Chapter 644 Divine Palace Guards
Chapter 644: Chapter 644 Divine Palace Guards
Reached the bottom of the Death Abyss?
After a brief moment of distraction, Jing Yan’s first reaction was that the Qiankun Small World had arrived at the bottom of the Death Abyss on its own.
In these seven years, he had countless times sent out a strand of his Divine Soul to check on the outside world, only for it to be annihilated instantly every time. The sudden change truly caught Jing Yan unprepared.
"It’s pitch black!"
"How deep is the Death Abyss exactly?"
"Can not even a glint of light penetrate here?"
Once a small amount of his Divine Soul didn’t get annihilated, Jing Yan began to send out more of his Divine Soul to investigate the surroundings. With the Qiankun Small World as the center, his Divine Soul radiated outwards in every direction.
There was no light in the space around him. However, Jing Yan’s Divine Soul could sense the condition of the area enveloped by it, and corresponding images of the environment formed naturally in his mind.
"Senior, it seems we have come to the bottom of the Death Abyss," Jing Yan suppressed the excitement in his heart and looked towards Tianshui.
"Ah, we must have reached the bottom of the Death Abyss," Tianshui nodded, sensing the raging forces outside.
"Senior, do you think I would encounter any danger if I were to leave the Qiankun Small World now?" Jing Yan asked hesitantly.
Although he was now a martial artist at the peak of the Daoist King Realm, Jing Yan still dared not be careless within the Death Abyss. Even Peak Martial Artists of the Saint Realm would barely survive here.
"That... I’m not clear on."
"Though I’ve entered the Death Abyss before, it was during an open state back then, and there wasn’t much danger around the periphery of the Death Temple at the bottom. Who knows what the situation is now, the Death Temple is currently closed." Tianshui shook his head, indicating he was as clueless as Jing Yan.
Jing Yan wasn’t too disappointed, as he had anticipated that Tianshui might not be familiar with the Death Abyss either.
In the end, he could only rely on himself.
Jing Yan didn’t rush to leave the Qiankun Small World and instead focused on releasing his Divine Soul to cautiously explore the outside.
"It seems I could go out and take a look," Jing Yan murmured to himself after a while.
"Hmm. For now, it seems that the kind of deathly aura capable of annihilating the Divine Soul doesn’t exist at the bottom of the Death Abyss. And the space here seems relatively stable," Tianshui analyzed, "Even though your realm is not very high right now, if you encounter danger, you should be able to enter the Qiankun Small World immediately to escape."
"Okay, I’ll go out and take a look," Jing Yan nodded.
Since he had reached the bottom of the Death Abyss, simply hiding within the Qiankun Small World was no solution.
Given any chance to leave the Death Abyss, Jing Yan certainly wouldn’t be willing to stay here and wait another sixty-plus years. The next opening of the Death Abyss would take another sixty years.
In a flash, Jing Yan stepped out of the Qiankun Small World.
The situation was almost identical to what his Divine Soul had sensed.
There was not a single ray of light in this space. However, with his cultivation, Jing Yan could see everything clearly within a few hundred meters.
Beneath his feet lay countless pieces of broken stones and sand.
It was dead silent around, apart from the sound of his own breathing, Jing Yan could hear nothing else. It seemed as if even wind didn’t exist here.
Jing Yan also noticed that there seemed to be no plant life whatsoever; at least, within his field of vision, he found no trace of vegetation.
"Senior, where is the Death Temple located?" Jing Yan inquired to Tianshui inside the Qiankun Small World.
"I’m not sure either. When the Death Abyss was open, there was light at the bottom, making it much easier to explore. Now, only being able to see a few hundred meters, it’s hard to determine any direction. It looks like we’ll just have to rely on luck," Tianshui gave another helpless answer to Jing Yan.
"Alright, I’ll look around first," Jing Yan shook his head with a wry smile.
He chose a direction at random and moved slowly. Jing Yan dared not move too quickly in this unknown environment; being cautious was never a mistake.
And in case of any danger, Jing Yan would enter the Qiankun Small World immediately to avoid it.
The sturdiness of the Qiankun Small World was undoubtedly confirmed; during its descent, it had withstood countless spatial collapses unscathed, proving its resilience.
Jing Yan, moved at a snail’s pace.
Within the veil of darkness, a massive black shadow was lying dormant in a place.
