Chapter 656 - 666: Jing Yan Is Not Dead
Chapter 656: Chapter 666: Jing Yan Is Not Dead
Of course, for these adventurers, if they had the chance to kill a few Jing Family Disciples in exchange for a large number of Spirit Stones, most of them would not refuse. Who wouldn’t want more resources?
But the death of the three bearded men was too shocking; they had no idea why the trio had perished.
At this point, Jing Yan asked if anyone wanted to try to kill him, but no one dared to stand up, let alone lay a hand on him.
"Very well!"
"Since none of you are going to kill me, a member of the Jing Family, then I should be leaving."
"By the way, I heard you mention that Donglin City has been restricting the entry of unfamiliar adventurers, affecting your supplies. Now I want to tell you, that you will be able to freely enter and exit Donglin City shortly." Jing Yan was about to leave the tavern when he paused and added one more thing.
After leaving these words behind, Jing Yan walked out of the tavern.
"What?"
"What did that man mean by that?"
"Is the restriction on Donglin City about to be lifted?"
"Who exactly was that man?"
After Jing Yan left, the tavern recovered its noisy atmosphere, with various discussions echoing back and forth. Soon, some people came forward to check on the conditions of the bearded trio, confirming that they had indeed died.
But what startled them even more,
was that after a careful examination of the bodies, they couldn’t find any injuries. And it didn’t seem like the men died from poisoning either. So how exactly did the trio die?
Of course, they had no way of knowing that the cause of death for the bearded trio was due to their Divine Souls being completely annihilated.
Jing Yan’s Divine Soul was so powerful that it was almost tangible. In his fury, his Divine Soul burst forth and instantly overwhelmed the three men. With their Divine Soul Strength, they couldn’t withstand the assault and had their souls wiped out on the spot.
There were no wounds on their bodies, but with their Divine Souls wiped out, how could they possibly survive?
The most important thing for a Martial Artist is the Divine Soul, followed by the Fog Vortex. If there’s a problem with the Fog Vortex, a Martial Artist will generally only lose their Cultivation. But without the Divine Soul, death is certain.
Annihilating the Divine Soul is intangible and shadowless, almost akin to killing someone with a glance.
"Do you think... that man’s statement about Donglin City soon lifting the ban is true?"
"How could that be! If adventurers were freely allowed into Donglin City, would the Jing Family have any way to survive? I have reliable information that on the entire Continent, not counting those temporary teams hunting down Jing Family Disciples, there are at least hundreds of assassins from the Dark Night Organization active around Donglin City!" someone immediately shook their head in denial.
"You have a point there!" the previous person nodded, agreeing deeply.
Jing Yan left Black Stone Town, quickly making his way toward Donglin City.
Although Donglin City was heavily guarded and did not allow unfamiliar adventurers into the city, general adventurers indeed could not sneak in.
But such a blockade was utterly useless against Jing Yan.
Unbeknownst to gods or ghosts, Jing Yan had already made his way into the city, directly to the City Lord Mansion.
At that moment, Jing Yan was not in the mood to have the mansion guards notify Jing Tianying. With a blink of his form, he entered the City Lord Mansion and, releasing his Divine Soul, located Jing Tianying in the blink of an eye.
Jing Tianying and some Jing Family members were sitting in a room in the mansion, all wearing worried expressions.
"How much longer can our Jing Family hold on like this?" an elder of the Jing Family sighed.
"In these past few years, the death toll among Jing Family Disciples has been extremely high. Even though we’ve given up many of our external properties, we still cannot avoid assassinations," another elder said.
"Sigh, just in this last week alone, over five Jing Family Disciples have been assassinated. Though they were all from the Postnatal Realm, some of them were promising youths with great potential."
"City Lord, could we ask the Prince to send some more Guards over?" the Jing Family’s Second Elder looked at Jing Tianying and said.
Jing Tianying pondered for a moment, "That’s not likely!"
"The support that the Prince has provided our Jing Family has already reached its limit. There are already thousands of guards from the Prince Manor stationed here in Donglin City."
"If I request more, it will only make things difficult for the Prince. Moreover, the Prince also has to protect our Jing Family branches in Lanqu County City."
"Elders, for the time being, we can only rely on ourselves. Try... to keep the family disciples from going out," Jing Tianying said bleakly, shaking his head.
"Yes, the Prince has already gone above and beyond for our Jing Family."
"It is said that the Prince’s daughter has been missing for over ten years and has yet to be found."
"Our relationship with the Prince was good, but Jing Yan has been gone for so long, and the Prince still offers such protection to the Jing Family. What more can we ask for?"
Everyone expressed their lament.
"Damn the Gai Family!"
"The Gai Family wants to destroy our Jing Family. Though they have some reservations and can’t act against us openly, their power is too strong, even using some minor methods can bring our Jing Family into gradual decline. Damn the Dark Night; they really are everywhere!"
"..."
Under the cover of Jing Yan’s Divine Soul, he saw and heard everything Jing Tianying and the others discussed clearly.
"Bai Xue City Lord has gone missing?" Jing Yan frowned.
Immediately, he activated his Sky Wings and in the blink of an eye, entered the room where Jing Tianying and the others were.
Jing Tianying and the others were in the midst of discussion when they suddenly realized that there was an extra figure in the room.
This scared them considerably.
The figure had appeared without any warning; they hadn’t even seen how the figure came in from outside. It was as if the person had materialized out of thin air.
Their faces turned pale as they all quickly stood up, Primordial Energy coursing through their bodies, staring in shock at the new figure in the room.
"Jin... Jing Yan?"
Shortly afterward, they saw the visage of the figure.
"That’s not right! Jing Yan died in the Despair Abyss; who the hell are you?" Jing Tianying roared angrily.
The man before them looked just like Jing Yan.
But Jing Yan had perished in the Despair Abyss, witnessed by many of the Continent’s Peak Strong People. Jing Yan couldn’t possibly still be alive.
So who was this person standing before them now, bearing Jing Yan’s appearance?
Jing Tianying and the others’ guard did not waver.
"Fourth Elder, you don’t recognize me anymore?" Jing Yan also sighed sorrowfully.
When Jing Yan spoke up, Jing Tianying and the others were once again stunned.
The appearance was the same, even the voice was the same, along with the demeanor and mannerisms, all just like the Jing Yan they remembered.
"You... Are you really Jing Yan?" the Second Elder asked, astonished.
"Second Elder, there’s no need to doubt; I am not dead. Although I was trapped in the Despair Abyss for eleven years, I am indeed alive." Jing Yan looked at the Jing Family’s Second Elder and said with a bitter smile.
