Chapter 697: 666 Chapter Joy, Displeasure_1

All these clothes were gifts from He Tiantian as a sign of filial piety.

Jiang Lifang only wore them on special occasions.

Today, returning to her parental home, she wore her best-looking clothes to put her parents at ease.

"Sister-in-law, please don’t say such things," Jiang Lifang said, somewhat embarrassed, "By the way, Wentao, where’s Wenwen?"

"They went out to buy some things and will be back soon. Let’s not just stand here talking, come inside, it’s warm," Zhang Hui called out.

Following behind, Huo Zhekun stepped forward and said, "Sister-in-law, you’ve worked hard."

Huo Yingjie and He Tiantian, each holding a plump baby, said, "Hello to Auntie!"

"Good, good, Lifang, you’re truly fortunate," said Zhang Hui excitedly. "Your sister-in-law and her family are all so good-looking." Rubbing her hands together, she added, "Oh dear, I didn’t bring any gifts. Come inside, and I’ll get something for the children."

Jiang Lifang linked arms with her sister-in-law Zhang Hui and entered the house together.

Old Master Jiang and the Old Madam heard the noise outside and were about to come out when the door opened.

"Dad, Mom!" Jiang Lifang ran to her parents excitedly, "I’ve missed you so much."

"We’ve missed you too," Old Madam Jiang said with a smile. "We’ve been corresponding in these past few years without meeting. Although it’s regrettable, everyone being healthy is already a great fortune. Don’t cry now, you are a grandmother yourself now. Wouldn’t it be embarrassing to cry in front of the younger generation?"

Huo Zhekun stepped forward and respectfully said, "Father-in-law, Mother-in-law!"

He Tiantian and Huo Yingjie stepped forward and said, "Grandpa, Grandma."

"Good, all good children," said Old Master Jiang. "Come sit inside, don’t stand out here."

Once everyone was seated, Old Madam Jiang took out two gold locks from the house and gave one to each child, and also gave He Tiantian a pair of red jade bracelets.

"Mom, these gifts are too generous," Jiang Lifang said, feeling embarrassed and not wanting her mother to spend so much.

"Since we couldn’t attend the wedding, and now that you are back, we had to give you a meeting gift; otherwise, it would be embarrassing," said Old Madam Jiang. "Tiantian is a good daughter-in-law; you must treat her well."

Upon hearing her mother praise He Tiantian, Jiang Lifang said proudly, "She is the daughter-in-law I chose, of course, I like her, and we get along very well. By the way, where is the elder brother?"

"Your elder brother took the two kids out to buy things, in case relatives come and there’s nothing at home," Old Madam Jiang explained.

"Mom, didn’t you say you would be back before the New Year? Why did you delay until now?" Jiang Lifang asked.

"No big deal, your father just caught a cold and missed the New Year. We only managed to come after that," Old Madam Huo explained.

Worried upon hearing that her father had caught a cold, Jiang Lifang asked, "Dad, how are you now?"

"It’s nothing; I took medicine and it’s all better now. It’s just your mother and elder brother making a fuss; otherwise, we would have been home before the New Year," grumbled Old Master Jiang, clearly annoyed.

"Dad, you’re getting older; you can’t be careless. It’s always better to be cautious," Jiang Lifang said. "How about this, tomorrow I’ll take you to the hospital for a check-up, so we can have peace of mind."

"I’m fine, in good health," insisted Old Master Jiang. "You don’t need to take me, and besides, who wants to go to the hospital during the New Year’s? It’s just a little cold, nothing serious."

"Alright, Lifang, you don’t need to worry; your father is in good health," said Old Madam Jiang, just as a hearty laugh came from outside.

Jiang Guyou, along with his son and daughter, returned from the supply and marketing cooperative. Having heard that his sister had arrived, he put down his things and came in.

Another round of pleasantries followed.

"Yingjie, you’re doing well," Jiang Wentao laughed. "You’re more impressive than me; I don’t even have a wife yet, and you already have two children."

"Cousin, you need to step it up," Huo Yingjie said. "After all, you’re not getting any younger, and Grandpa and Grandma are eager to hold a great-grandchild."

"I’m trying, I’m really trying," Jiang Wentao said. "Wait until I get married, and I’ll have you all over for the wedding feast."

"Of course," Huo Yingjie said. "By the way, how’s Wenwen doing?"

"Cousin, I’m preparing to apply for university and aiming to get into one in Yanjing," Jiang Wenwen said with a smile, having always wanted to return to Yanjing, and finally making it happen.

"Universities in Yanjing are not easy to get into, so you’ll have to work hard!" Huo Yingjie said. The university entrance exams are becoming more standardized and the difficulty is increasing each year. But with hard work, exceptional individuals will always make it into university.

"I will," Jiang Wenwen said. "Cousin, you’re so lucky, with such a beautiful wife and a pair of adorable sons and daughters."

"Yeah, I’m envious too!" Jiang Wentao said. "Looks like I can’t focus solely on work anymore. I should also find someone and have a few adorable kids myself."

"If you had thought this way earlier, there’d already be a sister-in-law and little nieces and nephews running around, even able to fetch soy sauce," Jiang Wenwen chided, though such remarks were usually made by the elders. Today, she couldn’t help herself; her cousin’s two children were just too cute.

Fair and tender, chubby, pretty, and lovely.

He Tiantian chatted with everyone, and seeing her aunt busy cooking alone, she went over to help.

Jiang Wenwen, seeing her cousin’s wife helping out, couldn’t just sit around and followed suit.

He Tiantian’s diligence earned her praise from Aunt Zhang Hui.

Jiang Wenwen was a cheerful and lively girl who got along well with He Tiantian’s temperament. They chatted while they worked.

And in no time, they became familiar with each other.

After lunch, it wasn’t until past ten in the afternoon that Jiang Lifang and her family left.

Although she wanted to stay, their large family would be too much trouble, and she didn’t want to wear out her sister-in-law. They decided to return today and come back tomorrow.

Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, it was the sixth day of the new year.

It was the day Huo Zhekun’s family would leave,

Before departing, Jiang Lifang took her family to her parent’s house to say goodbye.

Old Master Jiang asked his son, Jiang Wentao, to invite the family of Jiang’s second uncle over for a simple meal.

It was a good opportunity, since Jiang Wenhui’s boyfriend, Liu Chuanqiang, was also there and could join them.

Jiang Wenhui, the only daughter of Jiang’s second uncle, was doted on and turned out to be somewhat prideful.

All along, everything in her family had centered around her, and in school, she was the object of everyone’s envy.

But in front of He Tiantian, she felt like an ugly duckling, drab and colorless.

Having met He Tiantian before at the Overseas Chinese Restaurant, her envy only grew upon seeing her again.

"Cousin-in-law, your dress is so pretty. Where did you buy it?" asked Jiang Wenhui with envy shining in her eyes.

Even though she felt a bit of jealousy and discomfort, she couldn’t help but inquire, wanting to buy one for herself.

He Tiantian smiled and shook her head, "I don’t even know where it was bought, it’s all sent to me by my grandmother and parents."

Jiang Wenhui smiled and said, "Cousin-in-law, you’re so pretty that anything looks good on you."

"Nonsense," He Tiantian chuckled, then heard her child crying. "You guys chat, I’ll go take care of the kids."
