Chapter 450: Chapter 421 Obstacle_1

Third Grandma Qi spoke to these people in advance, worrying that they might not get used to everything.

Hard conditions could be overcome, but if there were rifts between people, it could lead to disharmony within the family.

Anna smiled and said, "Mom, it’s true that we’re a bit unaccustomed, but this is our home, and we will overcome it. You don’t need to worry about us."

"Yes, Mom, don’t worry," Shuliang said, knowing that even if he wanted to stay here longer, it wouldn’t be possible.

Besides, this was where he had grown up, and he was used to it.

He was just worried about the two children.

Zhenghan and Zhengmin indeed found it hard to adjust, especially when it came to using the toilet, they were particularly uncomfortable, fearful of falling into the latrine pit, and also concerned about the smell.

However, they were both good children who didn’t want to upset their grandmother, and they nodded in agreement, "Grandma, don’t worry, we’ll get used to it in a couple of days."

"That’s good to hear," Third Grandma Qi said with a smile, comforted by these children.

Bai Qiongyu chuckled and added, "Sister Qi, we’d prepared ourselves mentally before coming; you don’t have to worry so much."

The living conditions here were indeed poor, but there was no helping it.

Compared to the pain of missing loved ones, the inconveniences of life seemed trivial.

Hearing you all say this comforts me a bit," Third Grandma Qi said. She had grown accustomed to living here, and even though they were the closest of kin, she would feel sad if they couldn’t tolerate this place.

He Tiantian had boiled two large pots of water for everyone to wash up, saying, "Alright, it’s getting late, the hot water is ready, you should all wash up quickly. We’ve been busy all day since getting off the train, and we’re all very tired."

As the host, He Tiantian had to take care of these visitors; although she wasn’t Third Grandma Qi’s biological granddaughter, she had lived here for a long time and was used to doing chores, so looking after everyone fell to He Tiantian.

But these were her relatives, and she was happy to do it.

He Tiantian had already labeled the wooden tubs with names, so that they wouldn’t use the wrong ones.

After a simple wash-up, everyone went back to their rooms to rest.

Lying on the hard plank bed covered with bedding at night, Shuliang held Anna in his arms and said, "Anna, I’m sorry for the discomfort."

"My dear, I’m not uncomfortable at all," Anna replied. "This is your home, your roots. It’s the place you M people value the most, and as your wife, I will accept it."

"Thank you, marrying you is the greatest happiness of my life," Shuliang said, moved. In his heart, Anna was like a princess living in a castle, and he had promised his father-in-law not to let Anna suffer.

The material life here was something Anna had never encountered before.

"Me too," Anna said with a smile. "My dear, I’m tired, let’s sleep."

In Tiantian’s room, thankfully the bed was big enough for three people.

Though a bit tight, Bai Qiongyu and Xianglan were happy because it brought them closer to He Tiantian.

He Tiantian was busy fetching hot water for Bai Qiongyu and Xianglan to wash their faces and feet, taking care of their personal hygiene.

Getting into bed, Bai Qiongyu felt a thrill at the idea of sleeping together with He Tiantian.

By the time He Tiantian finished her chores and came in, half an hour had already passed.

He Tiantian changed into her pajamas and crawled into bed.

Now, they were using a thin comforter. Three people shared two blankets, to make sure there was enough.

Once in bed, He Tiantian saw her grandmother holding a book, reading by the light of an oil lamp with her glasses on.

"Grandma, here there are no bright electric lights, only dim oil lamps that really shouldn’t be used for reading at night; it can damage your eyes," He Tiantian said. "If you want to read, you can do it during the daytime tomorrow."

Bai Qiongyu closed the book and patted the space beside her, "Come on, get to sleep."

He Tiantian lifted the blanket and got in next to her grandmother, then blew out the oil lamp.

Xianglan slept at the other end, while He Tiantian and Bai Qiongyu shared the other end, which made it a bit more spacious.

"Tiantian, you used to live in Country M, do you find it easy to adjust after coming back?" Bai Qiongyu asked. Today, she had noticed He Tiantian buzzing around like a busy little bee, incessantly working.

"There’s nothing to adjust to; I lived here for such a long time," He Tiantian said. "I must say though, life in Country M is convenient."

"Do you want to come back with me this time?" Bai Qiongyu asked. She came to acknowledge her kin on this trip.

Provided her son and his family were willing, she would pay any price to take them away.

He Tiantian thought for a moment and said, "Grandma, I don’t want to go."

"Do you not want to leave your parents?" Bai Qiongyu asked. "I just talked to your dad and told him that if they are willing, I could take all of you with me. As you know, I have the means to do it."

If her parents also agreed to go to Country M, He Tiantian’s excuse for not wanting to leave them would seem somewhat far-fetched.

He Tiantian knew very clearly in her heart that if she went with her grandmother, she might never be able to be with Huo Yingjie in this lifetime.

His work could prevent her political review from being approved.

Even if Huo Yingjie gave up his job now, it was too late, for he had been involved in many major projects and knew too many secrets.

This put He Tiantian in a difficult position, not knowing how to respond.

"Ah, I know what’s on your mind," Bai Qiongyu said. "You’re worried that if you go to Country M, you and Huo Yingjie will gradually drift apart and lose your connection."

He Tiantian gave an awkward smile and said, "Grandma, the relationship between Huo Yingjie and me won’t change because of time or distance. What stands in our way now are political factors."

"To disregard everything for love, just like I did when I was young," Bai Qiongyu said. "I was able to sneak off to Nan City with your grandfather behind my father’s back. I understand that love makes you fearless, so I won’t stop you. Just remember, if you ever get tired or feel wronged, don’t forget that you still have parents, a grandmother here, always welcoming you back."

"Thank you, Grandma!" He Tiantian said. Being with Huo Yingjie was the obsession of her lifetime.

Even if it meant darting into the flames like a moth, she was prepared to experience it.

"Don’t thank me," Bai Qiongyu said. "Because I know you’re like me; once you’ve made a decision, you won’t easily change it, especially when it comes to love. Unless you are hurt, in pain, you’ll never look back."

"Grandma, you’re so kind," He Tiantian said with a smile, praising her grandmother.

Her family respected her choices, avoiding putting her in difficult positions, yet they always remained the warm haven for He Tiantian.

Overhearing the conversation between grandmother and granddaughter, Xianglan chuckled and said, "Alright, it’s late. Let’s go to sleep, so we don’t struggle to get up early tomorrow!"

"Then, Grandma, Grandma Xianglan, good night," He Tiantian whispered, closing her eyes.

"Good night," Bai Qiongyu said; her emotions had indeed been through a rollercoaster today, and she was truly tired.
