Chapter 583: Chapter 552: Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law Open Their Hearts, Too Inhumane!_1

Huo Zhekun went to get a pot of hot water and made tea for everyone.

Jiang Lifang took out sunflower seeds, raisins, and nuts from her pocket and placed them on the little table beside the train seat. "Tiantian, have some sunflower seeds. It’s quite boring on the road, eating some seeds can relieve the boredom," she said.

He Tiantian smiled, "Thank you, Aunt Jiang!"

"Haha, Tiantian is still not used to it yet!" Jiang Liping laughed, remembering how she often used to call wrong when she first got married.

He Tiantian was startled and said with a blushing face, "Sorry, Mom, I..."

It indeed felt a bit unusual to suddenly change the way she addressed her.

"That’s alright, we’re all family here, no need to be formal," Jiang Lifang said with a smile, "Yingjie is my only son, and I’ve always treated you like my daughter. Now that you’re my daughter-in-law, it’s not much different. If you have anything to say or any dissatisfaction, let’s talk about it openly, instead of guessing what the other person is thinking behind their backs. Sometimes when you guess, misunderstandings can happen."

He Tiantian nodded, "I’ll remember that, Mom."

"Good!" Jiang Liping said with a smile, "You probably know what your father-in-law and I are like even better than Yingjie does. Family shouldn’t have to speak in a roundabout way, so whatever issues you young couple have, discuss them. If you can’t decide or have disagreements, you can talk to us about them."

Huo Yingjie nodded, "Got it, Mom, here, you must be thirsty from eating the seeds, have some water."

That cheeky boy, she had barely said a few words, and he was already taking her side.

"Here, Tiantian, you have some too," Huo Zhekun said, worried that his wife might be the sensitive type, so he quickly changed the subject.

Where others couldn’t see, Jiang Lifang glared at Huo Zhekun. Was she really that petty?

After eating some seeds and drinking water, it was already almost nine o’clock.

He Tiantian felt a bit sleepy, so she took a towel and a cup to the bathrooms at either end of the train to brush her teeth and wash her face.

Huo Yingjie followed her closely, helping her carry her things.

"Look at how clingy the young couple is, as if they’re one person," Jiang Lifang said enviously, reminded of her own honeymoon.

Huo Zhekun winked, "Hehe, we’ve been through that time too. Just like now, I’m still very clingy with you, aren’t I?"

"Shameless, you’re already a father-in-law; you can’t be like that anymore," Jiang Lifang said, pinching her husband’s arm.

If the daughter-in-law saw this, how embarrassing would it be!

"It’s okay, I’m only like this in front of you," Huo Zhekun chuckled, taking hold of his wife’s mischievously moving hand.

When He Tiantian and Huo Yingjie came back, Huo Zhekun and Jiang Lifang also went to freshen up and get ready to rest.

He Tiantian climbed onto the second bunk, took off her coat, covered herself with the blanket, faced outwards, and looked at Huo Yingjie across from her.

If it wasn’t for their parents being around, he would have really loved to hold He Tiantian in his arms. Even though the bunk was narrow, he could serve as a cushion for his wife.

"Good night," He Tiantian said with a smile, puckering her lips and blowing two goodnight kisses to Huo Yingjie through the air.

Looking at He Tiantian’s rosy lips, Huo Yingjie felt a surge of warmth in his heart.

To be sleeping in separate beds on their second day of marriage!

It was inhumanely cruel!

After teasing Huo Yingjie, He Tiantian turned around, her back facing him, and went to sleep.

In fact, this was also good; at least she could have a proper rest for the night.

Even though she had experienced pleasure afterward, the pain of their first time was a deep memory for her.

Huo Zhekun and Jiang Lifang returned and also settled down to rest.

At night, the train moved intermittently, stopping as passengers disembarked and others got on board.

Regardless, none of this disturbed the exhausted He Tiantian, who slept very soundly.

Early the next morning, He Tiantian woke up to the long whistle of the train.

Down below, Jiang Lifang and Huo Zhekun were already up, they had heated some water and were drinking it.

He Tiantian put on her coat and climbed down from her bunk.

"Good morning, Mom and Dad!" He Tiantian said politely, still feeling a bit uncomfortable with the appellations, but she managed not to make a mistake.

"Good morning to you too, Tiantian. How did you sleep last night?" Jiang Lifang asked. Middle-aged and prone to less sleep, she especially struggled to rest with the banging and clanging at night and usually woke up early.

He Tiantian smiled and said, "I slept pretty well! Where’s Brother Yingjie?"

"He went over there to wash up and use the facilities," Jiang Lifang said. "You should go quickly too; the food vendor will be here soon for breakfast."

"Alright," He Tiantian replied, grabbing her towel.

She ran into Huo Yingjie just as he was coming out, and he waited for her so they could return together.

Just as they finished tidying up, the train staff came by with the food trolley.

They took out their meal boxes, each taking a serving of rice, two soups, and two dishes. In the enamel jars, there were also tea eggs kept warm with hot water.

He Tiantian was too embarrassed to eat too much, managing to feel only half full, but thankfully, she had quite a few pastries in her bag to snack on later to stave off hunger.

Huo Yingjie knew about He Tiantian’s appetite and by midday, he had ordered a double portion of food for her: four dishes and two soups.

Knowing her own appetite was large, He Tiantian, despite feeling embarrassed, shamelessly ate up the double portion of rice. It wasn’t worth going hungry over pride.

Fortunately, Jiang Lifang and Huo Zhekun had heard about He Tiantian’s appetite beforehand and simply smiled kindly without saying much. A big appetite wasn’t anything of concern—it wasn’t as if they couldn’t afford the food.

Furthermore, a good appetite is considered a blessing!

It indicates good health, and good health means any children born are likely to be healthy too!

Although Huo Yingjie and He Tiantian had just gotten married, in Jiang Lifang’s heart, she had already imagined countless times her grandchildren sweetly calling her grandma.

An hour after eating, they finally arrived at Nan City by a little after 7 p.m.

Secretary Guo, having received the telegram, had calculated the time accurately and driven over to pick them up.

Outside, Secretary Guo smoked a cigarette and couldn’t help but feel relieved that the Huo Family had weathered its crisis; otherwise, his own career might have been at stake.

From the beginning, he was a small fry aligned with the Huo Family’s faction.

Being in the shade of a big tree is good for comfort, and once he had put in enough time, he could be transferred out to become the head of a county.

Had the Huo Family fallen, he reckoned he would spend his life as a low-ranking clerk, toiling until retirement.

Luckily, the crisis had passed.

Secretary Guo personally went to the platform to pick them up and saw Huo Zhekun with his family and an additional girl descending from the train. He recognized her as He Tiantian once he got a clear view.

As Huo Zhekun’s trusted secretary, he naturally knew Huo Yingjie’s fiancée.

"Boss, let me take your luggage," Secretary Guo offered, taking the bags from Huo Zhekun’s hands—it wouldn’t do for the boss to carry his own luggage.

"Thanks, Xiao Guo!" Huo Zhekun replied with a smile, not standing on ceremony with Secretary Guo.

Secretary Guo carried a large bag on each side as they walked to the car!!.

Secretary Guo drove, with Huo Zhekun in the passenger seat, and Jiang Lifang, He Tiantian, and Huo Yingjie squeezed into the back seat.
