Chapter 834: Chapter 803: Yanjing, Picking Up Someone

Huashan had arrived in Yanjing and immediately started appraising the location and feng shui of the house, then designed the best imitation of antique architecture.

Niu Dajun, on the other hand, first looked up Lao Lian, asking him to inquire about any houses for sale near He Tiantian’s home.

Lao Lian, being a shrewd person, had also received a telegram from He Tiantian and put his whole heart into helping with the house search. Meanwhile, Huashan was busy registering the company and simultaneously applying for house renovation, among other things.

Even with many acquaintances, Niu Dajun still had to run around numerous departments to get all the various documents and procedures handled.

Just this took up a month.

After that, he contacted building material suppliers to start purchasing supplies for house construction.

To ensure the quality of the houses, Niu Dajun used his connections to find a reputable local contractor. To avoid being cheated, Niu Dajun directly approached a major leader in charge of overseeing construction companies, and invited the head of the construction company for a meal.

The leader of Hongda Construction Company, Jiang Dawei, had initially thought of taking advantage of Niu Dajun, who was from out of town, intending to substitute inferior materials and make a hefty profit. However, once he saw that Niu Dajun brought a high-ranking official, he immediately abandoned any such cunning plans.

If it were possible, Niu Dajun wouldn’t have wanted things this way, but as a matter of fact, if you didn’t act this way, you wouldn’t even dream about receiving the houses as stipulated in the contract. Houses are a special matter, not like food that you can tear open, look at and smell to instantly know if it’s good or not. If a house is poorly built, or inferior materials are used in minor areas, it’s just not something you can readily identify.

Originally, Huashan was supposed to go back within a month, but seeing that Niu Dajun couldn’t handle everything alone, he stayed to help out; after all, they were doing it for He Tiantian.

With Lao Lian’s help, Niu Dajun bought a courtyard one kilometer away from He Tiantian’s house for 330,000 yuan. It was a little smaller, with two and a half sections, but the condition of the house was similar. All it needed was a bit of cleaning and some paint, and then it would be ready for move-in.

Then, with an additional 20,000 yuan from He Tiantian, they bought furniture and beddings and finally got both courtyards sorted out.

The parents stayed in the main front courtyard, while Niu Dajun, Qi Xiaoyan, and the kids moved into the back courtyard. The remaining half of the courtyard was currently unused, and Niu Dajun did not bother cleaning it.

A month later, Qi Xiaoyan arrived in Yanjing escorted by her older brother Qi Rongmin, bringing along the two children as well as Niu Dajun’s retired parents.

Niu Dajun eagerly awaited with a sign at the train station entrance to meet his family.

As soon as Qi Xiaoyan exited the station, she saw Niu Dajun waiting with a large sign.

Moved by this scene, Qi Xiaoyan felt that her husband would do anything for her; even her father-in-law and mother-in-law had come because they were worried about them.

This departure from their hometown was all because of her.

Qi Xiaoyan made a mental note of her family’s kindness and resolved to be even better to them in the future.

"Dad, Dad," cried the two boys as soon as they saw their father. They tried to break free from their grandparents’ hold to run toward their father.

The place was crowded—neither Father Niu nor Mother Niu felt safe, so they held tightly onto the children’s hands.

To pick up his family, Niu Dajun had rented a seven-seater car.

After he arrived in Yanjing, He Tiantian had bought a used car for Niu Dajun directly from Qi Zhenghan to maintain appearances. They would switch to a new one for Niu Dajun after everything was on track.

"Mom, Dad, big brother, thank you for your effort," expressed Niu Dajun gratefully. "Let’s go, let’s head home."

Qi Rongmin smiled and replied, "It was no trouble at all."

His little sister and brother-in-law were trying their luck in Yanjing, and they had left the family shop for them to manage, which was bringing in good money every month.

Sister Tiantian was so good to them, it was nothing for Qi Rongmin to make the trip.

"Brother Dajun, how much longer until we get home?" Qi Xiaoyan asked. Having bought a house here, she felt like she truly had a home now.

"About fifty minutes, we’ll be home in a bit," Niu Dajun said. "Our house is really big, you’ll definitely love it when you see it. Oh, and our house is just one kilometer away from Tiantian’s; a few minutes’ walk and we’ll be there."

"That’s great," Qi Xiaoyan said. "I wonder when Sister Tiantian and her family will come to Yanjing! With Tiantian here, it’s like I have a backbone, and we’re not afraid of anything."

"Even if Tiantian doesn’t come over, she has arranged everything for us," Niu Dajun said. "I’ve also sorted out the kids’ school; they can start attending after resting for two days."

"Mmm, that’s really nice," Qi Xiaoyan said. They chatted and laughed all the way, and soon they were home.

After getting out of the car, Niu Dajun paid the driver and gave him a pack of cigarettes before leading everyone inside.

Father Niu and Mother Niu looked at the large red-painted gate in front of them, the shiny brass lock, and the tall threshold.

"Dajun, this house used to belong to a rich family," Father Niu sighed. He truly hadn’t imagined they would be able to buy such a house at the foot of the imperial city.

Initially, he had been full of complaints about his son and daughter-in-law coming to Yanjing.

But seeing all this brought a significant change to Father Niu’s heart.

In ancient times, only officials and nobles could afford such homes. For his son and daughter-in-law to have such a house at the foot of the imperial city was now seen as worthwhile.

Father Niu, supporting his wife, entered the courtyard together.

Niu Da and Niu Er, the two little ones, couldn’t get over the threshold and simply tumbled over it.

Past the entrance was the screen wall, and only then did the inner courtyard and the second gate appear. On each side were two rooms. After entering the second gate, Niu Dajun said, "Dad, Mom, the main house is prepared for you two. Two rooms are the living room, and the other two are my bedroom. The east wing is the kitchen and dining room, while the west wing is the guest room. Xiao Yan and I, along with the kids, will live in the courtyard behind this one. There’s another courtyard we aren’t using; I haven’t fixed it up."

"Not bad, not bad at all, I want to take a look everywhere," Father Niu was delighted and set out to explore.

Niu Dajun laughed and said, "Dad, Mom, you should rest inside for a while first. Whatever you want to see won’t go missing in a bit!"

"No way, I need to take a look," Father Niu ignored his son and insisted on taking a look around.

"Never mind your father, let’s go inside," Mother Niu said, calling over Qi Rongmin.

Everyone liked the furnishings inside the house, showing the effort Niu Dajun had put in.

Soon, Father Niu came back and said, "We can’t let that empty courtyard go to waste. Tomorrow I’ll turn over the soil and plant some vegetables."

Initially, he had thought about leaving once his daughter-in-law and grandchildren were settled, but now he didn’t want to leave. He decided to stay here for a while, to bask in the imperial city’s dragon energy.

"As you wish," Niu Dajun said. "I’ve bought some groceries; I’m going to cook."

"Dad, Mom, Big Brother, you guys chat in the room, I’m going to help cook too," Qi Xiaoyan followed, going out with her husband.

As for the two children, they had already started playing in the courtyard.

"Dajun, thank you, you’ve worked hard," Once they reached the kitchen and saw no one around, Qi Xiaoyan tiptoed and kissed Niu Dajun’s face.

Seeing his wife so happy made all of Niu Dajun’s fatigue seem like nothing at all.
