Chapter 79: Chapter 79: I Locked Him Up_1
"Well..." There was a pause on the other end of the phone, and then: "Young Lad Zhang, that’s kind of harsh! Do you think I’d have called you if I didn’t trust you?"
"I suppose you’re right." Zhang Xian laughed: "I understand your attitude. After all, my age is no secret."
"Haha, I didn’t mean to underestimate you. I just think that the hospital is more convenient. I’m currently on my way to the city hospital. Why don’t you start heading over there now?"
"Sure. I’m not doing anything right now. Speaking of which, that old man helped me out once. If I’m there, he probably won’t die."
"Haha, perfect! If you’re confident, then I can be too. I’ll see you at the hospital."
"Yep, see you there." Zhang Xian chuckled. After hanging up the phone, he looked at Zhu Wen: "Old man, I have to step out for a bit, and I might not be back by noon. Could you keep an eye on Xiao Huo for me?"
"Sure, I’ll watch the little guy." Zhu Wen nodded, then turned to look at Xiao Huo, who was sound asleep on the table, seemingly quite happy about it.
Before Zhang Xian’s arrival, it was just him and Zhu Qing at home, with the latter often busy at work. The days were quite lonely, with the clinic virtually deserted, and he never bothered hiring help.
Since Zhang Xian’s arrival, things had perked up a bit. Occasionally some beautiful girls would visit, and he even brought back an exceptionally cute pet. At first, the little guy was lively, hopping around upstairs and downstairs non-stop. But after getting used to the environment, he just kept sleeping all the time, eating and sleeping, not bothering to play with him, the old man.
"Hey, can I borrow your bike?" Zhang Xian asked, standing up.
"There’s no problem lending it to you. I was hoping you could ride it for me! But, aren’t you afraid of getting caught?"
"No worries, there aren’t that many who can catch me."
"Alright, be careful. My old junk can’t withstand too much damage."
"Come on, how many years does your raggedy bike even have left?" Zhang Xian smirked, took the keys and headed inside.
...
In TianDu City, on some street, a white Cadillac was driving slowly.
At the wheel, Qian Duoduo’s hands tightly gripped the steering wheel, her eyebrows furrowed, clearly preoccupied. Her grandfather was still in the hospital, and she didn’t know how he was doing.
"Huh? Is that Zhang Xian up ahead? That damned jerk is riding that damn motorcycle again? "
A moment later, Qian Duoduo spotted a familiar figure ahead of her riding an old motorcycle down the road. As he rode, the guy was swaying his head from side to side.
"So annoying!" Qian Duoduo gritted her teeth, stepped on the gas pedal, and chased after him. This has happened several times and she was beyond frustrated.
At this moment, a van suddenly darted up from behind, coming dangerously close to her Cadillac.
Feeling the close proximity between the two vehicles, Qian Duoduo was quite scared and quickly swerved to make some room. Her speed on the road wasn’t fast and was somewhat disruptive to the traffic flow.
"Damn it!" A furious howl suddenly rang out.
Ahead, Zhang Xian, who was riding his motorcycle, was rear-ended by the Cadillac and sent sprawling forward, face-planting onto the ground.
Rage. Unparalleled rage. He was riding along just fine, not bothering anyone, and yet he had been hit.
Bouncing back to his feet, he was about to rail at her when he saw Qian Duoduo, looking terrified, inside the Cadillac. His anger immediately evaporated. He inwardly cursed his bad luck.
Damn it, could he be any unluckier? Every time he rode his bike, he ran into Duoduo and every single time he got caught red-handed.
"Zhang Xian, are you okay?" Qian Duoduo immediately flung open the car door and got out to check on him.
"What do you think?" Zhang Xian retorted, hands on his hips, just like a scolding housewife. "I was riding along, minding my own business. Did I offend you or something? I know my motorcycle isn’t supposed to be on the road, but that doesn’t mean you have to hit me, does it?"
"No... I... I didn’t do it on purpose." Qian Duoduo pouted. "Are you hurt? Do you want me to take you to the hospital for a check-up?"
"I’m fine. I don’t need you to take me anywhere." Zhang Xian quickly said, rolling his eyes.
"Are you sure?" Qian Duoduo looked stunned, then stood up straight with hands on hips and angrily said, "Zhang Xian, stand right there."
"What the heck, what do you want to do?" Zhang Xian instinctively backed off, his mind full of regret. If he had known this would happen, he’d have said that he was hurt. This woman switched her moods too quickly.
"Have I not told you twice now? Do you think my words are just wind in your ears? Do you believe me if I say I’ll report you to the police and have you jailed for a good month?" Qian Duoduo retorted angrily.
"Isn’t that a bit harsh? It seems to me like I’m the victim here. You’re the one who hit me."
"Those are two different things. I’ll take responsibility for my accident but you, operating a scrapped vehicle on the road, have to take responsibility too. You’ve committed a crime," she pointed out.
"Oh no... my leg... it’s so painful... it must be injured." Zhang Xian suddenly collapsed onto the ground.
Qian Duoduo gave Zhang Xian a sideways glance, clearly not believing him.
When Qian Duoduo saw that Zhang Xian was really in pain and had started to break out in a cold sweat, she couldn’t be sure anymore. "Zhang Xian, don’t scare me. Does it really hurt a lot?" she quickly asked.
