Chapter 98: Chapter 98 Why is the gap so big? _1
A few burly men glanced at each other, their courage rising, and aimed their fists at Zhang Xian.
"Ah..." Li Peichi screamed, quickly backing away.
Zhang Xian quickly stepped forward, his widely spread arms, like the tail of a dragon, knocked the two burly men in the front flying.
Then he turned around, and with one elbow, he slammed into the head of another burly man. The stout man was knocked sideways and passed out on the spot.
Four burly men were effortlessly taken down.
"How is this guy so powerful?" Li Peichi’s mouth slightly opened, her eyes gleaming.
Zhang Xian had saved her twice, but she had never seen his remarkable skills. Today, he had easily dealt with four burly men, sparking her curiosity. Zhang Xian was indeed extraordinary.
"Damn, this guy is too tricky..."
The three men who hadn’t passed out were intimidated by Zhang Xian’s strength and hastily carried their unconscious companions away.
Li Peichi breathed a sigh of relief.
However, when she looked at Zhang Xian, she still wore a stern face, "Don’t think I’m going to thank you. Underneath your flashy exterior lies a dirty heart, I despise you."
"Explain yourself." Zhang Xian was unhappy. "How am I dirty? And for the record, I never offended you."
"I can’t be bothered to talk to you." Li Peichi retorted, turning around to leave.
Zhang Xian furrowed his brows but didn’t follow her. He knew he was no saint, but definitely not a villain. The girl in front of him was surely not right in the head.
"Did you lie to me?" Zhu Qing asked Zhang Xian, "I feel like you two have a past?"
"Definitely not," Zhang Xian shook his head, "Also, why are you interested in my private life? Do you have impure thoughts? I must tell you, my standards are high."
"Why don’t you drop dead?" Zhu Qing kicked Zhang Xian and scolded, "Don’t think that being self-obsessed isn’t a disease. Take a look at your own behavior."
Zhang Xian looked at Zhu Qing’s angry but cute expression and snickered.
For no reason at all, he liked bickering with Zhu Qing. Her pretty face filled with indignation was utterly charming, stirring his heart, making him long to take her into his arms and pamper her.
Dong Qian looked depressed, her small mouth pouted, her face gloomy.
"Can’t be bothered with you."
Zhu Qing gave Zhang Xian a glance and strolled away angrily.
...
Father Fong’s spine was severely damaged, causing paralysis in half of his body. He had been bedridden for more than three years.
The family’s savings had been drained three years ago, leaving them with a huge debt. Without the support of the breadwinner, the Fong family was becoming poorer each day, barely making ends meet.
Zhang Xian arrived and naturally couldn’t let Father Fong remain bedridden.
When Fong Yu heard Zhang Xian’s words, she was so overwhelmed that she was on the verge of tears, "Brother Zhang Xian, are you serious? Can you cure my dad?"
Mama Fong couldn’t hold back her tears either. She moved her lips but failed to articulate a word.
"Fong Yu, don’t worry, Brother Zhang Xian’s medical skills are very remarkable, he can definitely cure your dad’s illness." Dong Qian came up, took Fong Yu’s hand and comforted her.
Although Zhu Qing was not on good terms with Zhang Xian, she also tried to comfort her.
Meng Xue, Xu Hui, and Fang Yanjuan, who currently admired Zhang Xian the most, also joined in the comforting party. The once cold room suddenly became lively, with a surge of warmth enveloping the place.
Father Fong lay on the bed, his teary eyes fixed on Zhang Xian. He wanted to express his gratitude but ultimately remained silent.
He was not even fifty yet and still had much of life left. He certainly didn’t want to spend it in bed. However, Zhang Xian was young and didn’t seem to possess any special abilities, so he was afraid this hope might turn into despair.
"You all need to leave." Zhang Xian spoke.
Zhu Qing and the other girls didn’t hesitate and quickly left the room, waiting outside.
"Uncle, don’t worry, I can definitely cure your illness. Just take a nap first." Zhang Xian pressed on Father Fong’s body.
Father Fong nodded with a smile, then suddenly felt a wave of fatigue wash over him, and soon fell into a deep sleep.
Zhang Xian sat by the bed, using his spiritual energy to repair Father Fong’s spinal injury and regulate his body’s meridians. At the same time, he also worked on optimizing his health. After not having moved for years, Father Fong’s physical condition had considerably deteriorated.
Thankfully, his internal spiritual energy had strong healing effects. After some adjustments, although he wasn’t entirely back to normal, at least he would be able to reach the standard of a normal person.
It wasn’t that he was incapable of restoring Father Fong entirely, but his current spiritual energy was limited. It was insufficient to adjust his body’s health whilst healing his spine.
...
When Father Fong woke up again, half an hour had already passed.
An overwhelming sense of control swept over him; he bounced off the bed like a grasshopper.
"Am I really healed?" Father Fong said, in disbelief.
Ever since he had come back to this home, his lower body had lost all sensation. When he woke up, he could feel the existence of his legs but thought it was just an illusion.
"You can walk now." Zhang Xian nodded.
Father Fong swallowed and slowly moved to the edge of the bed, placing his feet on the ground. Perhaps out of too much excitement or the fact that he hadn’t walked for three years, he failed to get up at the first attempt.
