Chapter 251: Chapter 250 Treasures (1660+)_1
Anyway, these things are going to be partly given to He Tiantian in the future!
Third Grandma Qi had her own plans, she feared she wouldn’t live to see the day her child returned, so she hoped He Tiantian could pass these things on to her descendants. He Tiantian was not greedy, and Third Grandma Qi felt at ease entrusting the items to her.
Additionally, He Tiantian was the goddaughter she recognized. She had already thought of giving her a portion.
"Since they are from my family’s ancestors, if I let you see them, then you can," Third Grandma Qi insisted, pulling He Tiantian and pushing open the door to that room.
It was pitch dark inside, and Third Grandma Qi lit the lamp again.
Once the room was lit, He Tiantian was stunned to see stacks of small yellow fish on the shelves, and two cases of foreign currency next to them. The other chests inside must be worth more than gold and Da Yang currency.
"Grandma, I believe your family was once the biggest landlord in TY County," He Tiantian said sentimentally, "These things, not to mention now, even in the past would have represented a huge fortune!"
Upon hearing this, Third Grandma Qi laughed proudly, "Of course, these were secretly hidden by my father. Originally, our family had even more, but it all went to smashing the landlords and distributing their land! So many good things from our home, who knows whose hands they ended up in."
"My mother told me that we had some too, but I was too young; my parents didn’t tell me where," He Tiantian said with a sigh, "But I am sure that our private stash definitely isn’t as abundant as what you have here."
"In the future, you will have more. The gold and Da Yang currency here, along with the contents of those two chests, I have already decided. If my son comes back to find me, then you should split it equally with him—one half for you, and one half for my son. If he... he doesn’t come... then it will all be yours..."
Third Grandma Qi thought it through, if her son were dead, all these things would be left to He Tiantian.
If her son were alive but couldn’t come, or didn’t want to come back, he would no longer need these things.
Upon hearing this, He Tiantian shook her head repeatedly, "Grandma, don’t say that. As long as your descendants come looking, give it all to them."
Money is necessary, but having too much of it is another matter.
He Tiantian, someone who had lived two lifetimes, thought about it very thoroughly.
With the reform and opening up, even if she had no other skills, just based on her ten years of selling marinated meat, she could start a small business and make money. She didn’t need to covet things that didn’t belong to her.
"Alright, when the time comes, I will leave a will, and arrange everything," Third Grandma Qi said while simultaneously opening a chest, which surprisingly contained a stash of jewelry.
Third Grandma Qi took out a jade hairpin and praised it, "Ah, now we’re not allowed to wear these things, what a pity. Back in our youth, we were so brightly dressed, even the poor would tie a red string in their hair, or put a fresh flower in it. But now it’s all drab, and black, looks so ugly."
He Tiantian pursed her lips and smiled. Although Third Grandma Qi seemed calm on the outside, her heart still had a bit of the prideful pettiness of a landlord’s young lady.
"Yes, loving beauty is part of human nature. I believe it won’t always be like this," He Tiantian explained, thinking of the future’s multicolored dresses and various styles that were indeed much more appealing than the current clothes.
"I hope so," Third Grandma Qi laughed, "If I can’t see that time, I want you to wear some beautiful clothes for me, put on pretty jewelry. Right, this is my favorite hairpin, and when you go to burn paper for me at my grave, you must wear it for me to see."
"Grandma, just live well. Maybe in some time, you will be able to wear beautiful clothes again," He Tiantian said with a smile.
"Ah, I’m too old to wear such lively clothes anymore," Third Grandma Qi said regretfully, reminiscing about her younger days when life was truly lively.
"Achoo!" He Tiantian’s nose felt ticklish, and she yawned, "Grandma, the air down here isn’t good, let’s go outside."
Third Grandma Qi nodded and said, "Alright, the grains are stored. It’s time to go up."
Third Grandma Qi reluctantly put the items back into the chest. These good things couldn’t be taken out and had to be left to gather dust in the secret room.
After extinguishing the oil lamp, He Tiantian helped Third Grandma Qi out of the secret room and sealed it again.
Third Grandma Qi stepped on the original stone once more, and the feed trough was completely covered, impossible to push open.
"This damn weather, it’s too hot," Third Grandma Qi muttered, "I need to go wash and wipe off the sweat."
He Tiantian was also covered in sweat!
After they washed up, the sun had already set.
He Tiantian saw that the water jar was empty, so she took a shoulder pole and two buckets to fetch water from the spring pool at the entrance of the village.
Along the way, she met some people and greeted them warmly.
At the edge of the Spring Pool, He Tiantian saw Qi Ergou, and Qi Ergou’s new wife, Yang Xiuxiu.
"Girl Tian, you’ve come to fetch water too," Qi Ergou said with a smile, "Hand me your buckets, I’ll draw the water for you."
"No need, Second Brother, you should stay with sister-in-law," He Tiantian replied with a smile. Qi Ergou was about to go to university, and having just brought home a new bride, the two were inseparable, and she didn’t want to intrude on their private time.
Yang Xiuxiu, looking shy, came over to take He Tiantian’s buckets and said, "Tiantian, let Second Brother help you. There has been a drought recently, and there’s much less water in the Spring Pool."
He Tiantian looked at the Spring Pool. Although the springs bubbled up as before, there was noticeably more water flowing into the small creek.
That was a stream the village had diverted for irrigation.
"Then thank you, Second Brother, Second Sister-in-law," He Tiantian said with a smile, gladly accepting their sincere offer.
As He Tiantian was thanking Qi Ergou, a small black dot appeared in front of her, followed by a "plop" as the dot dropped into the water.
"What fell into the water?" Yang Xiuxiu asked Qi Ergou, who was drawing water ahead of her.
While drawing up the water, Qi Ergou answered, "I didn’t see clearly!"
"Could it be bird droppings?" Yang Xiuxiu asked. She was used to wells in her own village and felt a bit uneasy about drawing water to drink from the Spring Pool after marrying into Qijia Village.
"Country folks aren’t so particular," Qi Ergou said with a laugh, "Our Qijia Village has been drinking this water for generations with no issue," as he helped He Tiantian lift the two buckets of water.
Yang Xiuxiu smiled and said nothing. Indeed, it was like that. If the locals could drink it for generations, she, a newcomer bride, should not look down on the water here. Besides, it hadn’t rained all year and having water to drink was already a blessing; she couldn’t afford to be picky.
While Second Brother Qi and Yang Xiuxiu were talking, He Tiantian heard the words of the Snake King inside her head.
"I’ve kicked out the little turtle that pees all the time," the Snake King said, sounding morose. There was water everywhere, and if it weren’t for seeing He Tiantian so busy these days, he would have wanted to get rid of the little turtle sooner.
