Chapter 829: Chapter 798 The Way of Husband and Wife

Mi Wei saw He Tiantian come to the canteen and waved her over.

He Tiantian saw that there were still seats available next to Teacher Wu, so she brought Huo Yingjie over.

Huo Yingjie took out two large insulated containers from his bag.

"Tiantian, you start with some dishes and soup. I’ll go get you some rice," Huo Yingjie stood up and headed to the rice selling counter.

Soon, Huo Yingjie returned with a big bowl of rice.

"If it’s not enough, I’ll go buy more," Huo Yingjie said, worried that He Tiantian might feel embarrassed to eat too much in front of her colleagues.

He Tiantian smiled and said, "This big bowl is enough."

Mi Wei covertly sized up Huo Yingjie and said, "Teacher He, you haven’t introduced us yet."

He Tiantian swallowed the mouthful of rice she was eating and introduced them, "This is Huo Yingjie, my husband; and these are my colleagues, Mi Wei and Wu Meimei."

"Nice to meet you," Huo Yingjie greeted them first. "Please take good care of my Tiantian in the future."

Wow, that was a blatant display of affection!

Mi Wei said with a smile, "Teacher He has such a good temper; it’s always her taking care of us."

"Indeed!" Teacher Wu said softly. How could He Tiantian be so lucky? She’s beautiful, comes from a good family, and even married a good husband. She is simply treasured by everyone.

It wasn’t until the comparison was made that one could truly feel envious, jealous, and even resentful!

"Huo Yingjie, where do you work?" Mi Wei asked. Given the affection between He Tiantian and her husband, it was unlikely that they had been working together for a year without anyone having met Huo Yingjie before.

Huo Yingjie smiled and replied, "I work at a unit under the Science and Technology Commission."

"That’s impressive," Mi Wei said. "Are you on vacation now?"

"Yes," Huo Yingjie nodded as he answered while serving He Tiantian food.

The sweetness of the gesture left Mi Wei and Teacher Wu feeling like they really needed to trade in their own husbands.

After eating, Huo Yingjie cleaned everything up and took a walk around the campus with He Tiantian. He didn’t head home until it was almost time for He Tiantian to start work. He would then come back to pick her up after work.

By the time they returned to the office, several people there were talking about He Tiantian and Huo Yingjie.

"My goodness, it’s true what they say—comparisons will really kill you," Teacher Wu remarked. "Teacher He, does your husband have any brothers?"

Wang Bin chuckled and said, "Regretting getting married too early?"

"Yeah, I do regret it, but it’s no use now," Wu Meimei said. "I have a younger sister, Wu Mingming, who will graduate from college next year. She’s not getting any younger, and I’m thinking of finding her a match."

"I’m sorry, but my partner is an only child," He Tiantian said with a smile, feeling she had to add her two cents since the office was discussing them, or else she’d be considered unsociable.

"Does your partner have any cousins or distant brothers?" Teacher Wu asked persistently. The Huo family had such good conditions; it would be even better if she could establish a connection.

He Tiantian hadn’t talked about her family background at school. The reason she was thought to come from a good family was deduced from her behavior, conversation, and clothing among other things.

If Wu Meimei knew that Huo Yingjie’s father was Mayor Huo, she probably would not have the audacity to push her sister onto the Huo family.

Although the new society brings new attitudes, the concept that marriage should align in social status and that mismatched pairs are undesirable is deeply ingrained.

"My uncle’s family has a cousin, but he already has two sons," He Tiantian said. "As for my other male cousins, they’re all married too. My father-in-law is the youngest among his siblings, and my partner is the youngest in the next generation."

"Ah, that’s a pity," Teacher Wu sighed. She had not listened to her mother, insisted on marrying her current husband, and now they lived a tight life, often quarreling. It was too late for regrets.

She definitely wouldn’t allow her sister to find someone from out of town.

Mi Wei rolled his eyes where Teacher Wu couldn’t see and thought, "Given how she is, her sister is probably not easy to get along with either."

He Tiantian just smiled when she saw Mi Wei’s eye roll and said nothing.

"Teacher He, you’ve been married for several years, and your relationship is still so good?" Mi Wei asked, very curious about this, even though she had been married for under half a year, she felt that He Tiantian and her husband seemed even more loving.

"We’ve been married for five years; we got married in February of ’76," He Tiantian replied. "If you hadn’t asked, I wouldn’t have noticed. It’s surprising how swiftly five years have gone by."

"Five years?" Teacher Wu shrieked. "After five years, you two should be an old married couple by now. How can you still be so affectionate?"

Seeing Teacher Wu say this, and with other teachers like Teacher Chen and Wang Bin present, He Tiantian blushed and said shyly, "When two hearts are in harmony, they care for and support each other regularly, and that’s how it is. Okay, I need to go teach my class now, I’ll stop chatting."

He Tiantian made a hasty retreat.

Although she was a married woman, it was indeed embarrassing to be asked such a question in front of the opposite sex.

"Hehe, Teacher He is embarrassed," Mi Wei laughed and said to the retreating back of He Tiantian, "Teacher Wu, just let it go."

Teacher Chen, seeing Teacher Wu’s envy and disappointment, advised, "Back when Teacher He was in university, she and her husband were inseparable, and Huo Yingjie would come to pick her up for school every day. The way of a husband and wife, Xiao Mi, Teacher Wu, you two should learn from He Tiantian in private. Teacher He is adept whether it’s in her work or in her life."

"Yes, we should ask for advice in private," Mi Wei said. "Actually, between husband and wife, we don’t need to be very rich, but to be as happy as Teacher He is already what I’ve longed for."

Teacher Wu was struck. She had been married for not quite two years and had reached the point where she and her husband didn’t talk to each other after returning home.

If she were to divorce, she couldn’t bear it because, after all, she still really liked her husband.

Without a divorce, the coldness between them was unbearable, and every day was unhappy.

He Tiantian had been married for five years and had two children, but when she talked about her husband, she would still blush, her eyes shimmering with happiness—a joyful little woman.

Both women, yet why could He Tiantian do it, and she couldn’t?

After He Tiantian’s class, Teacher Chen and Wang Bin went to teach, leaving only Teacher Wu and Mi Wei in the office.

Unable to hold back, Mi Wei asked, "Teacher He, could you tell me how to cultivate affection in a marriage?"

Although Teacher Wu didn’t ask, she looked hopefully towards He Tiantian.

Feeling a bit uneasy under their gaze, but with no male colleagues around, He Tiantian spoke quietly, "Actually, there’s not much to it. First comes love; being able to get married proves that there’s a foundation of feelings. Second, respect each other, including his background, career, or some shortcomings. Lastly, if it’s not a matter of principle, please avoid arguing; arguing hurts the relationship."

Mi Wei took careful note, then asked, "What counts as a matter of principle?"

"That’s right, Teacher He. Since you’ve mentioned it, please tell us all, so we can improve our marital relationships when we get back home," Teacher Wu urged hastily, as she was the antithesis of He Tiantian.

Wu Meimei vaguely felt that if she didn’t make some changes, her marriage wouldn’t last, so she was even more eager than Mi Wei to find out how to improve her marital relationship!

He Tiantian smiled and said, "Matters of principle are quite straightforward. First, be faithful to each other without straying; second, no domestic violence or verbal abuse; third, show filial piety towards both parties’ parents. As long as you don’t commit such mistakes, there’s no need for the sort of arguments that wound the heart."
