Chapter 866: Chapter 835 Happy Birthday, Awakened

On the weekend, He Tiantian brought her child Huo Yingjie to the Huo Family Old Mansion.

Grandma Wang, having not seen Old Madam Huo for quite some time, also came along for a good chat between old sisters.

As soon as Huo Ruixiang saw He Tiantian arrive, he stopped playing with the other children in the courtyard. From a distance, he ran over joyfully and said, "My beautiful auntie is here, I’m not playing with you guys anymore..."

"Is that the auntie who tells you stories and brings you lots of tasty treats?" one of the little boys asked. The last time Huo Ruixiang came back from visiting relatives, he had brought back loads of animal-shaped biscuits, showing off in front of them, and had shared them with everyone. Because there were many, each could only get two pieces of the bear-shaped biscuits.

Although it was a small amount, it really tasted very good.

"Yes, auntie is amazing. The biscuits and cakes she makes are especially delicious," Huo Ruixiang boasted proudly. "I’m off now, listen to me, I will save some of the tasty treats my auntie gives me for you guys."

"Okay!" everyone agreed in chorus.

He Tiantian smiled and led Huo Ruixiang towards the Huo Family Old Mansion.

Huo Ruixiang’s eyes kept glancing at the large box Uncle Second was carrying in his hand, which had cute patterns on it and looked very nice. He wondered what toy was inside?

He really wanted to take a look right now.

"Hey Uncle Second, what are you carrying there?" Huo Ruixiang asked. "Is it heavy? Can Ruixiang help you carry it?"

The three adults heard this and burst into laughter.

This Huo Ruixiang was truly clever; he wanted to know what was inside but was too shy to ask directly, so he tried to find out in such a manner.

"Big brother, that’s a birthday cake!" Huo Ruimin couldn’t help but reveal, "Mom said it’s your birthday today. She made the cake herself to celebrate your birthday."

"Ah?" Huo Ruixiang was startled, then scratched his head and said, "Yeah, grandma said that she would make me a bowl of ’dragon beard’ noodles to celebrate my birthday. I’ve never had a birthday cake before! Is it tasty?"

"Tasty, very tasty, and really fun too. You’ll have to blow out the candles, make a wish, and sing a song," Huo Ruihua explained. "Anyway, you’ll find out later."

"Mhm mhm," Huo Ruixiang’s eyes sparkled with anticipation.

Once at home, Huo Ruixiang’s gaze was fixed on the large box.

Song Chunli, seeing He Tiantian and Huo Yingjie arrive, was very warm—acting as if that greedy great aunt of hers had never existed.

"Oh dear, you’re here, why bring so much stuff!" Song Chunli exclaimed. This couple never came empty-handed, and although she always had to fuss over meals, the liveliness was enjoyable; the old man and old lady were happy, the kids were happy, and so was she.

"Great aunt, I calculated, and today happens to be Ruixiang’s birthday. So I had the bakery’s chef make a birthday cake for Ruixiang’s celebration," He Tiantian said with a smile. "By the way, great aunt, what do you think about this? Let’s invite the children who get along well with Ruixiang on regular days to come over too, since the cake is big and Ruixiang, Ruimin, and Ruihua, all three together, cannot finish it."

"That’s a great idea; the more children, the merrier," Song Chunli said readily, wanting to make sure nothing spoiled her grandson’s birthday celebration as it was arranged by He Tiantian especially for him.

Ruixiang’s eyes shone as he asked He Tiantian, "Auntie, can I really invite my friends over to have the cake with me?"

"Of course, go ahead!" He Tiantian looked up and saw several little heads peeking towards the yard from not far from the door.

"Mhm!" Huo Ruixiang ran out and motioned, "Come over, my auntie said to invite you guys over for the birthday cake."

"Ah..." A dozen little friends swarmed in excitedly.

Huo Yingjie placed the cake box on the stone table, with many children gathered around.

He Tiantian brought over a basin of water and said, "Come on, wash your hands first!"

Seeing the beautiful auntie and then their own little dirty hands, they hurried over to wash up obediently.

He Tiantian took out a red paper crown and placed it on Huo Ruixiang’s head, while Huo Yingjie lifted the cake’s lid, revealing a sixteen-inch large cake.

As Huo Ruixiang was born in 1976, the Year of the Dragon, there were several cute dragons lying, sitting, and standing on it.

Around the edges, there were rings of cream flowers and plenty of various shaped fruits.

Summer was the best season for fruit cakes, abundant with seasonal fruits.

"Wow, that’s so beautiful..."

"It smells so good..."

"It must be delicious..."

At this moment, the adults in the house also came out and looked towards the children in the courtyard.

There were also neighbors who had come out for a stroll.

Huo Yingjie inserted the candles and lit five of them.

"Before we eat the cake, we have to sing the birthday song," Huo Ruimin chirped, "Come, I’ll start, and everyone else join in. Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you..."

Eager for cake, everyone, whether they knew the tune or not, hummed along.

"Brother, close your eyes, make a wish, and then you can blow out the candles," Huo Ruihua explained. "Then your wish will come true."

"Really? Can it really come true?" Huo Ruixiang asked.

"It can," Huo Ruihua and Huo Ruimin answered earnestly.

Huo Ruixiang clasped his hands together, closed his eyes to make a wish, and then took a deep breath and blew out the candles.

"Okay, now we can eat the cake," He Tiantian said with a smile. "Everyone, just wait a moment, I’ll cut the cake."

He Tiantian held a plastic transparent knife in her hand, began to cut the cake, and then placed pieces of cake on paper plates.

"Come on, let’s give the cake to the kids first, then to the elders, okay?" He Tiantian asked Huo Ruixiang.

"Sure!" Huo Ruixiang nodded, handing a piece of cake to Old Master Huo not far away.

After several trips, he had offered cake to his great-grandmother, great-grandfather, grandmother, grandfather, and his parents.

Zhao Huanhuan was even more delighted to see her son so happy and sensible.

He Tiantian was distributing cake to the children.

She saved the best piece for Huo Ruixiang, with a whole dragon pattern on it.

The children held their cakes, eating and exclaiming how delicious it was.

Huo Ruixiang felt very happy today and hoped to be this happy in the future too, wishing more than anything that his wish would come true.

After the children had finished their cakes, they began to head home.

Before leaving, they wished Huo Ruixiang a happy birthday, making him especially joyful.

"Hehe, this is the first time I’m eating cake," laughed Old Master Wu, who was playing chess with Old Master Huo not far away.

"It’s just for novelty," Old Master Huo chuckled. It was partially about the cake, but more importantly, the family was in harmony!

Huo Zheqian smiled kindly at Yingjie and He Tiantian.

Zhao Huanhuan approached He Tiantian and said, "Tiantian, thank you. In the past, when the children had birthdays, we’d just cook them some noodles, we never had cake!"

"Hehe, it’s just for some fun," He Tiantian laughed. "The kids like it, and the adults are happy too..."

Song Chunli, thinking about the not-so-lavish lunch, felt a bit guilty and sneakily went to prepare a couple more substantial dishes.

He Tiantian had given her grandson such a treat; she couldn’t only remember the bad about someone and forget their good deeds!

Old Madam Huo saw her oldest daughter-in-law go to the kitchen again and nodded. She could say a thousand words, but it was better for Song Chunli to come to her own realization. Some things should not be dwelled on; the more one nitpicks, the more one loses. By not fretting, on the contrary, one gains more.
