Chapter 757: Chapter 726: Conversation, Effort_1

Qian Shikun’s wife, Liao Furong, appeared younger than Qian Shikun, probably in her forties.

After chatting with everyone for a while, she went to cook with her daughter-in-law.

He Tiantian followed them, offering to help.

"Aunt Qian, let me help," He Tiantian said with a smile. She couldn’t get a word in edgewise among the men talking inside, so she thought it better to come out and be of assistance.

"No need, Tiantian," Liao Furong declined, "Just sit inside for a while; it will be ready soon."

"It’s alright, I can’t really join in the conversation inside anyway." He Tiantian had already squatted down and started picking through the chives.

Xie Wanying was stir-frying and smiled when she saw He Tiantian, "Thank you for the trouble."

"It’s no trouble," He Tiantian replied, "I heard you’re planning to leave after the Lantern Festival."

"It’s my husband and children who are leaving. My mother-in-law doesn’t want to leave," Xie Wanying explained, "My husband, Qian Zhigao, and I are both school teachers; we have to work. We’ll bring the children over again during the summer vacation."

There were holidays every summer and winter break, so it wasn’t as if they would never see each other.

Now with the reform and opening up, they could take a ship to Shenzhen and then a train to Nan City from there. Even though the train journey took two days, it was worth it.

Although her father-in-law appeared somewhat aged, he had kept the house in good order. It was within her expectations that her mother-in-law, who missed him dearly, would stay to take care of him.

"Hehe, that’s nice," He Tiantian said. "I’m about to start my internship at the university soon too, and I’ll become a teacher after that. Just the thought of it makes me nervous."

"You’re a university teacher too?" Xie Wanying exclaimed in surprise. She had heard of Nan City University before.

He Tiantian nodded, "Yes, but I only graduate this July. I’ll start my internship after this semester begins, and if all goes well, I’ll become a university teacher."

"I teach mathematics, what about you?" asked Xie Wanying, who had moved to Hong Kong with her family in the 1930s. As such, she had no relatives or friends in the Mainland, and meeting He Tiantian, who was in the same profession, made her very happy.

"I’m from the Chinese department; I guess I’ll probably end up teaching Chinese," He Tiantian said with a smile. Initially feeling out of her element, she had worked hard, reading diligently, and she believed that with her efforts, she could do very well.

"Oh? My brother is from the Chinese department at Xiangjiang University," Xie Wanying said, "He’s very talented. He writes lyrics and many of the songs are with his words."

Turns out Xie Wanying had connections to the entertainment industry in Hong Kong.

"Hehe, I’ve heard the entertainment industry in Hong Kong is thriving—I had no idea your brother was part of that circle," He Tiantian praised.

Admiration shone in Xie Wanying’s eyes as she spoke, "Actually, my brother isn’t really part of the entertainment industry; he just writes the lyrics. It started as a hobby, but no one expected him to be so talented and to gain such fame. Many singers have invited him to write songs."

"Indeed, that’s very talented," He Tiantian nodded, "The entertainment industry isn’t very developed in our country, but as it grows, our material and spiritual lives will become richer."

"They will," agreed Xie Wanying, "My father says that the Mainland is currently reforming, and as long as the policies are stable, it will be in a phase of rapid development for the next thirty years."

He Tiantian and Xie Wanying chatted while they worked.

Liao Furong was gently smiling, listening to the young people talk.

Once the meal was ready, everyone ate and drank together.

Huo Yingjie thought that Qian Zhigao was very opportunistic, especially when it came to patents, where he had unique insights.

Huo Yingjie reflected that he had always been engaged in military research and held a significant status in the military field. However, making a fortune off of it was absolutely out of the question. It was such a pity to have so many ideas in his head and not use them.

Therefore, he purposefully engaged in conversation with Qian Zhigao with the hope that Qian could help him apply for patents.

It was simply a matter of using Qian Zhigao’s name to set up a patent company, specializing in collecting various patents or applying for them, and subsequently collecting various patent fees on behalf of the patent owners.

Military-related patents were not an option for Huo Yingjie, so he could only deal with civil inventions and could not apply under his own name. Instead, he used He Tiantian’s name.

The entertainment industry was booming in Hong Kong, and with the existing technological capability, it was possible to produce VCDs and video recorders.

With these patents, starting from Hong Kong, and then expanding to Country M, Europe, and other developed nations, the patent licensing fees collected would be a very large sum. When video recorders and videotapes became outdated, there would still be upgraded products.

Qian Zhigao also realized it was an excellent idea; if Huo Yingjie had comprehensive information, he could apply for the patents.

He Tiantian vaguely heard some of this and knew her husband was a man of ideas. Therefore, He Tiantian supported his actions.

At nine in the evening, He Tiantian, Huo Yingjie, and Sun Sihao said their goodbyes.

After returning home, He Tiantian expressed her concerns, "Brother Yingjie, won’t your cooperation with Qian Zhigao affect you?"

"It won’t affect me!" laughed Huo Yingjie. "Let’s put it under your name."

"Really?" He Tiantian blinked. "We are husband and wife; there’s no difference whether it’s under my name or yours. Just make sure it’s well-considered and doesn’t interfere with your primary job because of these things."

"It’s fine," Huo Yingjie nodded. "Don’t worry, I understand what’s important."

"Actually, compared to Hong Kong, aren’t the entertainment industries in Country M and Europe even more developed?" He Tiantian said. "Grandmother and Uncle Qi have businesses in the United States and Europe. Wouldn’t it be more appropriate for them to handle it, rather than hand it over to those in Hong Kong?"

Huo Yingjie nodded. "Ah, why didn’t I think of that?"

Hearing this, He Tiantian rolled her eyes, saying, "Alright, stop pretending. You’d already thought of that. The reason you want to collaborate with Qian is definitely for some other reason."

"You’re really clever, Tiantian. You can guess everything," Huo Yingjie said with a sheepish smile. "Our main focus is to open a patent agency. We’re not responsible for manufacturing, and it’s not just about having one patent; we have many. But don’t worry, my main focus will be on civil patents that won’t involve military aspects."

"Alright then," He Tiantian nodded. "This will definitely make money. When the time comes, let’s give Grandmother and Uncle Qi priority for the authorization to thank them for their previous support."

"Understood," nodded Huo Yingjie, indifferent. After all, they’d make money either way.

He Tiantian always knew her husband’s mindset. She felt that being unable to earn money with his talents and support the family was something he felt guilty about.

He Tiantian was not bothered, but she understood Huo Yingjie’s psyche.

Overthinking was not a trait exclusive to women; men did it too.

As long as everything was fine, she supported her husband’s decisions. Once he felt at ease, he would no longer overthink.

Her goal was to hope for a harmonious family; everything else was an effort towards that aim.

She was trying, and so was Huo Yingjie.
