtyard, an elderly man with completely white hair happened to walk by.
"Housekeeper, Miss Feng has returned," said the guard to the elder, saluting.
This elderly man was the Housekeeper of the Yan Family, quite advanced in age yet still sprightly.
"Grandpa Zhai!" Gao Feng called out excitedly upon seeing the elder.
"Miss Feng, is that really you?" Housekeeper Zhai gazed at Gao Feng.
"It’s me! Grandpa Zhai, you’ve aged quite a bit," Gao Feng’s eyes moistened slightly.
Back when she was at the Yan family, Housekeeper Zhai was very kind to Gao Feng, so she and her brother Gao Zhan both referred to him as Grandpa Zhai.
Gao Feng would never forget the way Grandpa Zhai would often slip them some Spirit Stones.
"It really is Miss Feng..." Housekeeper Zhai’s body trembled slightly, "It’s good you’re back, it’s good... Miss Feng, your departure lasted for over thirty years!"
After composing himself, Housekeeper Zhai looked toward Jing Yan, "And this young master is?"
"Good day, Grandpa Zhai, my name is Jing Yan, and I am Feng’er’s husband," Jing Yan too spoke kindly to Housekeeper Zhai.
Gauging the relationship between Gao Feng and Housekeeper Zhai, it was clear their bond was deep, so Jing Yan, like Gao Feng, called Housekeeper Zhai, Grandpa Zhai.
"Not bad, you’re a fine young man. But you lad, have hit the jackpot, being able to marry such a wonderful woman as Miss Feng," Housekeeper Zhai nodded and smiled at Jing Yan.
Gao Feng immediately blushed.
"Alright, alright, Miss Feng, let me take you to see the madam. If the madam knows you’re back, she’d be overjoyed. These years, the madam hasn’t stopped talking about you whenever she had the chance," continued Housekeeper Zhai.
The mansion was not large, and soon, the three of them arrived at an exquisitely small separate courtyard.
"So clumsy!"
"All thumbs – what on earth can you do, girl? Tell me, if you can’t even carry a cup of tea properly, what can you do?"
"I’m sorry... madam, I... it wasn’t on purpose!"
"Get out, you’re only adding to my annoyance!"
Sharp voices came from within the courtyard.
"It’s my aunt!" Gao Feng whispered upon hearing the voices inside.
Jing Yan smiled. Gao Feng’s aunt was indeed formidable. The three of them proceeded into the courtyard.
"Madam!" greeted Housekeeper Zhai to the ornately dressed woman in the courtyard.
Meanwhile, a servant dressed as a maid hurriedly scurried away from the courtyard.
The woman in the courtyard, who was Gao Feng’s aunt Gao Hui, bore some resemblance to Gao Feng, something Jing Yan noticed upon a brief observation.
"Housekeeper Zhai..." Gao Hui’s voice suddenly tightened.
In the next instant, her gaze landed on Gao Feng, her expression freezing, eyes filled with disbelief.
That Gao Feng, missing for over thirty years, had suddenly appeared before her; disbelief was natural. Honestly, Gao Hui had come to believe that Gao Feng and her brother Gao Zhan were long dead.
"Madam, Miss Feng has returned," Housekeeper Zhai repeated.
After saying this, Housekeeper Zhai quietly exited.
"Xiao Feng, is it really you?" Gao Hui spoke softly.
"Aunt, I’ve come to see you," said Gao Feng as she approached Gao Hui with a slight smile on her face, "After all this time, aunt still looks so young and beautiful."
"You naughty girl, stop with the flattery! Humph, you actually remember to return?" Gao Hui immediately flared up, "Ah? Tell me, where have you been all these years? And what about your elder brother? Where is that scoundrel Gao Zhan? He should show himself right away!"
However, there was clearly no malice in her words, as tears filled her eyes and she clasped Gao Feng’s hands tightly.
"My elder brother didn’t come back this time," Gao Feng said with a pout.
"Didn’t come back? He’s not dead, is he? Where is he? That heartless boy, running away from home with his sister. You tell me where he is, and I’ll make sure to give him a good thrashing when I find him," Gao Hui spoke rapidly.
Then, her gaze shifted to Jing Yan.
"Xiao Feng, who is this?" Gao Hui frowned and looked at Jing Yan.
"Good day, aunt, I am Jing Yan, Feng’er’s husband," Jing Yan quickly spoke while sweating profusely.
"..." Gao Hui stared sharply at Jing Yan, then turned her gaze back to Gao Feng.
"It’s good you’re back! Xiao Feng, this time you’ve returned, you can’t leave again. And also, have your brother come back soon! Your disappearance, so sudden and without a trace, think about it – if anything had happened, how would I explain to your father?" Gao Hui patted Gao Feng’s palm firmly.
Gao Feng glanced at Jing Yan, her brows knitted tightly.
Jing Yan felt helpless, watching on. Even though he was known throughout the Continent as the Holy Hall Master and the Hierarch of the Glory Alliance, in this moment, he didn’t know what to say.
"Housekeeper Zhai! Quickly go to the trade association and call master back!" Gao Hui shouted.
"Yes!" Housekeeper Zhai’s voice came from outside the courtyard.
Subsequently, Gao Hui invited Gao Feng and Jing Yan to sit down inside a room in the courtyard, where she began to inquire about how Gao Feng had spent the previous years.
As for Jing Yan, he seemed to have been completely ignored.
Jing Yan could tell that Gao Feng’s aunt seemed a bit dissatisfied with him. Perhaps out of consideration for Gao Feng’s feelings, she had not made it explicitly clear.
As they chatted idly, time flew swiftly and it was evening before Yan Zhuang, Gao Feng’s uncle, rushed into the courtyard.
Yan Zhuang seemed reserved, exuding an aura of restraint. He showed more politeness towards Jing Yan than Gao Hui had.
"Xiao Feng, when you left without a word, you worried your aunt a great deal. We searched long for you, but with no news, we feared that you and your brother were no longer in this world. You and your brother should not have left. If it was something we did that you were unhappy with, you should have discussed it with us, why leave so abruptly?" Yan Zhuang spoke in a low voice.
"I was young and foolish, and I caused you and aunt much worry," Gao Feng said with a slight nod.
"What’s past is past. It’s good that you’ve come back!" Gao Hui glared at Yan Zhuang.
"Heh," Yan Zhuang chuckled.
"Master, madam, the dinner has been prepared," Housekeeper Zhai announced as he entered.
