Chapter 383: Chapter 354 Wheelchair, Group Photo_1

Qi Zhengmin’s complaints were etched in Third Grandma Qi’s heart, but in front of others, she didn’t find it appropriate to ask directly. She decided to wait for an opportunity to ask him alone.

After the performance was over and dinner concluded, the group didn’t immediately return home, instead continuing to stroll through Chinatown.

As they passed by a tailor’s shop, Third Grandma Qi halted in her tracks.

Back in her homeland, one couldn’t wear qipaos, let alone find a shop that made them.

Qi Shuliang understood that his mother had always cherished beauty from her youth. Even when the family’s situation declined, Third Grandma Qi still made her clothes look more attractive. Even the patches on her clothes were cut into shapes of flowers, rather than the large, square ones like others wore.

"Mom, let’s go. Your son will have clothes made for you," Qi Shuliang said with a smile, knowing that this tailor’s shop specialized in handmade garments, most famously qipaos.

The qipao was what Mother loved the most!

He hadn’t been filial enough in the past, but he would make up for it from now on. Whatever style she fancied, that’s what they would make!

His words were precisely what Third Grandma Qi wished to hear, and she nodded, "Okay, I will get two qipaos made. Oh, why don’t we all have them made and take a family portrait together? Wouldn’t that be nice?"

"Certainly!" Qi Shuliang responded, "As long as you like it, Mom, we’ll do it."

Hearing her son’s words, Third Grandma Qi was overjoyed and entered the tailor’s shop with the aid of her son’s arm.

Seeing the customers arrive, an apprentice came forward to greet them.

"Madam, whatever style you prefer, we have it all!" the apprentice announced, "Please, come inside!"

"Thank you," Third Grandma Qi said with a smile, proceeding further into the shop.

The shop was not very large but was tidily arranged with a touch of elegance.

At that moment, a woman in her forties came over with a smile, "Madam, we have mannequins over here with various styles on display."

Third Grandma Qi followed and glanced over the selection, choosing a claret-colored one that had a richer hue than bright red and had a shimmering effect. She also liked another one with printed patterns, the Magnolia Prints in Blue, which had more vibrant flowers than the ones she had owned before and looked beautiful.

"Anna, would you like to buy one too?" Third Grandma Qi asked, concerned that Anna might not like wearing qipaos because she was a Westerner.

"These dresses are beautiful; I would like to buy one as well. Mom, which do you think would suit me?" Anna said, seeing her mother-in-law’s fondness for qipaos and recognizing that such garments, indeed, had a beautiful, silky feel like that of a baby’s skin.

Perhaps her Huaxia husband would also appreciate seeing her in a qipao.

Third Grandma Qi appraised Anna from head to toe, with her tall frame and fair skin, and picked out a vibrant red checkered one, saying, "This one is nice; it will definitely look good on you."

Anna nodded, "Then I’ll take this one!"

"Grandma, Grandma, I want one too. Please help me choose one; I want to look beautiful as well," Qi Zhengmin pleaded from the side, finding the clothes very attractive and wanting to wear them.

In the end, Third Grandma Qi chose a medium-length pink qipao for Qi Zhengmin, which was pretty and cute.

He Tiantian’s qipao was rice-white, fresh, elegant, and curvaceously charming.

Qi Shuliang hadn’t worn a changshan, a traditional Chinese robe, for a long time, and he and his son each had one made.

After paying the deposit, they were to return in a week to collect the clothing.

The pleasant weekend passed, and Qi Shuliang went back to work, Anna to a charity event, and Qi Zhengmin and Qi Zhenghan were off to school, leaving only Third Grandma Qi and He Tiantian at home.

With nothing to do, He Tiantian suggested, "Grandma, how about I take you out for a walk?"

"No need, my feet are bound; I can only walk around the house. Walking too much outside tires my feet," Third Grandma Qi sighed, "How wonderful it would be to have ’big feet.’ If I was in good health, I could walk a great distance without feeling weary!"

This was the sorrow of the women with bound feet!

It was also the sorrow of the women of that era!

He Tiantian looked at her own feet, which, although not big, were not bound and were a pair of healthy feet that could take her far.

She couldn’t walk, but she could buy a wheelchair, and she pushed Third Grandma Qi around everywhere.

So He Tiantian ordered the butler to purchase a wheelchair.

Now everyone in the family knew that Third Grandma Qi was Qi Shuliang’s mother, and they dared not neglect her. By the afternoon, a wheelchair had been bought.

"Grandma, come and try sitting in it. I’ll push you out for a stroll," He Tiantian said, knowing that Third Grandma Qi was someone who loved novelty. Because her body prevented her from walking around, she felt regretful, but was too embarrassed to ask others for help.

"This chair with wheels is quite unique," Third Grandma Qi took an interest, "What is this?"

While helping Third Grandma Qi sit, He Tiantian explained, "This is a wheelchair. People who have trouble with their legs use this. When the path is smooth, I will push you; when it isn’t, I will carry you."

Third Grandma Qi sat down and managed to turn the two wheels below with her hands.

"Oh?" Third Grandma Qi discovered she could also turn them, "This is a good thing! Not bad at all, let’s go out for a walk!"

"All right!" He Tiantian agreed.

When the butler heard that the Old Madam wanted to go out, six bodyguards were assigned to follow her to ensure her safety.

He Tiantian brought a New York travel guide and found the Statue of Liberty.

Because the bodyguards were present, He Tiantian wasn’t worried about safety.

"Grandma, that stone statue up ahead is the Statue of Liberty, it’s very famous. Almost everyone who comes to New York will visit this statue," He Tiantian informed Third Grandma Qi.

"This statue is of great significance!" Third Grandma Qi nodded, "Tiantian, did you bring a camera?"

"I did, I did. How could I not bring a camera on a trip?" He Tiantian said with a chuckle, "Come on, Grandma, stand up straight, and I’ll take a photo of you for a keepsake."

He Tiantian took a photo of Third Grandma Qi and then handed the camera to one of the bodyguards, saying, "Please take a photo of the two of us together, and then a solo shot of me."

"Certainly," the bodyguard readily agreed.

The wind by the sea was strong. After taking photos, He Tiantian said, "Grandma, let’s go. It’s quite windy and a bit chilly here; catching a cold wouldn’t be good."

"Hmm, okay, where are we going next?" Third Grandma Qi asked, looking particularly energetic.

"The next one is..." He Tiantian mentioned the most famous museum.

For lunch, they sorted it out while they were out.

In the afternoon, they took another trip to the supermarket, re-experiencing the satisfaction brought by the dazzling array of products.

By four in the afternoon, they returned home.

Qi Shuliang and Anna arrived back home and asked his mother if she enjoyed her time outside today.

"It was fun. You two carry on with your work; I have a wheelchair, and Tiantian took me around everywhere. It’s quite nice," Third Grandma Qi did not want her arrival to disturb her son and his wife.

Qi Shuliang smiled and said, "He Tiantian has worked hard!"

"Not at all," He Tiantian smiled, "I wanted to go out too, and besides, with the bodyguards around, it wasn’t tiring at all."
