Chapter 656: Chapter 625 Winking, No Involvement_1
They offered shipping, which greatly facilitated Tiantian He.
After packing and paying the postage, Tiantian He and Yingjie Huo carried today’s purchases back to the Huo Family’s Old Mansion.
They returned home with a full load.
The good mood from their shopping spree continued to excite Tiantian He.
Having money to spend and not being able to finish spending it, these two aspects truly are the most beautiful things in the world.
Tiantian He had now profoundly realized this and had grown fond of the feeling of having money. Once she was able, she vowed to open a store and earn money; she was certain that spending her own hard-earned cash would bring even more satisfaction.
"I see you quite like things here. When we have time, let’s come back to buy some more and ship them to Nan City," Yingjie Huo suggested. Today, Tiantian He was only thinking about others, completely forgetting about herself.
Tiantian He nodded and said, "Yeah, yeah, that’s right. After all, we have a lot of cheques and so much money. If we don’t spend it now, what are we waiting for!"
Yingjie Huo’s salary and allowances were enough for the basic living expenses of their family of four.
Grandma often sent her money, so Tiantian He wasn’t short of cash.
If it weren’t for the unclear policies, Tiantian He would’ve already taken the money to do business.
She might not know how to do other things, but she could make marinated meat.
She would be responsible for the recipe and the funding, and she’d hire others to do the work while she sat at home, collecting money and making it grow.
Arriving home, Tiantian He asked Yingjie Huo to take out their things, placing some in the living room and the rest in their room.
Tiantian He and Yingjie Huo went to Grandma Wang’s room, where the two children were playing on the carpet.
Seeing Tiantian He, Ruimin Huo and Ruihua Huo both crawled over, wanting their mother’s embrace.
"Muah muah!" Tiantian He squatted down to hug her daughter, kissing her twice, then picked up her son to kiss him a few more times. "Brother Yingjie, come and look after the kids for a while, so mom and grandma Wang can rest. I’ll go to the kitchen and help with cooking."
Originally, there were two maids in the house, but one had family matters and couldn’t help during the New Year’s, leaving only one who couldn’t handle the numerous family members. So Chunli Song and Lifang Jiang often came over to help.
Huanhuan Zhao was out early and returned late every day, having no time to do housework, so Tiantian He, as the granddaughter-in-law, had to step up.
"Okay, go ahead," Yingjie Huo said. "I’ll take care of the children."
Tiantian He went to her room to change into her comfortable and warm home clothes.
In the kitchen, the maid was cooking while Tiantian He went over to help, which indeed sped things up a bit.
Chunli Song was upset by Old Madam Huo’s words today and hadn’t come down from upstairs all afternoon.
Lifang Jiang didn’t want to come down to avoid encountering her mother-in-law and discussing the right and wrong of her sister-in-law, finding it awkward. She stayed upstairs looking after the children.
After dinner, Lifang Jiang gave Tiantian He a signal, urging her to quickly go upstairs to her room to look after the children and not to stay down below.
Although Tiantian He didn’t know what had happened at home that afternoon, she could sense that the atmosphere was somewhat odd.
During the New Year, why were everyone’s expressions so strange?
However, she was a junior member of the family and also a new daughter-in-law.
Tiantian bid the elders goodnight and then went upstairs to take the children.
Just after ten o’clock at night, Yingjie returned to the room.
"What happened at home today?" Tiantian had been forcing herself to stay awake, rubbing her eyes, and hadn’t slept. She wanted to wait for Yingjie to come back and ask about the situation at home.
Even though she knew it wasn’t closely related to her, understanding the situation would prevent her from violating any family taboos or offending anyone.
"Haven’t slept yet?" Yingjie asked in surprise, as Tiantian would usually be asleep by this time on any normal day.
"No, I haven’t slept," Tiantian said. "Earlier, grandma was making gestures at me, so I hurried upstairs without knowing what had happened below."
"Hehe, it’s really nothing big," Yingjie said with a light chuckle. "It was just Great-Aunt making up stories about my older sister-in-law in front of grandmother. Grandmother reprimanded Great-Aunt, and my mother was present at the time. Great-Aunt must have felt dissatisfied and lost face, so the atmosphere at home was a bit strange this afternoon. But it’s nothing to worry about; tomorrow is New Year’s Eve, and after a good night’s sleep, everything will be fine by morning."
"Oh, so it was about that!" Tiantian nodded. "I also noticed that Great-Aunt and my sister-in-law do not have a good relationship. They usually just greet each other and hardly ever chat."
"Yes, my older brother also complained to me that Great-Aunt and my sister-in-law do not get along, and it’s awkward for him to be in the middle," Yingjie said. "I am really grateful that you get along well with my mom, and you both are understanding. I’m lucky not to be caught in the middle of conflicts."
"We’re family!" Tiantian said. "We got along well before, so there’s no reason we can’t get along now that we are family. Every family has its own issues, but since we’re family, a bit of mutual understanding solves everything."
"That’s why you’re the best," Yingjie said, kissing Tiantian’s forehead.
"Alright, it’s late. You should hurry and wash up," Tiantian urged. As for these family affairs, knowing was enough for her; she would never interfere or say a word about them.
The next morning, Tiantian made some steamed cakes according to the ingredients she had bought. They tasted great and were not greasy.
The Huo Family’s three children, Ruixiang, Ruimin, and Ruihua, all loved them. Old Madam Huo and Grandma Wang, who were elderly and had bad teeth, also enjoyed the cakes.
Huanhuan finally had a holiday.
Whatever Tiantian did, Huanhuan would do the same, as she never spent time alone with her mother-in-law, Song Chunli. Fortunately, since Tiantian was taking care of children and so was Huanhuan, it didn’t seem out of place.
Tiantian pretended not to know anything and interacted as usual.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, even more people came to pay a New Year visit to the Huo Family than before.
The Huo Family greeted the guests as usual, neither too warmly nor too coldly.
As public figures, they inevitably wore various masks.
However, this was just a façade. The Huo Family kept an internal "grudge book," noting those who had betrayed and kicked the Huo Family when it was down in ’75, as well as those who had stood by and watched.
Hard times reveal true friends.
The Huo Family had not forgotten those who helped them and planned to repay their kindness over time.
On the second day of the New Year, it was time to visit the maternal family.
Song Chunli and Zheqian visited the Song Family; Lifang and Zhekun went to the Jiang Family; Huanhuan and Yingjun went to the Zhao Family. Only Tiantian, whose maternal family was overseas and whose domestic maternal family was in Qijia Village, couldn’t visit either place.
Tiantian felt a bit envious. Yingjie whispered in her ear, "When we have a holiday and the child is a bit older, wherever you want to go, I’ll accompany you."
"Great!" Tiantian smiled. Knowing that her husband cared about her feelings warmed her heart.
Tiantian and Yingjie stayed at home, helping out, which made Old Madam Huo like Tiantian even more and feel more compassion for her.
