Chapter 722: Chapter 691 People are grouped together, Trust_1
Wu Youliang felt surprised and somewhat puzzled.
"Jingli, isn’t that your fellow townsman?" Wu Youliang asked, recalling that his wife had introduced the woman this way when they bumped into her at their doorstep last time.
He Tiantian and Cui Ying exchanged a surprised look.
So Huang Jingli hadn’t told Wu Youliang the truth yet?
Huang Jingli sighed with a bitter smile, "I haven’t mentioned it to Youliang yet!"
"Mention what?" Wu Youliang asked, "Did that woman bully you?"
"Let’s talk about it when we get home," Huang Jingli said. "Once I tell you, I’ll feel relieved as well."
Seeing his wife’s expression like this, Wu Youliang was anxious and unsettled, fearing she might reveal something terribly wrong.
Once they got home, He Tiantian, Cui Ying, and Huashan headed into the kitchen to cook, leaving the couple alone in the living room to talk.
Huang Jingli explained everything to Wu Youliang in detail.
Wu Youliang was stunned, then, angered, he said, "This is an unfounded accusation. You should have told me the first time that woman threatened you, instead of suffering alone."
"Do you believe me?" Huang Jingli was moved as if she had found a pillar of support.
"Who better to speak on your character than me? You were still a maiden when you were with me," Wu Youliang chuckled, "I would never believe all that nonsense."
"Do you really believe me?" Huang Jingli asked, wanting to be sure now that her mind was unburdened.
Wu Youliang took out a handkerchief to wipe Huang Jingli’s tears and said with a smile, "As the saying goes, ’Birds of a feather flock together.’ He Tiantian, Huo Yingjie, Huashan, and Cui Ying are all noble and upright individuals. If you weren’t like them, how could they be friends with you?"
"Thank you." Huang Jingli no longer had her own family and didn’t want these messy issues to affect her current household.
"It’s okay, I will talk to my parents. An upright person does not fear a crooked shadow, so don’t be afraid of her threats," Wu Youliang encouraged, "Let’s live our life well and ignore that madwoman."
After clearing the air, Wu Youliang joined in to help with the cooking.
"Thank you all for these past few days," Wu Youliang said gratefully. "If it weren’t for you, Jingli might have obsessed over this again."
"It’s nothing. We’re friends, classmates," He Tiantian said. "But still, be cautious. Lin Xiaoru is like sticking plaster – once attached, it’s hard to tear off. You have to be more careful in the future not to fall into her trap."
He Tiantian’s description was unkind but apt.
"Right, she’s a woman, and I won’t stoop to her level. As long as Jingli and I are good, my parents love Jingli, and the school’s teachers understand her, we have nothing to fear," Wu Youliang said, not about to foolishly beat up Lin Xiaoru and give the woman a chance to kick up a fuss.
Doing that would only put him at a disadvantage and he might even end up arrested for assaulting a woman and spend a few days in jail.
"I’m glad you’ve thought it through," Cui Ying said with a smile. "Alright, dinner’s ready. Go call Jingli to eat."
During the meal, Huang Jingli was back to her cheerful self. Having gained her husband’s understanding, she felt unburdened and more relaxed.
Meanwhile, Lin Xiaoru, after leaving, didn’t go far, seething with indignation.
Glancing at her wristwatch and seeing it was nearly time for class, she reluctantly quickened her pace to leave.
Her trip today had been in vain; she hadn’t gotten any money.
Lin Xiaoru looked at her outdated clothes and felt particularly annoyed.
Nowadays, there were many tailor shops where, as long as one had money, one could buy fabric and have clothes made without needing coupons.
But the allowance given out by the school was only enough for her to buy food, it certainly couldn’t satisfy her need to buy clothes.
So she thought of Huang Jingli, and after much effort, she found her.
To her surprise, Huang Jingli was already married, and judging by her clothes, the family conditions should be good, but Huang Jingli seemed blind, being a university student, yet choosing such an ugly looking man!
But it didn’t matter, the man was ugly, but she didn’t have to live with him!
Lin Xiaoru only thought about getting money from Huang Jingli so she could lead a carefree life afterward.
However, she didn’t expect Huang Jingli to turn her back on her and not lend her a single penny.
Hmph, she had plenty of tricks up her sleeve, just wait and see how long Huang Jingli could hold out!
He Tiantian rode her bicycle home from school in the evening, mulling over the day’s events.
If Lin Xiaoru hadn’t come looking for trouble, Tiantian wouldn’t have bothered with her.
Some people are lowly, but she couldn’t stoop to their level and argue with such people.
He Tiantian got home, played with the children for a while, and then went to cook dinner.
Every day was filled with such meaningful activities, and time flew by particularly fast.
In the blink of an eye, Huo Yingjie had been away for a month.
He Tiantian received a letter from Huo Yingjie every two days and would reply to him after receiving his letters.
Today, Huo Ruimin drew an abstract family portrait, with a sun that looked as if it had been nibbled on by a dog, and in the middle, four strangely outlined figures, two adults on the sides and two children in the middle.
Only the few strands of hair on the heads could distinguish between male and female; three short strands were Huo Yingjie and Huo Ruihua, while three long strands represented He Tiantian and Huo Ruimin.
There were some additional hair-like lines on the ground, but these were not hair; they were weeds.
In the corner lay something that looked like a rock, with a stick-like head and two different-sized eyes on top, plus four short legs.
That was Little Rotating Turtle!
"Ruihua, big sister drew a family portrait for Dad, do you have anything you want to send to Dad?" He Tiantian asked, as her son was too reserved and passive, so she took every opportunity to interact with Huo Ruihua as much as possible.
After pondering for a moment, Huo Ruihua ran inside and came out with his broken slingshot, saying, "For Dad!"
This little rascal, always full of schemes.
This wasn’t about giving a gift to Dad; it was obviously about sending it to Huo Yingjie so that he could fix it or make him a new one.
"Alright," He Tiantian took it, "I’ll send it to your dad."
"Mom, when is Dad coming back?" Huo Ruimin hugged his mother’s leg and cooed, "I’ve kissed Dad..." He counted on his fingers, "...I’ve kissed Dad so many times, countless times, but Dad still hasn’t come back."
It had been a month, and every morning when he woke up, and every night before going to sleep, Huo Ruimin would kiss Huo Yingjie’s photo frame.
"Kiss him a hundred more times, and Dad will come back," He Tiantian responded, feeling a bit sour inside.
"A hundred times?" Huo Ruimin was astonished. He stretched out both hands and tried to count but realized he couldn’t, "It’s over, Dad doesn’t love us anymore."
"Why would you say that?" He Tiantian asked curiously, finding the child’s thought process intriguing.
"Because, because a hundred times is too many, and I can’t count that high," Huo Ruimin explained, "If I can’t count, I can’t kiss enough, and if I don’t kiss enough, Dad won’t come."
"Hehe, it’s okay, Ruimin and Mom can learn together, and then you’ll be able to count them," He Tiantian said, redirecting her child’s yearning for Huo Yingjie towards learning.
