Chapter 766: Chapter 735: Knocking on the Door, Slapping Faces Loudly_1
Relieved that Qi Zhenghan was not showing up in front of her, He Tiantian breathed a sigh of relief, glad not to be stuck in an awkward situation.
With no awkwardness, He Tiantian’s life became even more perfect.
Still, Qi Zhenghan was her grandma’s biological grandson, a person she could not avoid for a lifetime, leaving her puzzled. However, being naturally optimistic, she decided not to think about it since there was no immediate issue.
As soon as He Tiantian arrived home in the evening, she heard Huang Jingli’s voice.
He Tiantian quickened her steps and said, "Jingli Sister, when did you come back to the city? Where is the child?"
"I came a few days ago. I finally got the house in order, and now I’ve managed to come see you," Huang Jingli explained. "It’s windy today, I’ll bring the child over another day for you to see."
"No need, I’ll be free tomorrow afternoon. I can come over to your place," He Tiantian said. "I was supposed to visit you anyway. Seeing that you’ve recovered so well, I’m relieved. By the way, how is your internship going? Have you approached Teacher Chen?"
Huang Jingli smiled and replied, "I did. The day after tomorrow I’ll report to Nan City Daily. Then, I must work hard."
"Hmm, that’s great, it’s the job you wanted," He Tiantian said. "You’ve finally got your wish."
"Yes," Huang Jingli replied. "By the way, has Lin Xiaoru been giving you any trouble recently?"
He Tiantian shook her head and answered, "No, that Lin Xiaoru hasn’t been causing me trouble. Why, has she come to bother you?"
"Not yet," Huang Jingli said. "Yesterday, one of my neighbors mentioned that a woman has been loitering around my house. I suspect that person is Lin Xiaoru. Now that I’ve given birth, if I come across Lin Xiaoru and she continues to be outrageous, I will beat her up."
He Tiantian covered her mouth and laughed, saying, "After all, she’s not as strong as you, so there’s no need to be afraid."
After talking for a while, Huang Jingli, who had not eaten dinner, said goodbye and left since she had to go home to feed her child.
The following afternoon, He Tiantian picked up some pastries and two old hens from the shop to visit Huang Jingli and her child.
The child, chubby and fair, resembled Huang Jingli to some extent; he probably wouldn’t look bad when he grew up, but if he resembled Wu Youliang, that could be worrisome.
With a grandson in tow, Mother Wu wanted for nothing.
"The child looks so lively," He Tiantian commented. "That’s wonderful!"
"Yes, he looks exactly like his dad when he was little," Mother Wu proudly stated, not finding her own words amusing at all.
Thinking about what Wu Youliang looked like, He Tiantian mused that if he was this cute as a child, then he must have grown up quite differently.
He Tiantian pulled out a silver longevity lock from her pocket and said, "This is my gift for meeting the child, hoping he will have a long and prosperous life."
"Oh dear, this is too valuable," Mother Wu exclaimed. "How can we accept such a fine gift from you?"
He Tiantian smiled and said, "It’s not that valuable; it’s a gift for the child and a token of my heartfelt wishes. Jingli Sister and I are not just classmates and friends; now our families are business partners as well. If you don’t accept it, it would seem like you’re treating me as an outsider."
Seeing He Tiantian put it that way, Huang Jingli laughed and said, "Mom, just take it. It’s for the child. In the future, we will work hard and repay Tiantian properly."
Mother Wu nodded and said, "All right, I’ll take it. When Tiantian’s child has a birthday, we’ll also give a decent present."
While He Tiantian and Mother Wu were talking, a commotion came from outside.
Huang Jingli went to open the door and jumped back, startled by the person outside. She was about to close it, but the door was pushed open.
"Jingli, we’ve come to visit you together. You can’t just kick us out," a girl’s voice said sharply, her eyes scanning the yard nonstop.
Huang Jingli stepped back and said irritably, "If you have something to say, just say it. Don’t come in."
"Jingli, your sister is being thoughtless; don’t stoop to her level," offered Mother Huang with a look of embarrassment, not daring to meet Huang Jingli’s eyes. But they could no longer get by at home and had to come seek refuge with her daughter, hoping she would help her younger sister out.
Huang Jingli spoke with a hint of mockery, "Stoop to her level? I cherish her so much and have been so filial to you. But how did you all behave?"
"Ah, Jingli, your sister is just immature. Remember how I raised you, you should take your sister in now," Mother Huang said. She and her younger daughter had come first to live in Huang Jingli’s big courtyard and later planned to have her husband join them. They would leave their house to their son and not return.
He Tiantian came out and saw Huang Jingli confronting the mother-daughter pair. After hearing their conversation, she guessed who they might be.
He Tiantian quickly went inside and said, "Aunt Wu, Jingli’s foster mother and sister are here. I’ll watch the child for you; you better see what they want quickly, so Jingli isn’t put in a difficult spot and taken advantage of?",
On hearing this, a look of disgust crossed Mother Wu’s face. She put the child on the bed and said, "Tiantian, could you watch the child for a minute? I’ll go out and see."
"Sure!" He Tiantian replied. It was best to let Huang Jingli’s family deal with this, as it wouldn’t be appropriate for her, an outsider, to interfere.
He Tiantian listened attentively to what they were saying!
"Jingli, who are these people?" Mother Wu asked cheerfully. "Relatives from your hometown?"
Seeing Mother Wu, Mother Huang stepped forward with a smile and said, "Oh, it’s my in-law. I am Jingli’s mother!"
Mother Wu gave a half-hearted smile, withdrawing her hand, and said with a laugh, "That’s not right. I heard from my son that Jingli’s biological parents have died, and she grew up in her aunt’s home. What’s more, I’ve heard that her aunt wanted to replace Jingli’s place at school with her own daughter. I don’t know if it’s true or not!"
Mother Wu’s words were like several slaps on Mother Huang’s face.
"Ma’am, don’t listen to gossip. When did I ever take my sister’s place in college?" Huang Jingtao objected, "If I had, then I would be the one in college now, not her."
Mother Wu chuckled and said, "Ha, just by looking at your appearance, I can tell you definitely aren’t destined for college! I am Huang Jingli’s mother-in-law. Jingli, go back inside and tend to the child. I’ll take care of our relatives."
Huang Jingli looked worriedly at her mother-in-law, anxious that she might be deceived by them.
Mother Wu ignored Huang Jingli’s gaze and asked, "Aunt, do you need something? If so, please speak quickly."
"I was hoping to talk to Jingli," Mother Huang said, looking sheepish. She had the audacity to ask her foster daughter for money but was too embarrassed to ask her foster daughter’s mother-in-law!
Upon hearing this, Huang Jingli turned and went inside without a backward glance.
"Jingli is busy with the child and doesn’t have time. Aunt, you can tell me anything just the same, we’re all family," Mother Wu said cheerfully. By categorizing Huang Jingli’s foster mother as an ’aunt,’ she could frame her as a more distant relative, making it easier to clear up certain matters.
"Ma’am, my sister didn’t marry into your family to be a slave. Don’t we even have the right to talk to her?" Huang Jingtao said discontentedly. "Sis, sis, come out."