It looked as if it were a terrifying giant beast.
But upon closer inspection, one would realize that it was actually a building. A building all black, its shape resembling a giant wild beast.
If Tianshui were to see this building now, he would recognize it as the Death Temple.
Before the Death Temple at this moment.
"Swish!"
A dark figure suddenly appeared, its gaze fixated in one direction.
"This is getting interesting!"
"Human? No, not entirely human aura!"
"They seem very weak!" the black figure muttered to itself.
"Old Seven, what have you discovered?" Out of the blue, another shadow flashed into existence beside the first black figure and asked.
"Old Six, can’t you check it out yourself?" the shadow known as Old Seven replied with an impatient tone, seemingly unwilling to converse further with Old Six.
"Eh? Is it a human?"
"How can a human enter the Death Abyss? This isn’t the time when the Divine Hall is open! Something’s not right, this little one is so frail! Let me see... it seems to be just at the Daoist King Realm level of cultivation, how did they get past the death aura and spatial tearing?" Old Six exclaimed in surprise.
"How interesting! This is interesting!" Old Six nodded, appearing to be very intrigued by the human who had intruded into the Death Abyss.
"Old Seven, how about you give me this human? We’ve been guarding the Death Temple here for tens of thousands of years, and it’s not easy to encounter a human," Old Six said to Old Seven with a pleading tone.
"That won’t do! This one’s mine!" Old Seven refused outright.
"Old Seven, I’m lonely!" Old Six wailed.
"You think I’m not lonely? It’s not easy for someone to finally come by, and no, I must have my fun with this one!" Old Seven waved his arm, seemingly trying to shoo away an annoying elder.
"Old Seven, you’re being unreasonable! After all, I’m your Sixth Brother, am I not? Do you have to treat me with such an attitude?" Old Six pretended to be upset.
"Sixth Brother?"
"Hmph! I hate this about you most, always using your status as Sixth Brother to pressure me! Don’t forget, you and I were almost created by our master at the same time. Do you understand? Created at the same time, what gives you the right to make me call you Sixth Brother?" Old Seven gritted his teeth in frustration.
"Old Seven, whether you acknowledge it or not, I am your Sixth Brother. I may have been created by our master just a bit earlier than you, but that’s still earlier. I am Old Six, and you are Old Seven!" Old Six insisted.
"Huff... huff..." Old Seven stopped talking, but his breathing grew heavier.
"Alright, alright, if you don’t want to call me Sixth Brother, then don’t. Anyway, you hardly ever did in the past several tens of thousands of years. But you can’t drive me away. Even if you don’t want to give me that person to play with, I still want to stay and see how you play," Old Six conceded.
"Hmph!" Old Seven let out a cold huff but didn’t try to drive Old Six away again.
"Swoosh!"
At that moment, Old Seven waved his arm again, and a bizarre ripple spread through the space.
The ground hundreds of meters ahead cracked open swiftly.
"Thump thump thump!"
A heavy sound emanated from the fissures. The whole earth was trembling.
After a moment, several figures emerged from the cracks. There were five of them, each holding a uniform black weapon that looked like a gleaming axe.
The five shadows stepped out of the ground fissures, glanced at where Old Six and Old Seven were, and then turned around.
"Boom!" They suddenly accelerated and dashed forward at an incredibly fast speed.
"Old Seven, you’re just sending out Copper Armor Guards?" Old Six frowned.
"The Copper Armor Guards are enough. Didn’t you also say that person only has the Cultivation of the Dao King Realm? He might not even be able to defeat a single Copper Armor Guard, and I dispatched as many as five of them, which is more than sufficient," Old Seven sneered.
"That’s true! If you had sent out Silver-armored Guards right away, you might have just killed the kid outright, and that wouldn’t be fun. Although, he has to be killed eventually, it’s good to have a bit of fun first," Old Six laughed.
At this time, Jing Yan was carefully walking and observing the surroundings.
"Hmm?"
Jing Yan’s brows furrowed.
He concentrated his gaze and looked at the ground.
He felt a slight tremor on the ground.
"Not good, it seems like something is approaching me," Jing Yan quickly concluded.
He not only surmised that something was approaching him but also that it was doing so at an extremely fast pace because the ground tremors were becoming more and more pronounced.
"What in the world could it be? It seems quite heavy!" Jing Yan stimulated his Primordial Energy, carefully looking in one direction, readying his defenses.