Without a doubt, Zhang Xian hadn’t lied to him. After successfully getting up on the third attempt and unsteadily taking a few steps, he was certain that he could finally get out of bed and walk again.
"Father, can you walk now?" Mama Fong froze in place when she saw Father Fong carefully step out of the room.
Fong Yu felt the same way. After three whole years, could her father really walk again?
"Brother Zhang Xian, you’re amazing," Dong Qian said with a smile.
"Hmph, even though I don’t like you, I have to admit that your medical skills are indeed very impressive," Zhu Qing said, also in surprise. "Who did you learn all these skills from?"
"If you give me a kiss, I’ll tell you," Zhang Xian joked.
"Scram..." Zhu Qing cursed.
"I’m not interested anyway!" Zhang Xian puckered his lips, walked over to Fong Yu, and said, "Your dad is fine now, and he doesn’t have any dietary restrictions. He can eat normally."
"Brother Zhang Xian, thank you!" Fong Yu gratefully nodded and asked, "How... How should I repay you?"
"Uh...this..." Zhang Xian noticed Fong Yu’s strange look and quickly backed away. "Fong Yu, I don’t mean anything like that, don’t misunderstand. I’m just doing this for my sister’s sake."
Fong Yu nodded, putting on a despondent smile.
Zhang Xian was surrounded by beautiful women, both Dong Qian and Zhu Qing were top-notch. She thought her ideas were naive and unattainable.
...
These past few days hadn’t been enjoyable for Mo Shaoyun. She had overestimated her place in Zhang Xian’s heart.
Maybe she held no place in Zhang Xian’s heart at all.
After her angry departure last time, she had thought that Zhang Xian would call. But two days had passed, and her phone hadn’t rung once, not even a single text message.
She’d thought about calling Zhang Xian several times but had never summoned the courage.
Xiao Nan shook her head with a bitter smile, "Shaoyun, why don’t we go back to Yanjing? I believe the old man will understand."
Mo Shaoyun asked, puzzled, "Why should we go back?"
Xiao Nan responded, "I feel like you’re not in a good state right now. You’ve been gloomy these past two days. I’m worried..."
Mo Shaoyun interrupted, "I’m fine, you don’t need to worry about me, really."
Xiao Nan sighed softly and stayed silent.
Even though Mo Shaoyun had consistently denied it, Xiao Nan, her close friend for many years, could tell that Mo Shaoyun had developed feelings for Zhang Xian. Or maybe, Mo Shaoyun had always liked Zhang Xian.
It was a bitter love story between a strong-willed woman unwilling to confess her feelings and a stubborn man.
"Sister Nan, help me find a company that suits us," Mo Shaoyun suddenly got up. "I’ve decided to start working."
Xiao Nan laughed, "Do you want to use work stress to deal with your internal troubles?"
"What do you mean by that?" Mo Shaoyun’s eyes flashed with panic. "I just think it’s too boring here, so I want to find a job to do."
Xiao Nan nodded, "Hmm, it’s just too boring so you want to find a job. I understand..."
"You..." Mo Shaoyun glared at Xiao Nan and turned to go upstairs, "I’m going to rest."
Watching Mo Shaoyun go upstairs, Xiao Nan murmured to herself, "The most beautiful woman in Yanjing and the sole heir to the Tiannan Group with exceptional business talents. Why is a woman like this having such a rough love life?"
...
The next morning, Zhang Xian ate breakfast and took out thirty thousand yuan before leaving the house.
Zhu Qing chased him out before she could even have breakfast, quickly jumping into the passenger seat of the Bentley.
Zhang Xian was taken aback, "What are you doing?"
Zhu Qing replied, "Take me with you."
"Eh, don’t you have work today?"
"Oh right! I almost forgot." Zhu Qing hurriedly searched through her bag.
Zhang Xian thought Zhu Qing would get out of the car, but she didn’t. Instead, she took out her cell phone, dialed a number, and said, "Dean, I’d like to take the day off today. I have something to do."
"Take the day off? What for?"
"Uh, it’s a bit inconvenient to say. Could you just approve my day off?"
"Ahem..." The dean cleared his throat on the other end of the line, "Qingqing, you can take a leave with the head nurse, why are you calling me?"
"The head nurse would never approve! You’re different, I can tell you’re a reasonable person, you won’t disapprove."
"I... I don’t know the situation in your ward, it’s not good for me to approve it. You should call your head nurse. If there is really something going on, she won’t refuse your leave."
"Dean, you can’t do this..." In her urgency, Zhu Qing put her phone next to Zhang Xian’s ear, "You know what to say."
"Uh..." Zhang Xian forced a smile, "Dean, it’s Zhang Xian."
"Zhang... Dr. Zhang, you... you’re with Qingqing?" The dean on the other end of the line sounded very excited.
"Yes! We have something to do, so..."
"Dr. Zhang, are you asking for leave for Qingqing? No problem, I will inform their head nurse. How could I make you personally handle such a trivial matter!"
Zhu Qing had put the conversation on speaker, afraid that Zhang Xian would say something wrong. When she heard the dean’s words, she couldn’t help but seethe with anger. Everyone was human, but why was there such a huge goddamn difference?
