Chapter 114: Chapter 114: A Major Turnaround_1

Upon hearing Niu Peng’s words, Zheng Hongjun was momentarily taken aback.

"He Tiantian?" Zheng Hongjun asked, slightly puzzled, as if he had heard the name somewhere before. But with age, he couldn’t recall where he had heard it.

Niu Peng reminded him, "The day before yesterday, when you went to the city for a meeting, you brought back some documents, one of which was a public communique concerning Comrade He Tiantian."

Niu Peng was also an employee here, with one of his duties being to organize the incoming and outgoing documents. The reason for this was that Niu Peng was a "Third Front" high school graduate, with a higher education and capable of handling such responsibilities.

Zheng Hongjun, however, didn’t have such erudition; previously a village secretary, he rose to his position by a stroke of luck, but to have achieved the role of director at the county level on his own merit was no trivial feat.

At Niu Peng’s explanation, Zheng Hongjun broke out in a cold sweat. If he didn’t handle this properly, he wouldn’t be able to explain himself to the city’s leaders!

Director Zheng took the lead, running at the forefront, cursing inwardly, "Zhou Sihai, you worthless scoundrel!"

He could tell at a glance that He Tiantian had someone backing her, capable of causing Nan City’s office to issue such a communique. She was no ordinary person! Zhou Sihai, you scoundrel, if you want to provoke someone, you should at least find out more before taking action!

The day before yesterday, when he went to the office, Director Liao from Huai City solemnly told him that it was a very important document. He was instructed not to let a single weevil slip through, but also not to wrongfully blame a good person. He Tiantian was a good comrade and ought to be protected.

If he couldn’t grasp the clear message from his direct superior, he might as well bash his head against a wall.

Originally, he had intended to hold a meeting yesterday to go over this, but something came up at home, so he took the day off. As a result, Zhou Sihai actually took people to Qijia Village to cause trouble for He Tiantian.

That wasn’t all; the jerk even hit a local hero!

That kid must be looking to die!

If you want to die, don’t drag me down with you!

Liu Dahai, Niu Peng, Director Zheng, and the other employees hurried to the bike shed, hopped on their bicycles, and followed Niu Dajun.

Niu Dajun was a postman, young and strong, and he pedaled his bicycle as if it were equipped with fiery wheels, leaving the several leaders trailing far behind.

But at that moment, no one complained about Niu Dajun cycling too fast—they only cursed their own slowness!

Zhou Sihai was in a standoff with Village Chief Qi when the conflict was about to escalate to a fever pitch, and that’s when the group finally arrived. Zheng Hongjun, not bothering to stop his bike, let it crash to the ground and ran over with large strides.

Good heavens!

If it weren’t for so many people around, Zheng Hongjun would probably, like an imperial soldier in a TV drama, furiously slap Zhou Sihai a few times, followed by a "You’re done for."

"Everyone shut up. Zhou Sihai, as of now, you’re suspended. We’ll discuss any issues back at the office," Zheng Hongjun said angrily. "Village Chief Qi, my apologies. I have failed to maintain strict control over my subordinates, causing everyone trouble. This isn’t the place to handle affairs; let’s go back to the office. Our principle is to not spare any corrupt comrade but also to not wrongfully blame any good person."

Upon hearing Director Zheng’s words, Zhou Sihai’s position was immediately suspended. Without his official position, he was nothing—just an ordinary person.

For a moment, his mind couldn’t process it all; his face turned pale, and his limbs grew cold.

Secretary Qi looked around; today’s events were developing favorably!

"Director Zheng, we’ll come back with you, but you must ensure justice for us. My uncle still has chest pain!" Secretary Qi declared, determined to make Zhou Sihai pay for his misdeeds today.

When Director Zheng saw an old man with graying hair sitting on the ox cart, he hurried forward respectfully and said, "Old sir, you’ve been wronged. Let’s go; I’ll get justice for everyone right now."

He Tiantian and Qi Xiaoyan exchanged looks; the situation had reversed too dramatically!

"Alright then, we trust the organization," Old Man Qi stated earnestly. "Don’t just stand there; let’s go with Director Zheng."

Seeing Director Zheng intervene and calm the villagers who were on edge, Liu Dahai wiped the sweat from his forehead, relieved that today’s affairs could be well resolved without worrying about losing his official hat.

No matter how big the issue is, we should discuss it behind closed doors and take our time, rather than talking about it outside, which doesn’t look good!

Niu Peng and Liu Dahai called everyone to go to their office together and entered the conference room instead of the interrogation room, indicating the level of importance the organization was giving to the situation through their attitude.

Lin Xiaoru, witnessing all this, was even more afraid. It was a case of ’trying to steal a chicken only to end up losing the rice’—she had taken a huge fall this time.

"Xiaoru..." Huang Jingli said with concern.

"Don’t speak. Just stick to what we talked about last night. If you dare to back out, I’ll expose you on the spot..." Lin Xiaoru threatened. She had no way out and had to adamantly deny everything!

Huang Jingli nodded, saying no more.

In fact, Huang Jingli was overjoyed inside. Without lifting a finger, Lin Xiaoru had taken a big fall!

Serves her right!

Vengeance comes swiftly!

Zheng Hongjun had an assistant recount the entire sequence of events to understand the situation thoroughly.

"He Tiantian, faced with these allegations, what do you have to say?" Director Zheng asked about the matter at hand, urgently gathering evidence to understand the details of the case.

He Tiantian stood up and respectfully bowed to the organization leaders, Village Chief Qi, Old Man Qi, and others, saying confidently, "Good morning, leaders and elders. I appreciate the opportunity given by the leadership to defend myself. Regarding the two accusatory letters, I have the following explanations. As for the first letter concerning overseas relations, I do not deny it. My grandfather returned from Country M before the revolution and was a professor in the astronomy department at Southern University, where he made significant contributions to the field of astronomy and received national recognition. Before his passing, he was an astronomer who received national subsidies for his outstanding contributions. Eight years ago, my grandfather passed away. When the organization reviewed overseas relations, my parents actively cooperated with the investigation and responded positively to the call. After the review, it was determined that my parents, as well as my late grandfather, despite having overseas ties, had not committed treason nor espionage. I recently returned to Nan City to ask my parents and the local office to issue this proof for review by the leaders," she said.

He Tiantian personally delivered various documents to Director Zheng’s hands, fortunate that Niu Lili and Niu Dajun had tipped her off, giving her the chance to make a personal visit to Nan City and obtain the necessary proof and official documents.

After reviewing the documents, Director Zheng felt a mixture of emotions. Zhou Sihai, that fool, did not even realize that someone had a talisman and still dared to trouble them, without considering his own worth!

After looking over the documents, Director Zheng passed them on to County Chief Liu and Niu Peng. Several documents bore the seals of various units, all dated the same day, indicating that everything was accomplished within a single day. Without some background, this level of efficiency would be impossible.

They had really underestimated He Tiantian!
