The Sweet Life of Superstar and His Goddess Wife -
Chapter 189: Wife Lili
Chapter 189: 189: Wife Lili
Since Mu Bai had already told her parents that she would bring back the delicacies made by her great-aunt, she naturally kept her word. It didn’t take long before she instructed the family not to cook and packed ten boxes of food to bring home.
"Dad, Mom, I’m back..."
As soon as she entered, she wore a beaming smile, looking particularly happy.
Her mom, Wang Yuan, was pleased to see her, but when she thought of her younger son, Murong, she withdrew her smile: "Hmph! You still remember to come back, huh."
"It’s hard for the child to come back even once, just say a little less," Mu Mingsi expressed helplessly. Because of the issues with their son Murong, his wife had been blaming him for several days now.
If it weren’t for the old man staying at home, who knows how she would have quarreled with him.
"Hehehe... I brought back lots of delicious food today, guaranteed flavors you’ve never tasted before, so good you’ll want more." Facing her family, Mu Bai confidently ignored her mother’s expression, placed the packed boxes on the coffee table with a smile, and then cozied up to Wang Yuan, "Mom, I’ve missed you so much!"
"Do you really miss me, or is it just pretend? Don’t tell me you caused trouble outside and want your dad to clean up the mess for you?" Although a bit angry at her daughter, Wang Yuan still glanced at Mu Mingsi as she spoke: Hmph! The youngest son is already like that; if you dare not to help your daughter, watch out—I might not let you on the bed tonight!
No matter what, Mu Bai is still her daughter, isn’t she?
Mu Mingsi felt a sudden chill down his back.
"Mom, where are your thoughts going? I’ve been well-behaved lately, haven’t caused any trouble, so just relax. Grandpa is home, right? Let’s call him down for dinner and chat while we eat..."
"Your grandpa should be in the study," said Mu Mingsi.
"Then I’ll go upstairs to call Grandpa for dinner." Mu Bai asked the housekeeper to set the table and then happily bounced upstairs.
Watching her daughter’s back, Wang Yuan’s expression softened a bit, but when she looked at Mu Mingsi, her face turned serious again.
"Later, no matter what Xiao Bai says, you must agree to her."
"Didn’t Xiao Bai say she doesn’t have any issues this time..." Mu Mingsi was somewhat helpless.
"That’s just because she’s embarrassed to say it. Don’t you know her character by now? How many times has she started sweet-talking you and it wasn’t because she needed you to clean up her mess?" Wang Yuan said disdainfully.
How could he not know what kind of person his daughter is, and still call himself her father?
"Yes, yes... They’ll be down soon, so let’s talk later."

In the study, Grandpa Mu was wiping an old photograph. In the black-and-white photo, a young girl with twin braids was smiling brilliantly at him.
"Lili, I’ve grown old, and look at you, still so beautiful, smiling so brightly..."
"If you were alive to see your grandson and granddaughter being so disappointing, you might have been angry enough to hit someone with a broom. It’s all my fault; I was always busy with work and had no time to educate the children, causing one of them to become a good-for-nothing. Such a disappointment!"
"But maybe it’s a good thing you can’t see it, to spare you the anger."
"Rest assured, with me watching over them, even though I can’t make them extremely rich and powerful, I can assure they live safe and sound."
"And I have some good news for you: the legend about the Mu family is true, that great-aunt really appeared..." At this point, his eyes were a bit watery, "Lili, if that great-aunt had appeared earlier, you wouldn’t have passed away so soon."
Before Grandpa Mu could finish lamenting, he heard a knock on the door.
"Grandpa, are you in there? It’s Xiao Bai."
Grandpa Mu wiped away his tears, quickly put the photo album aside, and opened the study door: "Oh, Xiao Bai, you’re back?"
Outside the door, Mu Bai had a face full of smiles: "Yeah, I’m back. Grandpa, I brought lots and lots of delicious food, all made by great-aunt herself. She knew I was bringing it back for you, so she made many of your favorite dishes. You must eat a lot later..."
Mu Bai noticed Grandpa’s eyes were a bit red, but she wisely didn’t ask anything and instead smiled to divert his attention.
Downstairs, the housekeeper had already switched to new dishes and placed the food neatly on the table.
The enticing aroma was evident from far away.
"Quickly, give it a try—these are all handcrafted by great-aunt. I just love the dishes great-aunt makes." As she sat down, Mu Bai started serving food for her family.
Before tasting, they didn’t think much of it. After all, having long been in high positions, they had seen and tasted all kinds of delicacies. Would they really lack this one taste from great-aunt?
But after the first bite, their thoughts changed.
Oh my goodness! Is it really this delicious?!
Is this truly earthly food?!
The food they had eaten previously, compared to this, was practically garbage—pig slop!
Boohoo... how many years have they been eating pig slop?
Maintaining their demeanor, Grandpa Mu, Mu Mingsi, and Wang Yuan held back but their chopsticks moved much faster towards the food.
There was no time to talk; their eyes kept glancing at the dishes on the table as they quickly chewed, as if slowing down would mean others would finish all the delicious morsels.
Seeing her family eating so enthusiastically, Mu Bai felt a bit too embarrassed to join the fight for food.
Ah... after all, she’s been by great-aunt’s side and basically gets to eat her cooking every day.
Anything made by great-aunt is simply never tiresome!
"Delicious, right? Didn’t I say, great-aunt’s cooking is the best!" Mu Bai beamed with pride.
Wang Yuan couldn’t help but say, "It’s not like you made it, what are you bragging about?"
That one comment, and the last piece of food on the plate was snatched by Grandpa Mu.
Wang Yuan felt like crying. She wasn’t even full yet, boohoo...
Grandpa Mu wasn’t full either: "The food is delicious, just that it feels a bit too little."
He licked his lips, wishing he could pick up the plates and gnaw on them.
There were four of them eating, after all; how could four dishes be enough? That Mu Bai, for being so clever, didn’t bring more this time either.
Mu Bai was a bit helpless: "Mom, it’s not that I don’t want to learn; it’s that your daughter doesn’t have the talent."
It was indeed so. Great-aunt was especially skilled in cooking, and Mu Bai admired her greatly but felt too embarrassed to keep eating at her place. She had thought about cooking herself too.
But the problem was, the simple and delicious actions of great-aunt turned out mundane in her hands.
Still, it was better than her kitchen-assassin great-aunt’s husband.
"I’m not asking you to be that good, just as long as you know how to cook," Wang Yuan, being traditional, believed that to capture a man’s heart, you first have to capture his stomach.
