Chapter 695: Chapter 664 The True Essence of Love--Persistence_1
She was no longer a child.
After becoming a parent and putting herself in other people’s shoes, Zhao Huanhuan was able to understand some things.
Upon hearing this, Zhao Huanhuan nodded and said, "Thank you, great-grandmother. I will try my best to ease my relationship with my mother-in-law. I am Yingjun’s wife, and the mother-in-law is Yingjun’s mother. If we do not get along, the one who ends up unhappy and aggrieved is Yingjun."
"Yes, being caught in the middle is really uncomfortable," said Old Madam Huo. It’s very hard to expect the Boss’s daughter-in-law, who is already of considerable age, to change. Thankfully, Zhao Huanhuan is a good kid who is thinking about making changes.
Hopefully, this transformation can bring more laughter and fewer disputes to the family.
Jiang Lifang had told He Tiantian not to get involved in the affairs of the old house, so He Tiantian had always kept this in mind.
Since everyone was interested in the braised meat she made, He Tiantian began preparing for it after the items Old Madam Huo ordered had arrived.
In order not to interfere with the cooking in the kitchen, He Tiantian had specially set up a small shed next to the storeroom in the backyard, placing a coal stove there with a large pot on top to start simmering the meat.
Since the pig heads and the chicken and duck meat were all cleaned thoroughly, He Tiantian merely washed them briefly with hot water, adjusted the seasoning, and threw them into the pot to cook.
From morning until afternoon, the aroma of meat occasionally wafted from the Huo family’s backyard.
When Old Master Huo came out for a walk and smelled the fragrance, he specifically came over to ask, "Tiantian, what is this?"
He Tiantian and Huo Yingjie were in the backyard watching the stove while also taking the child out for some sun and play.
"Grandfather, this is Tiantian’s secret recipe for braised meat. It will be ready to eat in a little while," Huo Yingjie said, very confident in the taste of the family’s braised meat.
"Hehe, not bad, really fragrant," Old Master Huo chuckled. "This aroma reminds me of when I was a child, smelling the stewed meat during the landlord’s family’s New Year celebrations..."
This scent triggered the deepest food memories in Old Master Huo’s mind.
"After you’ve tried it, you’ll find it even more fragrant than those," Huo Yingjie chuckled and took out a small knife to cut a piece for his grandfather. "How about you taste it now?"
"Then let me have a taste," Old Master Huo nodded again and again. He had always been a man who didn’t concern himself with trifles, and now that he was older, he did as he pleased at home even more.
Old Master Huo placed the piece of meat, the size of a fingertip, in his mouth and savored it carefully.
After a while, Old Master Huo finally nodded and said, "The flavor is very good; it’s the most delicious braised meat I’ve ever had. You guys keep a good watch here; I’ll go back to the room to find a few bottles of good wine. Tonight, us men will have a good few drinks."
"Sure!" laughed Huo Yingjie. "I’ll have to drink more of Grandfather’s treasured wine."
Old Master Huo rushed back to the front yard, excited to select the wine for the evening.
After the old master had left, He Tiantian chuckled softly and said, "Brother Yingjie, grandfather is quite funny."
"Yeah, grandfather is very open-minded, and grandmother is very strict. I also wonder how they fell in love," Huo Yingjie laughed. His grandfather and grandmother had very different personalities, and sometimes he didn’t understand how two such different people could live happily together for a lifetime.
"Hehe, maybe it’s fate," He Tiantian smiled. "As long as they both love each other and can give and take a little, naturally they can be together for a lifetime. Besides, their relationship has gone through the test of life and death in blood and fire, making it even more indestructible."
Love comes in myriad forms, each person’s love is different.
The only commonality is that love is not eternal; those who manage to walk together to the end are simply the ones who persist after the dazzling light of love has faded away.
A lifetime of love is merely about remembering the love of one’s youth, making a promise, and then supporting each other into old age.
It’s that simple, persistence.
"Hehe, not only will we be together until old age, but also through lifetimes to come," Huo Yingjie whispered softly, his voice so quiet it was as if he was talking to himself.
"I don’t know about lifetimes, but what I can grasp is this lifetime," He Tiantian said, "In this lifetime, I will love you dearly, love you forever, love our children."
"Good!" Huo Yingjie chuckled and gently embraced He Tiantian.
Huo Ruimin, Huo Ruihua, and Huo Ruixiang were playing nearby, occasionally glancing at their parents and secretly giggling.
When evening came, He Tiantian’s special recipe of marinated meat was served.
There were three plates: marinated pig’s head meat, marinated chicken, and marinated duck.
Old Master Huo, with his sons and grandsons, drank white liquor, said to be specially supplied, while the women sipped fruit wine.
This was the wine that He Tiantian had brought back from Qijia Village and taken to Yanjing with her on two separate occasions.
After dinner and wine, Old Master Huo summoned his sons and grandsons to the study.
In the latter half of the year, the second son made quite an impression, and Old Master Huo was greatly pleased.
"Zhekun, Yingjie, have you two ever thought about returning to Yanjing?" Old Master Huo said. There would be more opportunities in Yanjing, especially now that the top leader valued the second son; it was an opportunity not to be missed.
"Yeah, little brother. If you come to Yanjing, we brothers can also support each other," Huo Zheqian said with a smile, hoping his younger brother would come over to help him.
"Uncle, you may not know this, but people at work really admire me. They never expected me to have such an impressive uncle who could write such influential articles, leaving a legacy for the ages!" Huo Yingjun exclaimed, as his supervisor had become even more courteous to him because of his uncle.
Hearing this, Huo Zhekun smiled and said, "Thank you, father, and big brother for your good intentions. But as you know, I’ve grown accustomed to working locally, and right now it’s a crucial stage of experimentation. My five-year plan has already been approved by the leadership. It’s a pivotal moment, so I’ll continue working in the local area. Once I achieve some results, I will truly combine theory and practice. When that time comes, transferring over with that capital will be even more valuable."
Old Master Huo listened and, although somewhat disappointed, respected his son’s decision and nodded, "Hmm, since you don’t wish to return to Yanjing, then focus on doing good work locally and achieve results. Coming back later is also good."
Seeing that his father reacted this way, Huo Zheqian no longer felt he could press his younger brother.
Seventy percent of the Huo Family’s resources had been allocated to him; returning to the capital could potentially increase tensions.
"Little brother, since you don’t want to return to Yanjing, I won’t force you. If you face any difficulties in the local area, you must tell the family. No matter what, father and I are in Yanjing and can always pull some strings for you," Huo Zheqian said with a smile. The better his little brother did locally, the more it reflected well on him as the older brother!
"Thank you, big brother," Zhekun said. He didn’t want to return to the capital partly because of the leader’s instructions, and partly because he did not want to occupy the Huo Family’s resources in Yanjing unknowingly.
"Uncle has the talent to achieve results anywhere," Huo Yingjun said. "I need to work hard too. By the way, little brother, you’re already in your second year. After one more semester, you’ll probably be starting your internship. Where do you plan to work? At a scientific research institute, or somewhere else?"
