Chapter 99: Chapter 99 The "Heartless" He Tiantian_1

This time, my daughter was reported because someone fancied her beauty. She didn’t reciprocate, so they started retaliating against her!

If this had been before, He Tiantian would be scared, but now she has the Snake King, and she’s not afraid at all!

"It’s okay, the most important thing is justice. As long as I do my job well, Qijia Village isn’t a place ruled by just one person’s word. I will take care of myself, so don’t worry," He Tiantian reassured, hoping to console her father.

"Ah, I hope so. Just take good care of yourself," He Jingyu said with relief. His daughter had grown up and become sensible. Only, he had not been the one to guide her through this phase of her growth, which made him feel a profound sense of loss as a father.

"I will, Dad," He Tiantian promised, pouring wine for Huo Zhekun and He Jingyu, "Let’s drink, let’s drink!"

"Here, Old He, let’s have a drink," Huo Zhekun lifted his glass and took a sip. He had wanted to drink earlier but there hadn’t been any suitable accompaniments, making drinking rather dull.

Today, with both meat and vegetables available, it was time to truly enjoy.

In the evening, Jiang Lifang returned from the hospital, and both families had dinner together. This time, however, it was at the Huo Family, with the rabbit meat provided by He Tiantian.

Wang Shuping was generous too. She straightforwardly gave Jiang Lifang two dried wild rabbits and chickens. Jiang Lifang initially felt embarrassed to accept, but Wang Shuping insisted, persuading them to take it.

"Ah, we eat so well at home, I wonder if Yingjie can have such good food at his unit." A mother worries a thousand miles away. Seeing He Tiantian return reminded Jiang Lifang of her own son. Whenever she ate something delicious, she wished her son could have it too.

He Tiantian felt awkward, suddenly realizing how thoughtless she had been. Huo Yingjie had given her grain coupons and money, yet she hadn’t thought to send anything to him.

Now that she knew, she didn’t have anything left in the Barrier Space to send. She could only wait until she got back to Qijia Village to see if she could get some more to send to Huo Yingjie.

"That’s nothing. I have another two left. I’ll send them to Yingjie so he can have some too. After all, he’s young and growing, which makes him hungry easily," Wang Shuping had already regarded Huo Yingjie as her future son-in-law. She only had one daughter, so her future son-in-law was as good as half a son, and she would naturally want to support them for the rest of their lives. Treating Huo Yingjie well was only reasonable.

"How can that be right? You’ve already given me two. I’ll keep one and send a rabbit and a dried chicken to Yingjie," Jiang Lifang said from within, her face heating up. She hadn’t had any intention of asking Wang Shuping for more when she made that remark; it was more of an instinctive sigh.

Wang Shuping smiled and said, "Yours is yours to send, and mine is mine. Just accept it."

Seeing Wang Shuping say this, Jiang Lifang could no longer refuse and laughed, "Actually, we aren’t the ones giving these. They are gifts from Tiantian."

The two middle-aged gossiping women shared a smile, and He Tiantian, seeing them like this, blushed, put on a coy, young daughter’s demeanor, and stomped back to her room.

Last night, He Tiantian returned to her familiar home, and was so excited she could hardly sleep. She didn’t rest at midday either, and by evening she was utterly exhausted, falling asleep as soon as she lay down.

The next day, Jiang Lifang gave He Tiantian a rabbit and a dollar, asking her to take them to the post office to send.

Wang Shuping took out a dried chicken from the cellar, quickly wrapped it in greaseproof paper, and then covered it with a clean cloth.

"Tiantian, your Aunt Jiang has to work, and I’m on sick leave right now, so I can’t go out. You take it to the post office to send," Wang Shuping said with a smile, hoping her daughter would keep in contact with Huo Yingjie. Even if they were far apart, the bond could stay strong.

Wang Shuping took the opportunity to get out a piece of dark blue fabric and started making clothes for Third Grandma Qi. They had acknowledged her as part of the family, and etiquette mustn’t be neglected.

He Tiantian’s face flushed with embarrassment as she went inside to retrieve the letter she had written last night before bed. She placed it inside the parcel before taking it to the rather distant post office.

When mailing a parcel, the contents need to be inspected. Everyone at the nearby post office knew each other, and she didn’t want to explain the origins of the wild rabbit and pheasant meat.

To mail a parcel cost only thirty-five cents, which wasn’t expensive. She brought back the remaining sixty-five cents to return to Jiang Lifang.

Although the two families were very close, they were not family after all, and Tiantian couldn’t keep the remaining money.

When Tiantian went out, everyone nearby knew she had come back. Not long after she returned home, someone came to visit.

After confirming the identity, Tiantian realized the visitor was Liu Lingli’s mother.

"Tiantian, Lingli sent a letter and she mentioned you too. She said you two live quite close and can meet often," Liu Lingli’s mother said with a chuckle, very politely.

Liu Lingli had been assigned to the neighboring Hujia Village. Although it wasn’t far, she never sought out Tiantian, acting as if Tiantian would somehow bring her trouble. The last time they were digging the river canal, Tiantian had seen Lingli intentionally avoiding her from a distance!

"Yes, we do live very close," Tiantian nodded. "Auntie, do you need something?"

Tiantian knew why Liu Lingli kept her distance. Wasn’t it the fear of Tiantian seeking help? After all, Tiantian was very slender and didn’t appear to be someone capable of hard work, or perhaps it was the worry of being dragged down by her.

However, Tiantian was grateful to Lingli for notifying her about her parents in the past life. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have known about their deaths and wouldn’t know how long she would have ended up staying at the funeral home!

"It’s like this, Lingli left in such a hurry that she didn’t take any winter clothes with her. We initially planned to send some over, but seeing you’re here made us think it would be better to have you take them, to save us a bit of money," Mother Liu said sheepishly. With many children at home and living in poverty, saving every little bit helped.

"Sure, I also need to take some stuff with me. You should give me less; if it’s too much, I won’t be able to carry it," Tiantian said, considering it a repayment of a past favor to Lingli!

"Thank you so much," Mother Liu said. "When will you be going back? I’ll get everything ready and bring it to you."

Although Tiantian wanted to stay a few more days at home, the thought of Qi Jianguo harboring ill intentions made her uneasy.

"I have a train at ten in the morning the day after tomorrow," Tiantian replied.

After Mother Liu left, Wang Shuping frowned and said, "Why did you agree to her request? That woman just likes to take advantage. Even if you say you can’t take that much, she won’t listen. She will definitely bring a huge parcel."

"It’s okay, I’m strong. We’re from the same place, and I would feel bad not helping out," Tiantian said. It was a small price to pay to settle a past debt.

"Sigh, you’re leaving again the day after tomorrow. Who knows when we’ll see each other again," Shuping said. "You, take good care of yourself in Qijia Village. When the situation improves, we’ll bring you back. We don’t have time to go this time, but I made a piece of clothing for you to give to your godmother."

"Hmm, don’t worry, I’ll take care of myself. Grandma Qi will be thrilled to receive the clothing. She’s a smart and strong old woman, and also a lonely one," Tiantian nodded obediently, suspecting it would be years before they met again.

"That’s also a token of our care," Wang Shuping said with a gentle smile.
