Chapter 534: Chapter 534: The Laboratory in the Mountain_1

Yao Rao and Mo Shaoyun exchanged glances, then followed Zhang Xian inside.

Upon reaching Zhang Xian’s room, Yao Rao didn’t hesitate to enter, but Mo Shaoyun was a bit reluctant.

Zhang Xian asked with a frown, "What’s wrong? You’re afraid I’ll eat you up?"

"No... No..." Mo Shaoyun took a glance at Zhang Xian then entered the room with slightly knitted brows.

Zhang Xian sighed then closed the door, "Elder Sister Shaoyun, I know Elder Sister Yao Rao’s appearance may make you uncomfortable, but it’s my master’s idea. I hope you understand. As for Qingqing, Qianqian, and Elder Sister Meiting, if possible, I hope you can persuade them as well. I am leaving in a few days and don’t have the time to explain."

Mo Shaoyun asked, "Are you leaving again?"

Zhang Xian nodded, "Yes."

"Okay! I can understand you and also Elder Sister Yao Rao. I will persuade them." Mo Shaoyun nodded.

Zhang Xian was surprised that Mo Shaoyun agreed so easily. When did she become so agreeable? He had expected to have to persuade her at length.

Yao Rao chuckled and gave Zhang Xian a wink.

Zhang Xian cleared his throat and said with a smile, "Well then, I can rest assured."

Mo Shaoyun asked Zhang Xian, "Did you summon me here just for this matter?"

"There’s another matter." Zhang Xian smiled and turned to Yao Rao, "Elder Sister Yao Rao, aren’t you curious about why I, at such a young age, possess strength comparable to a Grandmaster?"

Yao Rao nodded, "Indeed. Your cultivation speed has far exceeded my imagination. If I hadn’t seen it for myself, I wouldn’t have believed it."

Zhang Xian chuckled and said, "Actually, my talent isn’t impressive. However, I’ve chosen a different path from you all. So, the Ancient Martial Arts Practitioners will never catch up, and our end goals are not the same."

Yao Rao asked with a puzzled look, "What do you mean?"

"Let me clarify it for you! You practice martial arts, while I cultivate the Immortal Law. But for now, I’m just a minor figure." Zhang Xian went on, "Soon, I’ll pass on my cultivation technique to you. With your solid foundation in martial arts, you’ll reach the Tier Six Celestial Body Refinement Realm quickly. While I’m away, I hope you can guide Elder Sister Shaoyun and others."

"I’ll give it a try!" Yao Rao agreed, although she didn’t fully understand.

Zhang Xian stepped forward and transferred his cultivation technique into Yao Rao’s mind.

After absorbing the information, Yao Rao looked at Zhang Xian, her face filled with surprise. She didn’t expect Zhang Xian’s cultivation technique to be so exceptional; no wonder he was so powerful.

The route Zhang Xian had taken was entirely different from that of Ancient Martial Arts. There was no comparison between the two.

"You’re already a master at the Peak Innate Realm and understand cultivation far better than Elder Sister Shaoyun and the others. From now on, I’m entrusting them to you." Zhang Xian said, "Of course, there’s a significant distinction between martial arts and cultivation. If you encounter anything you can’t figure out, don’t ponder it alone. Call me and clarify it before you proceed."

Yao Rao nodded, "I’ll try my best!"

"Good, you guys rest up first. I have to refine some pills. I’ll be leaving in a couple of days." Zhang Xian said.

Mo Shaoyun asked, "Where are you going?"

Zhang Xian replied, "You must remember the two guys who came here to find me. I plan to go with them and see if we can find any clues."

Mo Shaoyun asked, "Are you going alone?"

Zhang Xian rubbed his nose and asked, "Do you plan to accompany me if I don’t go alone?"

"I..." Mo Shaoyun pouted, "I don’t have that ability."

Zhang Xian placed his hand on Mo Shaoyun’s shoulder and said with a smile, "Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. Those guys can’t trouble me."

Mo Shaoyun let out a sigh and didn’t say anything more.

Even though she used to argue with Zhang Xian a lot, at least she was still with him and saw him every day. Recently, Zhang Xian was hardly at home. Even on those rare occasions when he was, she barely saw him. She knew that Zhang Xian was busy with many things and had to do them. However, she didn’t like this kind of life. Not at all.

Zhang Xian could tell that Mo Shaoyun was uncomfortable, but he didn’t comment on it. As a man, he wasn’t entitled to live comfortably for the time being.

"You go ahead!"

Yao Rao laughed, "I’ll keep an eye on things here. Anyone attempting to run amok in front of me had better be up to the task."

Zhang Xian smiled and left the room.

With power on par with the Peak Innate Realm, Yao Rao was a force nobody dared to provoke unless they were a Grandmaster Realm powerhouse. Whoever dared to provoke her would face nothing but defeat.

...

At the foot of an unnamed mountain within Longshan.

