Chapter 733: Chapter 702: Deep Hatred and Disgust, Investigation _1

They had come from a turbulent era, having endured lynching, slander, and false accusations.

Even if that woman acted wrongly and broke the law, they would not punish her, it was up to the police to do that.

That was what everyone thought, and they hoped the police wouldn’t let them down.

He Tiantian and Cui Ying returned just as the other students had finished their classes.

He Tiantian and Cui Ying went up to the platform to explain to everyone that all those accusations were slanderous.

If the students who worked alongside Huang Jingli in the countryside said it was slander, they couldn’t insist it was true.

The classmates combed through the school to remove all the slanderous posters and dispose of them.

The school also took the matter very seriously, and Wu Youliang went to the nearby police station to report the case, because it involved university students, and the school’s leaders also demanded severe punishment.

Huang Jingli’s cohort of university students were the first to take the college entrance exam after the end of the turbulent times.

Industries across the country were in need of talents, so the nation and the institutions held high expectations for these precious university students.

Such an incident must not be tolerated.

That was one reason. On the other hand, many teachers who had been slandered in those days were extremely disgusted with it. This action brought back memories of those years.

Investigating this matter seemed to give them an outlet for their past grievances.

Nan City University was the best university in Nan City.

The primary duty of the nearby police station was to maintain order in the area, and upon receiving the report, they immediately dispatched several officers to conduct an investigation nearby.

Wu Youliang also provided evidence that Lin Xiaoru had been threatening Huang Jingli, and this was officially recorded at the police station.

Since there was a suspect, the police went directly to Nan City University of Finance and Economics, located three kilometers away, to inquire about Lin Xiaoru.

Lin Xiaoru, who had just finished her class, was called to the teacher’s office. Without evidence, they did not take Lin Xiaoru back to the station but questioned her in the teacher’s office.

A sense of dread hit Lin Xiaoru; she hadn’t expected Huang Jingli to call the police.

She thought Huang Jingli would just silently endure as before.

There must have been someone else stirring up trouble behind the scenes.

He Tiantian, that no-good meddler!

New grudges compounded old ones, and Lin Xiaoru’s resentment towards He Tiantian festered.

However, now in the presence of the authorities, Lin Xiaoru was extremely careful, denying everything. She acknowledged that she and Huang Jingli had been sent to Qijia Village together as educated youths but would not admit to bullying or slandering Huang Jingli.

"If there’s no slander, that’s for the best. We will investigate thoroughly this time," said the police officer before leaving, "Please do not leave Nan City for a month; we will need to come and ask you more questions if necessary."

"Okay, I stand upright, so shadows fall straight," Lin Xiaoru declared boldly. In front of others, she was never nervy.

The teachers beside her also breathed a sigh of relief to see Lin Xiaoru so composed, hoping nothing would go wrong.

The school was meant for learning, and they didn’t want to see such messy troubles. Furthermore, since those admitted to university are hardworking and studious, the teachers didn’t want such issues to affect the students’ futures.

The police split into two groups; one went to investigate Lin Xiaoru, and the other inquired at Nan City University about who posted the flyers.

After questioning the gatekeepers and some security staff, they found some leads. Three young people were involved, but it wasn’t yet certain whether they were students from the city’s universities.

Based on clues and descriptions provided by the security personnel outside and the janitorial staff, the police station roughly sketched the faces of these three individuals.

Using this information, they began to check the areas surrounding the school.

Although they hadn’t found the individuals yet, they indeed cleared some riffraff and vagrants from around Nan City University.

Cui Ying and He Tiantian left school and decided to visit Huang Jingli together.

With Mother Wu’s care, Huang Jingli had recovered somewhat. Still, the school’s doctor said she needed to rest in bed, so Tiantian lent her notes to Jingli every day after school, and Wu Youliang would return them the next morning.

"You’re here! Mom, bring out some apples for them to eat," Jingli said with a smile. Her father-in-law had bought them from Qijia Village; they were exceptionally tasty.

"Sure thing, you girls chat. I’ll go wash the apples," Mother Wu said with a smile. Having He Tiantian and Cui Ying over these past days had improved her daughter-in-law’s spirits considerably.

"Thank you, Aunt Wu," He Tiantian said with a smile, watching Mother Wu leave.

Cui Ying sat beside Huang Jingli and asked, "How are you feeling today?"

"It’s nothing. I feel that my health is much better already," Jingli replied. "The school doctor also said that in another week, I could go back to classes. The exams are in a month, so I need to buckle down."

"Actually, the lectures didn’t cover anything too important. You’ll understand everything once you see the notes," Tiantian said with a smile, hoping that Jingli would prioritize her health and the baby’s wellbeing.

"By the way, Jingli, have you reported the flyer incident? Has the perpetrator been found?" Cui Ying asked. "I saw Teacher Chen today, and he didn’t mention anything!"

Jingli gave a wry smile and said, "I reported it, but they haven’t found anyone. Lin Xiaoru is always cautious; surely, she didn’t post it herself. She must have had someone else do it. Now, they found out that it was three men, but who exactly it was, they haven’t discovered."

"Don’t be afraid. As long as we take action, we will eventually catch Lin Xiaoru red-handed," Tiantian declared. "To deal with Xiaoru, we can’t show any weakness."

"Yes, now that I’ve filed a report and the police have questioned Xiaoru, I expect she’ll be on her best behavior for a while and won’t dare to make a move," Jingli said with a rueful smile. "I can have some peace until the baby is born. Then, if Xiaoru tries to act arrogantly in front of me again, just watch me slap her. I’ll definitely not let this go."

The reason Jingli used to fear Xiaoru wasn’t that she couldn’t stand up to her but because of the excuse that her background wasn’t good, which meant she had to lie low.

Now, the issue of her background was no longer a concern. There was nothing for Jingli to fear from Xiaoru.

If that was the case, then it’s time to see who’s stronger and who’s going to make a scene.

"You’ve got a point," Tiantian nodded. "Whatever happens, you must take good care of yourself. There’s plenty of time ahead for everything else. As for the school and the class, since the school and the teachers have already clarified the situation, you don’t need to worry about being looked at strangely by others."

"Thank you all so much. I often feel fortunate that I spent time with you in Qijia Village as educated youths, and even more that we got into the same university together. Without your testimonies, with Lin Xiaoru around, I’d be damned even if I jumped into the Yellow River," Jingli said, feeling a deeper appreciation for her friends.