If the situation turned dire and he found himself unable to cope, he would take refuge in the Qiankun Ring. Though the Qiankun Ring might be discovered by the enemy, if his life was in danger, he would have to enter the Qiankun Small World.
Jing Yan had barely waited any time before he locked onto five formidable presences.
Although he couldn’t see them with the naked eye, in this place devoid of light, his Divine Soul wasn’t affected.
"What on earth are these things?" Jing Yan’s eyebrows knitted tightly.
"Puppets?" After a short breath, Jing Yan could see the things that appeared within his line of sight.
Having clashed with puppets in the Lingluo Cave Mansion, Jing Yan was not unfamiliar with them. Upon noticing that the five shadows were swiftly sprinting over, Jing Yan roughly recognized that they were puppets or at least something similar.
"Zip!"
"Hiss!"
"Boom!" After identifying the five figures, Jing Yan drew his Dao Artifact Longsword and unleashed the sword light, striking at the opponents.
The five shadows charged fiercely, obviously hostile; Jing Yan couldn’t just stand by and wait to be killed by them. Besides, striking first would allow him to gauge the puppets’ strength and decide sooner whether he needed to seek refuge in the Qiankun Small World.
Jing Yan, with his Peak Dao King Realm Cultivation, brandished his sword, and the power was terrifying. An ordinary Dao King Realm Martial Artist couldn’t withstand even a casual strike from Jing Yan.
The terrible Power swept towards the five puppets.
A series of muted sounds followed.
The forward charge of the five puppets was halted completely. Under the massive force, all five puppets staggered backward.
But the retreat was merely a brief two-step shuffle. After that, all five puppets raised their axes and charged at Jing Yan again with murderous intent.
"It’s alright, it’s alright!"
"They don’t seem too strong. I should be able to have a fight with these five puppets," Jing Yan relaxed a little after testing with a sword strike and with a focused look, he took the initiative to charge at the five puppets.
"Boom!"
"Crack crack crack!"
In an instant, Jing Yan was hand-to-hand with the five puppets.
As Jing Yan had surmised, the five puppets were indeed strong, and the materials used to craft them were extremely sturdy; Jing Yan’s assaults could only leave a noticeable mark on the puppets if he directly struck their bodies.
The five puppets all possessed the Combat Power of Peak Dao King Realm.
"Exhilarating!"
"This is the thrill of a full-fledged battle!" Jing Yan’s figure shuttled continuously among the five puppets.
Having trained within the Qiankun Small World for these seven years, although his strength had greatly increased, there was no one for Jing Yan to spar with to accurately assess the progress of his Cultivation.
Now, these five puppets provided Jing Yan with an ample opportunity to thoroughly comprehend his own power.
However, in the midst of the battle with the five puppets, Jing Yan reserved many of his techniques. He didn’t know whether the puppets were controlled by someone behind the scenes. If the puppets were controlled, and there were Human Clan Martial Artists or Divine Race people behind them, then Jing Yan needed to conserve his strength and not reveal all his techniques.
"Eh?"
"This kid’s got some decent strength!"
"To be able to fight evenly with your five Copper Armor Guards with just Dao King Realm Cultivation, tsk tsk..."
"Old Seven, it seems like if you only want to use those five Copper Armor Guards against the kid, it might be tricky!" Old Six smacked his lips, looking at Old Seven and speaking with schadenfreude.
"Hmph, I have eyes and I have seen it myself. Do I need you to point it out?" Old Seven coldly snorted.
Seeing the skirmish between the five Copper Armor Guards and Jing Yan, Old Seven naturally knew that using the Copper Armor Guards to deal with Jing Yan would be difficult. He hadn’t expected Jing Yan, who appeared to have only Dao King Realm Cultivation, to be able to confront the five Copper Armor Guards head-on.
However, the Copper Armor Guards had one advantage: as puppets, as long as they had sufficient energy, they could sustain the battle indefinitely. Normal injuries were meaningless to puppets.
Could that kid fight tirelessly as well? Could his Primordial Energy be endless? Clearly, that was impossible!
Once the kid exhausted too much Primordial Energy, the five Copper Armor Guards could capture him.
So although for the moment it seemed that the five Copper Armor Guards couldn’t do much against the kid, Old Seven wasn’t worried; everything was under his control.
