Chapter 740: Chapter 709 Understanding, Showing Off_1
Huo Zhekun and Jiang Lifang saw that it was their son taking care of the child and just smiled.
They were experienced and understood.
Jiang Lifang prepared a simple breakfast, and after eating, the couple hurried off to work.
Zhang Aijun and Li Yunzhong had nothing to do, so they took turns helping with the child.
Huo Yingjie was at home doing some household chores within his capabilities.
Li Yunzhong found a chance and whispered to Zhang Aijun, "Brother Zhang, you see how Big Brother Huo is all cool and reserved at the research institute, but at home, he’s actually quite nice. He’s filial to his parents, loves his child, and is exceptionally good to his wife. He’s a good man."
Zhang Aijun patted Li Yunzhong’s head and said, "You’re still young and haven’t gotten married yet! After you get married and settle down, you’ll understand."
"Ha!" Li Yunzhong wasn’t satisfied. "So secretive, Brother Zhang, are you like this at home too?"
"Yes!" Zhang Aijun said. "If I do more household chores, then your sister-in-law has to do less."
"Oh!" Li Yunzhong nodded, pretending to understand, "You’re all good men."
Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains and shone into the room.
When He Tiantian woke up, she realized that it was already half-past ten.
He Tiantian changed into fresh clothes and, with a rosy complexion, went to the washroom to freshen up and apply light makeup to cover the dark circles under her eyes.
Huo Yingjie was currently doing the laundry and the water in the big basin was actually cold.
"Why aren’t you using hot water?" He Tiantian said with concern, noticing Huo Yingjie’s icy hands.
"It’s okay; I’ll be fine soon," Huo Yingjie replied. "I’m not really washing. I’m just removing the foam. The washing machine did the hard work."
"Still, you shouldn’t," He Tiantian said softly as she went inside to boil water.
"Really, there’s no need. I’m almost done," Huo Yingjie smiled. "You’re tired, so you should rest properly."
Huo Yingjie put aside the clothing he was washing and poured a cup of honey water for He Tiantian, "If you’re hungry, there’s some porridge left in the pot; have some. If you don’t feel like having porridge, there are snacks in the house; eat a few. We’ll make dumplings for lunch and have a good meal."
"Alright," He Tiantian said softly, smiling.
After using the washing machine to spin-dry the clothes, Huo Yingjie hung them up to dry.
Having cleaned the clothes and wiped down the simple washing machine, things were much more convenient. He could even do other tasks while washing clothes.
These were all purchased from the Overseas Chinese Store; they were expensive but practical.
Once everything was tidy, Huo Yingjie came to help.
In the morning, he had bought two pounds of fresh meat and, along with the Chinese cabbage from home, was preparing to make pork and cabbage dumplings.
He Tiantian didn’t drink the porridge but instead, ate a few meat floss pastries with her honey water, soothing her stomach and preventing it from growling.
Huo Yingjie’s cleaver went "bang bang bang" on the cutting board as he chopped the meat filling, and He Tiantian made the dough.
Huo Ruihua and Huo Ruimin, bundled up with berets on their heads, played in the yard. With Zhang Aijun and Li Yunzhong around, there was no need to worry about them falling and getting hurt.
He Tiantian prepared the dumpling filling and started making dumplings.
Grandma Wang began to coax the children, while Zhang Aijun and Li Yunzhong also joined in to make dumplings.
"Hehe, I didn’t expect you two to know how to make dumplings," He Tiantian said with a smile. She was rolling out the dough by herself, and it wasn’t enough for all three of them to make dumplings, so Huo Yingjie helped by cutting and pressing the dough.
"Sister-in-law, soldiers all know how to make dumplings. During the New Year and festivals in the army, we eat dumplings and everyone helps to make them. If they aren’t good, you just have to eat your own creations," Li Yunzhong said with a laugh, "To enjoy tasty dumplings, you must learn and make them meticulously."
"Hehe, so there is really such a thing," He Tiantian laughed, recalling something Brother Yingjie had told her before.
Many hands make light work, and in no time, the dumplings were ready.
They had dumplings for lunch and were completely satisfied.
He Tiantian had set aside some dumplings and, after they had finished eating, she cooked them and put them in a thermal box for Huo Yingjie to take to grandma.
Huo Yingjie was naturally pleased to have the chance to show off, and Li Yunzhong followed suit.
Jiang Lifang, who worked in the hospital, was planning to go to the cafeteria when she saw her son carrying a thermal box, her face breaking into a smile at the thought of her son bringing her food.
"Mom, we made dumplings today, and Tiantian asked me to bring some to you. Are you eating in the office or going to the cafeteria?" Huo Yingjie asked, seizing the good opportunity to praise He Tiantian in front of his mother.
"To the cafeteria—the office is full of germs," Jiang Lifang said without hesitation. With such filial son and daughter-in-law, of course, she couldn’t eat alone in the office.
She definitely wanted to go to the cafeteria, to a crowded place, so that everyone could see how filial her son and daughter-in-law were!
Huo Yingjie accompanied his mother to the cafeteria.
Director Wang from the opposite door saw Jiang Lifang and the accompanying Huo Yingjie and said, "Hehe, Lifang, your son has brought you food again."
"Yes, the child is disobedient, doesn’t listen to me. I tell him not to bring it in this cold weather, but he insists," Jiang Lifang said, "Since he’s brought it, I couldn’t just not eat it."
"Hehe, don’t act like you don’t know a good thing when it’s right in front of you," Director Wang laughed, "He only brings it because they make something delicious at home. If my son brought me food, even leftovers, I would find it delicious too."
"You’re not right there. Your son brought you an umbrella last time!" Jiang Lifang laughed, "He’s filial too. I think it’s you who don’t recognize the blessings you have!"
The two middle-aged women were disparaging their own sons, but in reality, they were actually bragging about them.
Once inside the cafeteria, Huo Yingjie opened the thermal box and said, "Mom, you start eating. I’ll go to the kitchen and get you some vinegar."
"All right, add some soy sauce to the vinegar," Jiang Lifang reminded him, her voice a bit loud, heard by those around her.
At the same time, everyone also learned that Jiang Lifang’s son had again brought food for his mother.
Many eyes were on Huo Yingjie, but he was undistracted, swiftly got the vinegar and soy sauce, and hurried back, not wanting to delay his mother’s meal.
Vice Director Feng, seeing Jiang Lifang’s beaming smile, felt extremely annoyed, thinking of her own son, daughter, and that good-for-nothing husband of hers, she was steaming with internal rage.
"Auntie, hurry up and eat," Feng Qiaoqiao came over with a meal and reminded her.
"Eat, eat, that’s all you know," Vice Director Feng said irritably, throwing down her chopsticks and getting up to leave.
Feng Qiaoqiao was so innocent—she had picked the meal precisely as her aunt had requested. She had finally brought the food, why wouldn’t her aunt eat it now?
"Really," Feng Qiaoqiao muttered, "The older my aunt gets, the bigger her temper becomes. If she doesn’t want to eat, fine, I’ll eat it myself."