A commercial vehicle came from one direction and stopped at the mountain’s foot, after which several figures got out.

Zhang Xian scanned the area and said, "Your laboratory is quite unusual. Building it inside a mountain, it’s unexpected."

"Our research is very confidential, so we choose a hidden location." A middle-aged man answered, "If the results of our hard work were stolen, it would be a great loss for us. Therefore, to protect our findings, we had to situate our lab in this remote mountain."

"Mr. Zhang, please follow me," a woman standing beside him said with a smile.

Zhang Xian nodded and followed the woman’s pace.

Shortly after, a cave appeared in front of them. It looked like a large kiln cave, shaped like an arc. From the outside, the cave was pitch-black, and nothing could be seen.

Upon seeing this sight, he suddenly remembered Tao Jinbao. The research lab of that guy was very similar to the one before him.

"This is our research lab."

The path inside the cave led them downward, and about four or five minutes later, a metal door appeared in front of them, and the woman stopped and said.

"I’ll open the door."

The middle-aged man stepped forward and entered a series of numbers on the tiny keypad by the door.

"Boom...." The iron gate rolled up.

The woman gave a smile to Zhang Xian and said, "Please come in."

Zhang Xian nodded and without any hesitation walked in. His mind was on alert, scanning the surroundings continuously.

The man and the woman were somewhat surprised to see that Zhang Xian entered without any hesitation. However, they quickly smirked coldly. Once inside, Zhang Xian wouldn’t be able to call the shots anymore.

"This lab seems quite large" Zhang Xian said with a smile.

The middle-aged man responded, "Of course it is. How else can we conduct our research? There are over a hundred people working here."

"Let’s go!" The woman gave Zhang Xian a nudge.

Zhang Xian turned and asked the woman, "What do you mean? Why did you push me just now?"

"Haha....."

The middle-aged man laughed loudly and said, "We were polite to you outside, but in here, you have no say. Don’t be afraid; we’re telling you right now that you’re never leaving."

Feigning shock, Zhang Xian responded, "Just as I suspected. If only I hadn’t believed you."

"Who asked you to believe us?"

The middle-aged man chuckled and after pushing Zhang Xian, he roared: "Get in there quickly, or I’ll break your dog leg."

With a fearful look on his face, Zhang Xian quickly turned and went inside.

In a short while, he was pushed into a massive research lab by the middle-aged man. At that moment, several people were busy inside, all handling medicinal herbs.

"These guys are ruthless." Zhang Xian’s eyes swept across the room, a chill flashing across his gaze.

As his mind swept across, he noticed several disabled people, either missing a leg or an ear. Some even had both legs gone and were confined to wheelchairs. Seeing this, he didn’t believe for a moment that these traditional Chinese doctors had come in this way—it was probably due to their non-compliance with the rules here, leading these fiends to maim them.

"Go there and settle down. Ask others for what you should do," the middle-aged man pointed forward and said, "If you perform well, there would be something to eat. If not, you’ll be starved to death. Remember, don’t try to shirk your work. There will be an exam every ten days. If there’s no progress, you’re in big trouble."

Zhang Xian’s mouth twitched unnaturally a few times, and he walked over to an old man

"A newbie?" The old man glanced at Zhang Xian.

Zhang Xian replied, "Yes."

The old man paused for a moment and said, "You’re quite young. Nowadays, not many people learn traditional Chinese medicine. For someone of your age to be brought in, you must be somewhat famous, right?"

Zhang Xian asked, "Everyone brought in here is a famous Chinese medicine practitioner?"

"Not famous per se, but at least some ability," the old man said. "Without any talent, why would they bother bringing people here?"

Zhang Xian nodded and asked, "What are you doing here? And what should I do?"

"I’m investigating the properties of medicinal herbs," the old man said. "You can do the same. Just dig out all the effects of a medicinal herb."

Zhang Xian asked, "How long have you been here?"

"Three years." The old man said, shaking his head, "I got greedy and ended up here. I don’t know how my wife’s doing."

Zhang Xian smiled and said, "Don’t worry, we’ll get out. Trust me."

The old man shook his head, "It’s useless. We simply can’t get out with so many people guarding this place. Even though they don’t care if we’re working or not, we still have exams to pass. And if anyone tries to escape, they’ll break our legs. Haven’t you noticed the number of people with broken legs here?"

"Is that so?" Zhang Xian said. "If they don’t care about us, it might be a relief. I hate being watched."

"They don’t need to watch us," the old man replied. "If you don’t perform well, you won’t pass the exam. Then, you’ll incur their wrath."

"No worries, I can handle it."

Zhang Xian smiled and asked, "Old man, you’ve been here for three years. Have you noticed anything unusual? And, what exactly are they doing here?"

"Why are you asking this?" the old man queried.

Zhang Xian replied, "Just curious. If you know anything, please tell me. I promise not to leak anything."