"Are you blind?" Zhang Xian replied, angry.
"You... wait. I’m opening the car door, I’ll help you in and take you to the hospital." Qian Duoduo quickly went to the Cadillac, opened the door.
But when she turned back, she saw that Zhang Xian had already pushed the motorcycle far away. Flames of anger erupted in her eyes, "Zhang Xian, you lied to me again. Just you wait, you better hope I don’t catch you again."
...
Having evaded Qian Duoduo’s pursuit, Zhang Xian finally arrived at City First Hospital after racing there.
Damn, that woman Qian Duoduo is everywhere! Every time he went out, he always ran into her and almost got caught.
"Phew..." After a protracted sigh, Zhang Xian locked his broken motorcycle and was about to walk into the hospital.
Just then, a white Cadillac barreled in, startling him and causing him to retreat in annoyance. He was just about to step up the stairs when the vehicle almost hit him.
"Squeak..." An ear-piercing noise arose.
The Cadillac made a sudden stop and halted right in front of Zhang Xian.
"Your grandmother, are you blind?" Zhang Xian was very angry, ready to curse the driver.
"Who did you say is blind?" The car door swung open, and Qian Duoduo clambered out. She grabbed Zhang Xian and pressed him against the hood of the car.
"I...what...why is it you again?" Zhang Xian hadn’t noticed the car license plate earlier, so he didn’t expect the driver to be Qian Duoduo.
He was wondering earlier why someone would drive a car to the hospital entrance. Apparently, the person had deliberately driven here to arrest him.
"Isn’t it me?" Qian Duoduo declared triumphantly.
Having let Zhang Xian escape earlier had left a bad taste in her mouth. She was pleasantly surprised to run into Zhang Xian at the hospital.
Without a second thought, she drove directly in and apprehended Zhang Xian right on the spot. This time, she was intent on seeing how he’d escape.
"Listen, Duoduo! I came to the hospital to save someone. You can’t arrest me. If it delays the patient’s treatment, you’ll have to take responsibility," Zhang Xian implored helplessly.
"Huh, you think I’d believe you?" Qian Duoduo snorted and dialed a phone number, "Old Man Hu, bring a few men to City First Hospital."
"Are you really going to arrest me?" Zhang Xian’s eyes widened.
"You bet I am. I’m going to get you today no matter what," Qian Duoduo said gleefully,"Who asked you to lie to me twice?"
"You’re being petty. So petty!" said Zhang Xian, fuming, "Just because I rode a scrapped motorbike on the road, you want to detain me? That’s sheer ingratitude!"
"Save it. I’ve repaid you for last time and even compromised myself, which was excruciating for me. So I don’t owe you anything anymore."
"You..." Zhang Xian was frustrated.
If he had known that Duoduo was his nemesis, he wouldn’t have ridden a motorcycle. Now, he’s stuck and couldn’t openly resist the law, could he? She was waving the banner of justice!
Soon, a police car drove through the main gate of City First Hospital.
Seeing this, Qian Duoduo smirked. She turned Zhang Xian over to them, "This guy was driving a scrapped bike on the road and doesn’t have a license. These are serious offenses. Take him away."
"Alright, Duoduo." A young police officer smirked and shoved Zhang Xian into the car, "Buddy, behave!"
Zhang Xian obediently climbed into the police car, looking at Qian Duoduo with a sense of betrayal.
Qian Duoduo chuckled triumphantly, got back into her Cadillac, and drove off. Little did she know that she just handed over her grandpa’s savior to the police station.
...
At the hospital’s main entrance, an old man in a suit paced back and forth anxiously. He had been waiting for half an hour and Zhang Xian, who was notorious for his lack of punctuality, still hadn’t arrived. This was a matter of life and death!
Old Man Qian was brought to the hospital yesterday and hadn’t woken up since. Moreover, the hospital’s diagnosis was not very promising. Due to complications from other diseases, Old Man Qian couldn’t undergo heart bypass surgery immediately.
"Grandpa Sun, why are you standing at the door alone?" Qian Duoduo asked, perplexed, as she emerged from the hospital.
"Duoduo! Grandpa is waiting for someone!" Sun Haoran gently stroked Qian Duoduo’s head, comforting her, "You don’t worry. Your Grandpa will be fine."
"Mmm." Qian Duoduo nodded and said, "But the doctor said the situation was very critical. My Grandpa needs surgery right away, but other diseases are preventing an immediate operation."
"I already know the diagnosis; now I am waiting for someone. If he says there’s a way, your Grandpa will definitely be fine," Sun Haoran said with a smile.
"Huh? Grandpa Sun, who are you waiting for?" Qian Duoduo asked, surprised.
"Well, a young divine doctor."
"A young divine doctor?" Qian Duoduo frowned, "Grandpa Sun, you can’t actually believe in that, right?"
"Haha, I have personally experienced his skills. Naturally, I have quite a bit of confidence in that young divine doctor," Sun Haoran laughed, "However, it is annoying that he is not here yet."
"Should Grandpa Sun call him to ask him?"
"Would that be appropriate?" Sun Haoran wondered, "I think it would be better if you go and pick him up. His name is Zhang Xian. He runs the Humanity Clinic on Sishui Street."
"Ah... Is it Zhang Xian?" Qian Duoduo’s eyes widened, "I...I sent him to the police station."
