Chapter 132: Chapter 132: Other Schemes (660+) _1

Wang Shuilian detected disgust in He Tiantian’s tone, devoid of any affection, and guessed that He Tiantian was not at all fond of her cousin Qi Jianguo. It seemed like Qi Jianguo’s affection was unrequited.

Although Wang Shuilian was somewhat displeased that He Tiantian did not fancy her excellent cousin, as a doctor, she couldn’t just leave without attending to her patient.

"Hehe, just kidding," Wang Shuilian said with a smile. "You look pale; you must have a deficiency in qi and blood. Come, let me take your pulse and give you an examination."

He Tiantian stretched out her arm next door and politely said, "Thank you for the trouble."

She wasn’t joking at all; she felt weak all over. If she could get up right now, she would definitely slap Qi Jianguo several times.

"I am a doctor, it’s what I should do," Wang Shuilian said courteously as she took He Tiantian’s pulse and checked her joints and bones, which showed no problem.

"How’s Girl Tian?" Third Grandma Qi asked with concern. She had just been angered by Qi Jianguo and was feeling uncomfortable.

Wang Shuilian replied with a chuckle, "Don’t worry. She’s just blood-deficient. There’re no broken bones. Just let her consume some red dates and other nutritious food, and she’ll be fine."

"Is there no need for a prescription?" Third Grandma Qi asked, as they still had plenty of meat at home, which could all be given to Girl Tian to eat.

"No need," Wang Shuilian said. "She’s young and healthy. It’s probably her menstrual period, and she must have come into contact with cold water, leading to excessive menstrual blood flow. She just needs to be more careful in the future."

He Tiantian admitted to a deficiency in qi and blood. But the idea of having lost too much menstrual blood, she found hard to accept.

However, upon further thought, she realized that, indeed, her menstrual flow was normal, but after Snake King took a drink and Qi Xiaoyan took a drink, she had indeed lost too much blood!

"Considering the trouble you’ve taken to come here, how much is the consultation fee?" He Tiantian asked, noticing that Wang Shuilian had not written a prescription just for the sake of earning money, which showed her medical ethics were admirable.

"It’s unnecessary, we’re all villagers and just helping each other out," Wang Shuilian said as she packed up her pulse pillow, preparing to leave.

If Wang Shuilian hadn’t been related to Qi Jianguo, He Tiantian might have offered her something, if not money. But now that they were relatives, apparently on good terms, He Tiantian did not want to owe her anything!

"That won’t do; I should give whatever is proper. I can’t let you make the trip for nothing," He Tiantian insisted, taking out a piece of money from her wallet, "Is this enough?"

Seeing He Tiantian making an effort to distance herself, and probably wishing to avoid any entanglement with her cousin-in-law outside, Wang Shuilian replied with a faint smile, "That’s too much, just thirty cents will do."

Wang Shuilian accepted the money and said with a smile, "Hehe, I’ll gladly take this."

"You should, you should!" Third Grandma Qi said laughing, as she walked Wang Shuilian out.

Outside, Qi Jianguo hadn’t left yet, and Qi Xiaoyan came in, panting.

"How’s Sister Tiantian?" Qi Xiaoyan asked.

"How’s Tiantian?" Qi Jianguo asked.

Both turned their eyes to Wang Shuilian.

Wang Shuilian said, "Don’t worry, she just has a blood deficiency and needs to eat some nourishing food, and she’ll recover nicely."

"Oh," Qi Xiaoyan understood a little. She had experienced painful menstruation before and thought that Tiantian might be suffering from menstrual cramps.

"Is it really nothing serious?" Qi Jianguo still wanted to peek inside.

Third Grandma Qi had already closed the door; Qi Jianguo couldn’t see inside.

"It’s nothing serious. I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll head back first," said Wang Shuilian as she shouldered her medicine box. "Jianguo, if you’re not busy, could you walk me back to the village? It’s rather tiresome to walk in this chilly weather."

Qi Jianguo felt a sense of loss, glanced a few times at the tightly shut wooden doors, and left in disappointment.

Once outside, Wang Shuilian asked curiously, "Jianguo, how are things going with that educated youth named He Tiantian?"

"What else can I say!" Qi Jianguo forced a bitter smile, "She just doesn’t fancy me!"

"If you ask me, aside from being somewhat pretty, that girl doesn’t really have much else to offer. You’re outstanding and can definitely find a better girl," Wang Shuilian advised, having seen not a hint of affection, and even some disgust, in He Tiantian’s eyes, which clearly showed she had no feelings for her cousin.

If her cousin continued to be so persistent, he could end up in serious trouble.

"Ah!" Qi Jianguo sighed, staying silent as he wouldn’t share his personal matters with anyone else.

Wang Shuilian thought her cousin had taken her advice to heart, so she said no more.

After escorting Wang Shuilian back, Qi Jianguo returned home, his spirits deflated. What should he do now?

There was also no hold over He Tiantian at Zhou Sihai’s end; with Qi Xiaoyan being guarded by He Tiantian, he had no chance to get close to her.

He had been to the county town and already received information from Zhou Sihai. Although Zhou didn’t disclose the whistleblowing letter he wrote, with Niu Dajun and Niu Peng’s abilities, they probably figured out it was Qi Jianguo who wrote the denunciation letter.

Given the close relationship between Niu Dajun and Secretary Qi, Niu Dajun would surely tell Qi Dazhu.

The reason Qi Dazhu hadn’t confronted him yet was probably that he lacked hard evidence, or he didn’t want to implicate others.

Initially, his plan was to remove Uncle Qi from the village chief’s position, to have his second uncle take over. To think, after all his plotting, he failed and didn’t accomplish his goal.

And being on Qi Dazhu’s radar was not good news.

Qi Jianguo kept thinking about solutions to his dilemma.

At that moment, Qi Fangfang’s voice came from outside: "Big brother, dinner’s ready."

There was no response from inside the room. Qi Fangfang knocked, pushed the door open, and said, "Big brother, get up for dinner. Did something upset you outside?"

"It’s nothing." Qi Jianguo got up from the bed and followed Qi Fangfang out.

"Oh, right, big brother. When I visited Auntie recently, she said she had already made arrangements for you. She said after the New Year, as long as the village’s review passes, you will be able to go to college," Qi Fangfang said; the thought of her big brother attending university filled her with pride and she hoped that after his graduation, he might even find her a job.

Upon hearing this, Qi Jianguo’s eyes lit up. That’s right, he could go to college.

It would take another two or three years to graduate, but by then, as a university student with a state-assigned job, He Tiantian would definitely view him differently.

Such an excellent opportunity was right in front of him; he couldn’t let it slip away.

Qi Jianguo decided to be on his best behavior for the time being, not to stir up trouble, and let everything wait until he was in college.

"I understand, don’t worry. Once your brother gets into college, I’ll definitely find you an opportunity to work in the city," Qi Jianguo assured her. With his mood greatly improved, his appetite returned. The family had their portion of meat, and he ate it with great relish.

Qi Fangfang was also thrilled, saying, "Big brother, you’re the best. I’ll remember this. You have to help me find a factory job. I don’t want to farm in the countryside at all. It’s too hard."

"I remember," Qi Jianguo promised. "When you’ve got the time, keep hanging out with Qi Xiaoyan and He Tiantian. See what they are up to and come back to tell me."

With her heart set on her brother helping her in the future, Qi Fangfang readily agreed to everything.
