Chapter 1071: Chapter 1040 Handling Government Affairs, Teaching Younger Brothers and Sisters
Upon hearing his nephew’s words, Red Arrow knew his nephew had some complaints about him.
However, this dissatisfaction was far from enough to cause a rupture, so Red Arrow just looked a bit awkward, but he wasn’t angry.
"Of course, of course," Red Arrow said with an embarrassed smile, unable to continue. He guessed that his brother-in-law, the Spirit Serpent King’s Brother-in-law, and the Spirit Snake Prince, Li Xian, had probably spoken about matters on Spirit Snake Island.
He had felt embarrassed for not having come forward to help the Spirit Serpent King at the time.
At this moment, other prestigious families of the Spirit Snake Clan came to offer their congratulations, and Red Arrow had to step aside. He silently drank his wine, considering what valuable things he had at home to send to his nephew as an apology.
The Spirit Snake Prince had become somewhat more mature after his experience among humans.
Sometimes when he faced a question that was difficult to answer, he would think in his head about how Huo Yingjie would solve such a problem.
After a while, the Spirit Snake Prince always managed to respond smoothly.
The banquet rewarded those who had contributed to the recent victory accordingly.
The Spirit Snake Prince received half of the rewards, while the other half was distributed according to merit to the Spirit Snake Warriors who had been on the front lines of today’s battle.
These were the supporters of the Spirit Snake King, and receiving such generous rewards made them even happier.
As for the others, those who wished to reap the benefits without working for them could only watch enviously as the rest received their rewards, not daring to speak up.
The banquet was very lively, with dancing girls singing and dancing. Everyone clinked cups and drank freely, as if to suggest that drinking could wash away all grudges and grievances.
The Snake King had just returned and was not fully aware of all the affairs on Spirit Snake Island. After he had completely taken control, he would settle scores one by one.
Three days later, the Spirit Serpent King briefed the Snake King on the general situation of Spirit Snake Island, to give him an understanding.
Once the Snake King began to deal with state affairs, the Spirit Serpent King went into seclusion with the Spirit Snake Queen Consort and the five unhatched eggs.
The Snake King had to handle government matters in the morning, and in the afternoon, he had to instruct his younger brothers and sisters in spellcraft and martial arts.
These young ladies, accustomed to luxury, were simply not willing to endure hardship, so the Snake King went straight to their allowances.
If they did not study diligently, their allowances would be reduced.
If they studied well, they could not only receive their share from the Spirit Snake Palace but also earn rewards given by the Snake King.
With a mix of grace and sternness, his sisters and brothers began to study earnestly.
However, once they started studying, they found their strength increased and their spellcraft improved. They no longer needed the Snake King’s urging to study seriously.
Periodically, the Snake King would take them hunting in the forest, which resulted in many trophies, further motivating them to study spellcraft.
The Snake King specifically opened a garden for them to study in.
Seeing the Spirit Snake Princess and the little princes making rapid progress, others came to inquire and even tried to learn by stealth, but it was of no use.
The Snake King watched all this, taking everything to heart.
Heh, to learn his spellcraft, he would first have to unlock the Spirit Snake fetters binding them, allowing them to learn.
Fittingly, the legacy the Snake King received included this very technique, so he wasn’t worried about it being learned by others who came snooping.
As long as his sisters and brothers mastered this set of spellcraft, they could handle threats from the Black Bear Demon as well as internal threats from the Spirit Snake Clan.
Thus, he could feel a bit more at ease.
Since returning to Spirit Snake Island, the Snake King spent mornings dealing with government affairs, afternoons teaching his sisters and brothers, and nights cultivating.
Each day was just as busy as the last, as if being swamped with tasks could make him forget everything about the human world.
He thought he could forget, but with feelings so profound and love so deep, how could he possibly do so?
There was no longer a need for him by He Tiantian’s side; Huo Yingjie was with her and would protect her well.
He was superfluous.
Now that he was back and knew his family still needed him, the Snake King felt useful and took comfort in that thought.
One day passed, then another, and before he knew it, over a thousand days and nights had slipped by.
Until one day, the Essence of Water he kept in the palm of his hand stirred slightly.
The Snake King smiled, knowing that He Tiantian had started to become close to the water.
Though he couldn’t see her, he could feel her joy and happiness in the water.
It was not all the time, only on specific dates, but this was enough.
At the very least, the Snake King knew that He Tiantian was doing well.
Years after the Snake King had returned, his appearance was unchanged, still that of a seventeen or eighteen-year-old youth. For the Spirit Snake Clan, a few years were merely a blink in their lengthy existence.
But for a Snake King experiencing the first taste of love, those years seemed endless.
To ease the loneliness in his heart, he exerted himself vehemently and had already conquered two-thirds of the forest, providing ample living space for the Spirit Snake Clan.
Once peace was ensured, the Snake King’s wedding would be next on the agenda.
The Snake King was unwilling. As soon as his father emerged from seclusion, he himself entered into closed-door cultivation, not concerning himself with worldly matters.
"My dear son, you’re not young anymore; it’s time for you to marry," the Spirit Serpent King said. "After all, your mother and I are getting old, and it’s time for you to carry on the legacy of our Spirit Snake Royal Clan."
The Snake King’s eyes twitched. The King had the audacity to say such things; in the few years since his return, he had gained dozens of younger brothers and sisters.
It was a disaster; the school he established was no longer sufficient, and it had to be divided into classes for youngsters, adolescents, and adults.
"Father, I have two hundred sixty-three of-age siblings and ninety-eight underage siblings. I feel that you’re still in the prime of your youth, your blade not yet dulled," the Snake King said lightly, indirectly pointing out the prosperity of the Spirit Snake Royal Clan and that there was no need for him to contribute further to it.
The Spirit Serpent King blushed upon hearing his son’s words; that morning the Queen Consort had announced she was pregnant.
Now he felt too embarrassed to tell his son; after the eggs hatched, they would hand them over to his eldest son and take no further part in their upbringing, hardly the actions of responsible parents.
"Then... then you may as well focus on your cultivation," the Spirit Serpent King said sheepishly, "I’ll hold off on your marriage matters for a while. Your uncle has done something unrighteous before, and I intend to make him wait, to punish him for his lack of support at that time. He wouldn’t dare to object."
"Thank you, Father," the Snake King said, and went to the Cultivation Holy Land belonging to the Spirit Snake Royal Clan to begin his training.
This was an abyssal cavern filled with Spiritual Energy.
Around the cavern were many smaller caves, within which many members of the Spirit Snake Royal Clan were cultivating.
The Snake King walked to his own cultivation cave, set up a barrier, and settled into undisturbed practice.
Time passed unnoticed in the cave. When the Snake King opened his eyes once more, he had reached a new level of mastery in his Spellcraft and decided to end his seclusion.
It was only then he realized that another five years had passed.
A full decade had slipped away. How was she by now?
He Tiantian, now a normal human, was thirty-one years old. Yet, when the Snake King looked at his reflection in the water, my God, he still had the same youthful face. He wanted to age, but couldn’t.
Perhaps by the next time he saw He Tiantian, the age difference between them would be so great they could only be regarded as elder and junior.
